my name is patrick. yeah, i'm an old fart, but i don't fit in elsewhere, so i thought i might fit in here because this seems like a place where misfits are welcome. i have met some lovely people here and have found a sense of community. i'm old, but i'm up front and honest. ya, i'm queer too. so, there are probably lots of people that think that i must be sick to be on here, but i'm not some gross old lurker pretending to be a teenage girl to meet young guys, but i do enjoy meeting young people. i enjoy the energy of intellectual and interesting young people. i love to learn new things. i have often felt that i am a young mind trapped in an aging body. so if you think that any commie, pagan, freaky, wierdo, faggots should be welcome here, drop me a line. i am a druid/witch and an anarchist with socialist leanings. more accurately, i would have to call myself a bioregional anarchocommunist. also, i am a retired high school english teacher from a small rural high school and have often gotten into trouble for advocating the rights of my students over the administration and adults. as a result, i have always communicated better with young people than with adults. i hope i never have to become one (adult). i live with too many cats in a little cabin in the woods in northern alberta, canada. my cabin is on a farm that i share with my ex-wife. she's an amazing girl and, strangely enough, my closest friend. she's a brilliant artist, taxidermist, sculptor, painter, carver, horseman, saddle and harness maker, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera...,listener and confidant. she's my hero. this is a beautiful place to live, if you can ignore the rednecks and fundy xtians and the fact that the nearest bookstore is a seven hour drive. thank all the gods and goddesses for amazon.com. actually, i'm recovering from a serious amazon addiction and only have a few relapses any given month.

laughter, friends, bagpipes, anchovies on pizza, the sound of poplar leaves in the breeze, cats (i live with 6 of them), good beer, curried lamb, dandelions (the fresh blossoms are tasty), sushi, the smell of the woods following a rain, moose steak, the simpsons, jamesons irish whiskey, honest up front people who are not judgemental of others, movies that scare the shit out of me, puppy breath, cbc radio, venison, and fireflies, wow, magick. i listen to shortwave radio and tune in the world. being an omnivorous reader, i read a lot. hp lovecraft, neil gaiman, aleister crowley, lord dunsany, robert e howard, morgan llywelyn, douglas adams, dark and weird stories, classical, medieval and renaissance literature, romantic poetry (no, not love poetry, but poetry from the romantic period, like blake, byron, shelley, wordsworth and the rest), historical fiction, mythology, arthurian literature, occult, mystical, gaian, and radical political stuff, like john zerzan, kropotkin, bookchin, green anarchy, lenin, mao and the like. lately, i've really been enjoying hakim bey. brilliant stuff! i'm also a big doctor who fan. i got hooked almost 30 years ago in england and have been a fanatic ever since. i love smoking pot. i'm an old hippy, ya know. oh, and good black hash. i enjoy the company of young men who are more interested in intellect and personality than age and looks. i have been a student of the occult for many years and, over the years, i've learned many things.
Dislikes:
bigots (age and race), homophobes, sexists,, bush&co., government control in general, pizza without anchovies, canada's fascist government, haters, wind (except whilst sailing), jerks, closed-minded people, lima beans, liars and thieves, commercial radio, people who don't take responsibility for their own actions and people who don't like cats. i dislike people who abuse animals, children, women or anyone for that matter. abusers in general.......... people and corporations and governments who believe that the earth is a consumable commodity are also BIG on my hit list. also, that minority of premium members that are agist, bigoted assholes, who see fit to firebomb me for no good reason and haven't the balls to tell me why. why is it that some premium members come with a 'premium' attitude?
Favorite Music:
i'm an old head banger and like thrashy loud deep music. i grew up on led zeppelin, the doors, iron butterfly, black sabbath, the beatles and the stones among a lot of other great music. my musical taste is rather ecclectic actually, from the sex pistols to italian opera, classical, celtic rock and traditional and anything that sounds groovy. i'm pleased to have grown up during a period of incredible music, the 70's, and to have had opportunities to enjoy all kinds of music. in newer tunes i like marilyn manson, nirvana, the pogues, nine inch nails, waylander and most music with things to say and loud thrashy sounds. i'm interested in learning about more pagan themed metal. perhaps someone here can help with that.
