When I was about twelve years old, I made a very important decision in my life to not believe in a higher source. Personally, I despise religion much more than I do the idea of a God/gods. I feel that people who put all of their faith in something or someone else have some kind of problem with their own self-confidence, but religion itself causes far more problems than just belief in a divine presence. And although I personally do not believe in God whatsoever, I am aware that other people have their own views and it's not my place to convince them otherwise. I believe that God has not created man, but man has created God. If man did not create God, who did? He is fabricated to answer questions that cannot be answered otherwise. My mom tells me all the time that having faith makes life easier. Yeah, maybe to her, but to me it sounds like religion is being used to deny your responsibilities for your own actions. How is the world run? How is everything you know made by? Rules. Equations. Properties. What's the equation for God? Everything in the world that we know and can prove has a formula. [ex. A+B=C]. 'God' has no rule. The way to disprove God is simple. You can't prove it. It's as simple as that. You can prove gravity. You can prove HIV and cancer. You can even prove love. But there is no way you can prove God. Why waste your life believing in something that is non-existent? No offense towards people that choose to believe in a higher source, but I do not, and never again will. "Straightedge" "It's funny how the cool thing to do these days is to do nothing cool." Not really, but it illustrates the point well.
Straightedge is pathetic.
I, among most people, don't need such a thing as straightedge in my life. It's pathetic and worthless to me.
Even worse are those who've never drank or done drugs, but for some reason believe they fully understand its effects. No, when you do drugs you aren't immediately addicted. No, when you drink alcohol you don't automatically jump in a car or get into a fight, or even hurt yourself in any way. And then there's straightedge punk and hardcore kids, who draw X's on their hands so everyone can see their choice. I believe in abortion and stem cell research, but do I write that all over myself to show everyone? No. I answer honestly WHEN SOMEONE ASKS ME. That means THEY ARE INTERESTED. And if you have to wear such a lifestyle so hard for everyone to see, then you probably aren't comfortable in your own skin. The majority of the so-called "straightedge" kids WILL break the edge sooner or later. Some call it "treachery"; most call it "growing up". People can't be expected to keep an opinion forever that they made when they were fourteen. If you don't like drugs and alcohol, then DON'T DO THEM. That's all you should have to do.
And as a closing note, it is unlogical for anyone under legal drinking age to call them self straightedge. Because that is just simply FOLLOWING THE LAW.
