Hey you guys whats up?
Tell me a little bit about how you guys all formed together, i mean were you all like neighborhood friends, or school buddies? No, definately not. I've been active in the underground for around 15 years by now. Gorath has always been a one man band until I finally got persuaded to play live with this band. Three guys from relatively known bands (Panchrysia, Suhrim and Leng Tch'E) joined the line up. Apart from the gutiarist I don't live close to the others, but I know them through underground activities from the past.
Q: Well you guys are from, Hasselt, Belgium, do you guys hope to maybe come do a tour over here in the United states?
A: Our guitarist was playing for Aborted when they did their European tour and his other band Leng Tch'E played on Maryland Death Fest. I guess he would totally like an American tour. But eventhough we exist for more than 10 years, our very first live gig is set for the last date of March. We're doing a few gigs to play in some European countries. We cancelled a possible tour with Taake and one with Vreid. The next release definately will be promoted though a small (European) tour. An American tour would be welcome ofcourse. Our first label was from New York, most items of the first CD are spread in the States.
Q: "The Fifth Birth" is my favorite song, does "Dupont" do all the lyric writing or do all you guys write bits and pieces and give ideas?
A: Yes, I write all lyrics, music and play everything myself. Only the clean vocals on this song are done by Peter from Thurisaz. they will play in the States with Novembers Doom the coming months. The other guys from Gorath are solely live musicians. Though the next album will have real drums.
Q: When you guys first came out with "A winter slavery" did you think that might have been a stop to the whole band idea?
A: Back then I played in a death metal band and wanted to do someting else. There wasn't proper recording software and thanks to my old Atari computer I managed to record some songs. After that demo Gorath was put onto ice for quite some years...
Q: You guys have five cd's out right now, can the fans be exspecting another one for "2007"?
A: We only have 2 full length albums out. The last one, entitled "The Fourth Era" is from October 2006. I hope to have a new one out even this year. The music and lyrics are already written.
Q: You guys seem pretty underground, do you hope to maybe become a major record deal band and tour all over the world?
A: No, definatelt not. I'm no rockstar. With Gorath's black metal you cannot be that big to tour all over the world. And I'm not into concessions getting more mainstream for cash and snow.
Q: Has it always been black metal for you guys?
A: No. I'm openminded when it somes to extreme music. At least it has to be musical in some way. Here's a list of my favorite bands lately: Watain, Gojira, Melechesh, Secrets Of The Moon, Deathspell Omega, Orphaned Land, Enslaved, Sigh and many more. The other guys are also into all different kind of extreme metal.
Q: I love alot of european bands, is there any band inperticullar you guys would love to do a show with ?
A: Secrets Of The Moon or Melechesh, because both their latest album is an example for many to follow. Pure quality.
Q: I see you guys have a couple of shows coming up, what is it like when your infront of tons of fans?
A: Gorath has never played before. But last summer my other band Theudho had a 6 hour drive to Berlin to play on a pagan fest. It's always nice to see people being interested in your music. I like the fact you're mostly meeting new people quite same minded. Though I'm still waiting for some groupies to trow their bras in front of me. Perhaps when we come to the States? :)
Q: I ask this to all the bands that get an interview from me, whats your guys favorite thing to do after a show?
A: For me that's having a beer and talking with other people or watching other bands. Nothing special in particular.
{Well thats all for the interview guys I hope you enjoyed!. }
