I’ve been getting curious about design. So much of my work up to now has been instinctive and intuitive. Instinct and intuition are great, but can be a little haphazard. So I’m feeling the need to bring some rigour into my processes, and to explore some Rules (so that I can break them, maybe. So satisfying.).
I don’t (yet) work with these rules upfront, preferring to let composition happen as the muse dictates. (An excuse for general slapdash artistic laziness, maybe.)
But I thought it would be interesting to look at collages I’ve already created, and see how two (of the many) "Design Rules” help me understand why a piece is a satisfying composition, or why it doesn’t work. See what you think.
