 MUBO A.K.A MUTANT BOY! ok 1 if you could say something to those record company poser cock munching scumbags what would it be? -Why the fuck do you have to ruin everything thats good? ...isnt that the reason you signed them!!!?? Shiny toy Guns is a perfect example, their debut album that they put out was fucking AMAZING! ... it was simply PERFECT! ...then they get signed by a major label, redo the record and it BLOWS, sure they got a motorola commercial out of it, a spot on david letterman, etc, etc .. but fuck! ...at what price??? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  2 what was it like to work with dsa and how did it make youwrite such kick ass music? - well, DSA was started by dearborn, but formed by the both of us, i was the one who found the dro, and dreggs, dearborn found cyggy and completed the line up ... it was that spirit of starting from the ground up that i think helped the spirit of of DSA ... - as far as writing goes, it was the 1st time i was NOT in complete control, and was the 1st time i was dealing with a band situation that was guitar based (rather than synth based with some guitar)... so i needed to think outside my normal routine quite a bit ...luckily the things that gave me my reputation on the synths all stayed in tact...it's what drew dearborn to me in first place! dearborns a great fucking guitarist and song writer, we fed off of each other very well, we took each other to musical places the other would never have thought of..or gone to alone....  A STILL FROM THE SET OF THE SEND ME AN ANGEL VIDEO  OLD DSA GROUP PHOTO  DSA TODAY ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3 whats your favorite bands?and when do you listen to this music? - wow favorite bands, thats a tough one .. i like different bands for different reasons, i their mean music is always the main reason i listen to any band, but image, technicality, live shows all play into what makes a band my FAV. short list: new wave stuff - Devo -Kraftwerk- yaz- early depeche mode - early duran - flock of seagulls - gary numan - oingo boingo industrial stuff - skinny puppy / frontline assembly / front 242 / early synth based ministry -- all the typical stuff of late 80's early 90's  as a synth player i listen to everything and everyone ... from the carpenters to spice girls - disco and yes, even britney ... i love freestyle old skool music ... and especially old 80's break dance music.. songs with robot voice fucking RULE! - as far as when i listen to music ... usually when im driving or programming / designing on the computer ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 How's the new music project going? -The VDN is going very slowly .. but it's getting there ... not having a permanent place to live and no official studio set up is making any creation at all almost impossible! but people seem to really be diggin the stuff that im doing... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5 whats your inspiration for your music? -same as it's always been ... emotion, sounds and just playing whats in my head, i dont plan to play anything, dont sit down and say "today im gonna write a heavy song....or today im gonna write a song with alot of percussion" ... i just play what i feel ... i love melody, i love intertwining different sequences into a single melody, so that when you pick it apart with your ears and separate them, you hear the song in a whole new way. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6 what pisses you off when it comes to fans?/people? - i have been pretty lucky to not be swampped by by fans that cause drama .. sure there have been a few, but for the most part, i would get the fans that actually respect, understand, and truly appreciate what i do as a musician/artist ... i will take that over the "omg you are so hot" fans any day! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7 who do you hate the most? - my answer a few years ago would have been TRENT REZNOR ... but he did an interview that changed my opinion of him, he admitted he was given far too much credit than what he deserved, and that there were plenty of others that deserved it more, cuz THEY were the pioneers..not him ... i thought that was pretty fucking cool of him to say, and it changed my outlook on him. so now - i will say Curt Cobain, ppl will argue with me, but it's my opinion, far too much credit was given to that fucking guy .. give it a rest, i think he sucked! oh yea..and eddie vedder...mainly just cuz i think he's a dick .. i would love to beat his ass, just like i did to the drummer of godsmack! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8 what kind of music do you despise the most?/annoy's you? - Shit like alicia keys and celine dion , latin pop .. gimme a fucking break!!! all that kinda "singer" shit annoys the hell out of me! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9 What do you enjoy from your music? -the interaction of man and machine, i like getting the sounds and melodies out of my head and have others feel them the way i did when they were trapped inside. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 What inspired you to become a musician? - i was born this way, i have tried to stop playing many times, and it never works! i think what inspired me to be in a band was performing ..theres nothing like it, i dont care if it's 10 ppl or 1,000 people, i feel the same when im on stage, and the audience gets the same performance! - i think DEVO & Kraftwerk were my biggest influences as far as bands inspiring me to be in a band ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11 If you could bring back someone from the dead who would it be,and why? - hmmm... RAYMOND SCOTT, this guy was a fucking genius! he invented his own instruments back in the 40's - 50's ..was the 1st to use electronic music in advertising .. kept his instruments hidden from the world in fear of people stealing them and his ideas .. guy was a mad man! .. an amazing musician and inventor! i would bring him back so we could hang out in his lab and plot to rule the world! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12. Is it true you invent some of your own instruments? -Yea, i do! -- i have invented some pretty cool shit, the TRAUMALO ... the Mubotron ... the optisynth and my latest creation is a LASER BEAM MIDI CONTROLLER .. break a beam and it plays a note on one of my synths! im currently working on getting vids, sound sample, downloads posted on my Mubotics Myspace Page .... you can keep up to date with all my electronic insanity there...it's up now, not much content is posted yet, but its getting there! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 13 What do you see in the future of V.D.N? - well the Virus Distribution Netwerk (VDN) was a project i had started while still in DSA .. it was to be a collaborative project that would allow me to work with fans / song writers / other musicians over the internet ... but after getting the boot from DSA, i decided to let it be my new outlet, and if i happen to have a guest artist here and there ..thats cool too so the future for this project is still in creation ... i would like to get enough songs finished to get a live band together and go out and tour ... that line up may change from time to time, im not sure yet .. BUT if the project is popular enough, i will do what we did with DSA, find a LIVE line up and then do a 2nd album with them as collaborative partners.  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 14. So .. is the stage name Fr3d3r1k 404 OR Mubo?? - well, there has been much debate over that one, i wanted to change my name after getting booted from DSA cuz i wanted a fresh start... a whole new project, a whole new identity ... BUT the fans didnt let that happen ... so MUBO (short for Mutant Boy) .. didnt die after all!..  |
