Character Name: Ren
Appearing Age: 20's
Actual Age: 1000+
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Straight
Weapon: Often a dagger, generally Ren uses her tail
History/Past: Ren's been the leader of the mermaids for a long, long time. Long before the 'Houses' were formed and species joined together in harmony. With mermaid's tendencies to have bad memories, many of those she meets when she steps upon land is like new to her, but if you leave a big enough imprint she will remember someone vividly - Those she only truly remembers are her loyal follower's for which she loves each and all of them. Ren's father was the king, and without him baring a son the title was sadly passed to Ren - Her father thought she would make a mockery of the kingdom, but she surpassed him and became a great leader and protector of her "family".
Ren's home is in deep crevice's under water, and whilst it isn't like Little Mermaid, the crevices oddly form rooms and moss gathered to create 'furniture'. Human's rarely see this, since other Merfolk scare them off - thereby proving legend's are true.
Personality: Ren is a polite mermaid, always listening to her follower's when they need her yet being an authoritarian when something is a threat or displeases her greatly. Fishing is her joy, almost as much as swimming where she feel's much more graceful than when on land.
It's rare for the beauty to step on land, preferring the comfort's of water than the brittle air that she always seems to come across, but when she does the female seems confused - She has been here many many times but with a poor memory that all mermaid's have, she doesn't remember.

Character Name: Sacha Yevgenia
Appearing Age: Early twenties
Actual Age: Nine-hundred and fourty-three
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Straight
Weapon: Small daggers
History/Past: Sacha was born into a lower class of the Merfolk, daughter of a Mermaid as well as a Fallen Angel, making her a disgrace to their kind. Her mother tried to keep her a secret from the rest of her kind but it was to no avail. Sacha was taken from her mother when she was only a few days old and her mother was forced to flee, leaving Sacha to never know either of her parents. When the Merfolk were trying to find a way to rid them of Sacha, the Queen of the Merfolk learned of the child and welcomed her with open arms. The King was not pleased with his wife’s decision to take her in but he didn’t question her about it, refusing to have anything to do with Sacha.
Sacha grew up under the Queen’s wing, thinking of the older woman as her mother and never knowing any better. She didn’t understand why everyone in the kingdom refused to look at her or why some would leave a room if she were to enter it but eventually came to the assumption that it was because she was the daughter of the King and Queen. Some had tried to tell her that her life was a lie, that she wasn’t really a part of the Merfolk family but whenever she questioned the Queen about it she was told that such thoughts were nonsense.
As Sacha grew older she tried to make friends with the other Merfolk but their coldness to her never faltered. She did anything that was asked of her, even if it was belittling to her in attempts to please everyone. There were some who would use her for their own gain but Sacha continued to do as they asked since they were the closest things she had to a friend. When they grew bored of her or had no more use of her they dropped her like a rock and left Sacha feeling empty again.
It wasn’t until the Queen was dying that she was told the truth about her real mother and why everyone looked down at her. Sacha felt betrayed by the only person she had ever truly trusted but couldn’t bring herself to hate the Queen because of how kind to her she had been.
When word spread about the Queen’s death, Sacha knew that her time in the kingdom was running out since there wasn’t anyone who liked her; she could either leave then or wait to be banished like others before her had been. She made plans to leave the Merfolk kingdom to see the rest of Mezzanotte, maybe even make friends with someone of a different realm, but before she could leave the King had summoned her.
Sacha had worked hard to gain the King’s approval during the previous ears but he had never paid attention to her, only having received compliments from the Queen. The summoning was the first time the King had ever spoken to her and Sacha was afraid of how things would turn out even though she knew what was coming.
But to Sacha’s surprise, the King didn’t banish her. Instead, he mentioned how the Queen had done nothing but speak highly of the child, had begged and pleaded for him to give her a chance. His last promise to the Queen was to do as she had asked and give Sacha a chance, to welcome and treat her like she was his own blood. As the King spent time with her and got to know her he realized that she wasn’t the abomination he and everyone else had thought her to be, and in an attempt to make everything up to her made her his second-in-command.
The kingdom didn’t handle her becoming second-in-command very well; most of the Merfolk refused to follow her or respect her but Sacha didn’t reprimand anyone for it.
When the King became ill and asked Sacha if she was ready to take over the kingdom permanently she refused as politely as she could, asking the King to find someone else to rule to kingdom. She stayed as second-in-command but as the King grows closer to his passing, the search for a new leader has become more urgent. The few who were able to lead refused for the simple fact that they would have to rule with Sacha.
Personality: Sacha is usually calm and collected, thinking about everything that goes on in her daily life; when among the other Merfolk she is quiet and keep to herself, often being a wallflower. Not too many know a lot about Sachaonly because most refuse to overlook what her mother had done; she's never gotten over the years of being used and hurt, but she still lets herself be pushed around, a habit she's never been able to overcome.
