SM: Hey you guys hows it going?
EA: Super, thanks for asking!
SM: Lets kick this interview off with telling us a little bit of how you guys all came about?
EA: The band was first comprised by Matt, myself (Erik), and a bassist that we got rid of shortly after. Back then we were actually called Third Seal, and were writing cosiderably different music. It was still very melodic stuff, but very thrashy 80's metal; a lot like Megadeth, Metallica, and Pantera. We had many gothic and black metal elements too in the early material. Well, anyway, we started getting more into Metalcore around then, and when Josh entered the band, we wrote Eye of the Storm, which was the turning point of our new sound (around this time we were calling the band Mindseye). Obviously, we needed a vocalist, so that's where Andrew came in. He was actually a childhood friend of Matt's, yet we were not aware of his interest in metal until we happened upon him at Ozzfest '06. Shortly thereafter, he joined the band, and introduced us to Lorenzo, our bassist, and the rest is history.
SM: When you guys had your first show, what was it like? Were you guys nervous, excited?
EA: All of the above and more. I still to this day cannot remember being up there.
SM: Was it always about playing metal, hardcore?
EA: I think it was always about making music that we enjoyed, and metal just happens to encompass many of our musical interests. We're also really big into classical, gothic, techno, industrial, and ambient, so expect to see many of these elements in our up-and-coming new releases. Obviously, we do fit into a genre, but we don't liked to be totally confined by one. We want to explore all facets of music.
SM: Now, after seeing you guys live, which was kick ass, you guys really do give one hell of a live performance. Do you guys plan to do some touring this summer? Maybe tour out of the U.S.?
EA: Haha, well it's very kind of ou to say. We just like to have fun up there. Uhh, tour? Hard for me to say. As of right now, we severly lack the funds to even think about a tour, but this summer? Next year? It's always a possibilty.
SM: Your song “Revolution” is my favorite, does Andrew do all the writing, or do all of you guys add bits and pieces to the lyrics?
EA: Actually, most of our lyrical content is done by Matt. He excells at finding words that flow brilliantly with a song. Of course, we all make a contribution to a piece from time to time, but for the majority, Matt does the writing.
SM: What bands would you guys say have influenced you the most?
EA: Oh god, that's a tough question. I can't speak for everyone in the band, but this should suffice: Metallica, Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Avenged Sevenfold, As I Lay Dying, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Tool, Sevendust, All That Remains, Lamb of God, and the list goes on....
SM: With the way the music scene is now a days, where do you guys see yourself in the next five years?
EA: Hopefully still just playing music.
SM: So is there a new album coming out that the fans can look forward too?
EA: Yes, our first album should be out sometime in the summer. July Perhaps? Don't quote me...
SM: After you guys were featured in Lotus magazine, did you get as much feed back as you were hoping to?
EA: (hehe, that wasn't real =)
SM: Has any other magazine company come forward and ask you, you know “hey we want you featured in our magazine what do you say”?…hopefully you guys will be in Metal Edge soon.
EA: Metal Edge? Soon? Haha, we're not expecting anything that extravegant anytime soon, if ever. We're just doing our thing and having fun. If a magazine company happens to want to feature us, even better!
SM: I ask this to all the bands that fall victim to my interviews “haha”… but what is your guys favorite thing to do after a show?
EA: Anything that involves beer and food.
SM: What show have you guys played that you think has been your best performance yet?
EA: Asking me? I'm never too fond with any of my performances, but if I had to choose... Hayloft with Red Eye Flight... maybe.
SM: Well guys that’s the end of this mess, and hopefully ill be able to make it out to your show on the 10th which I’m sure will be a kick ass !!!
