Hi everyone! Just to let you all know that I'm off to Oslo, Norway tomorrow. I'm going to an industrial music festival called KOMA.
It's going to be my first time in Norway so I'm really excited. The line-up is pretty cool too. Sadly two of the bands: Unter Null and Tactical Sekt had to cancel but that won't stop me from enjoying the festival.
Anyway, this means that I'm going to be offline for a few days, from tomorrow until Sunday.
See you when I get back!
Now before I start I just want to mention that... I've just finished writing a long, official, full report on this for Valkyrian Music so I'm sure as fuck not going to write that much on here. What I will say is the following:
Sauna Open Air is a local, Tampere based metal festival held every year since 2004. This year I managed to obtain a press pass granting me free access for the full two days. Sadly this was limited to only one pass per media meaning that my plus one, my husband had to pay 50€ for a one day ticket. He also wanted to see Sabaton who played on the Sunday sadly he simply couldn't justify forking out another 50€ just to see one band.
Fantastic performances by Children of Bodom, Finntroll and oddly enough Nightwish. Finntroll look funny in their costumes but they sure know how to get a mosh-pit going. Nightwish sounds so much better with Floor Jansen as their lead singer. She's great, a really talented singer with one hell of a stage presence. I really hope that she joins the band full time.
Sunday
Hardcore Superstar were ok. Decent rock music which reminded me of Guns'n'Roses. Sabaton never disappoint. It's not the first time that I've seen them and I can guarantee that it won't be the last either. It's just a shame that my husband couldn't be there. Luckily he was able to hear some of it by standing just outside of the stadium.
Overall it was a fun two days worth of festival. It's just a shame that I couldn't get two press passes but such is life.

J4son-V00rhees, no sign of DJ Farm Chicken sadly. I'm guessing that he's more into electronica than metal. I'll keep an an eye out for him at KOMA festival.
Doh Why is that chicken so distant from his fans? If he is not there, you got to go to Farm fest, also playing farm fest is the Death metal Chicken, Death metal Cat and Death metal Camel
So from industrial to some folk metal! One of the nice things about the Finnish summer is that there's lots of metal festivals. Not just the big ones either... Pelmurock is a one-day, free rock and metal festival taking place in Pirkkala, a small town just outside of Tampere but within short driving distance. I only found out about this event a few days ago and it was not until I discovered that Korpiklaani were playing that my husband and I decided to go.
Being an all day event it started in the early evening and lasted until the early hours of the morning. The entrance to event was free of charge and there was no age limit; I saw some families with young children in there too. There was a catch though, entrance to the bar area cost 5€ and there was drinks and food available from the stalls. Since we arrived by car, alcohol was off limits. We only ended up seeing two of the bands as they looked the most interesting out of the line-up, most of which consisted of local indie rock bands.
Cowerpoint
As the name suggests, this was a cover band. They played an interesting range of metal and rock covers. Some of them were very catchy and really agitated the crowds. The most memorable ones include: Dio's 'Holy Diver', AC/DC's 'Highway to Hell', Twisted Sister's 'We're Not Gonna Take It', 'I wanna be somebody' (with the female singer performing the lead vocals), 'Over The Hills and Far Away' and Manowar's 'Hail and Kill'. They managed to get the audience to sing along to some of the songs. Definitely a good way to start the night and a very fitting warm-up act for Korpiklaani.
Korpiklaani
By the time these guys came on it was already past midnight. Both my husband I have seen them live before but that was many years ago and they have gone through several line-up changes since. At first they played lots of songs from the newest album 'Manala' which I'm not too familiar with. Luckily the latter half of their set consisted of older songs including some of the party hits such as the instrumental 'Pellonpekko', 'Beer Beer', 'Wooden Pints', 'Vodka' and a cover of 'Juodaan Viinaa'. The Korpiklaani mosh-pit is quite a unique sight – there's something special about watching groups of drunken metalheads doing humppa (a Finnish variant of the polka folk dance) and ripaska moves whils head-banging! I stayed clear of the mosh pit but joined in with some of the dancing.
Overall it was a good night. We had fun even without the beer. This kind of metal reminds that summer is here and the festival season is now in full swing.
You may have noticed I'm getting back into the swing of VF, I've been putting a lot of work into a cult I've been in for years and its starting to pay off, the activity in the cult is definitely starting to increase.
Also I've been doing quite good on my summer body efforts. I've curbed my fat and calorie intake by quite a bit and I've started adding more exercise into my day. I now always take the stairs in work and I'm on the third floor, so that's up and down the stairs at least 4 times a day, I've been lifting weights and I've been doing bicycle crunches which I'm really liking.
I'm going to start throwing in some push ups and sit ups too, but I'll need to be careful with the push ups as in recent months my wrists have been getting very sore and stiff.
Wow I'm barely active now. I'm getting back into the swing of things though. Thought I'd give you an update
Me and my boyfriend don't work in the same place anymore which is great, we were just arguing as we were literally seeing each other every single day constantly and it was getting too much. So I'm a lot happier about it now.
I've finally got a holiday booked for the summer, there was quite a bit of drama about it as we were originally booked to go somewhere else and then I found out its a dump and just incredibly chavvy. But we're going to benalmedena in Spain for a week and I can't wait .
My birthdays been and gone I'm not 29, no longer a teenager and I'm hating it, I'm gonna try and be more social and go out more, I'm still young and I wanna make the most of it!
Three 21 is just like any other year. Only up side I can legally buy alcohol.
Four living in Mesa, AZ.
Five I thankfully had some luck and found someone in my life that has shown me that I am not a fuck npo and that I can live without him being with me..

Fatal Passion Lyrics (check it out in my reVerbnation page
I feel the Passion that you bring, I felt the torment from with in.
I know it's reality it seems so clear.
It's all a great tragedy with reality.
A new beginning to our fears.
A Fatal Passion
Our Fatal Passion
Your Fatal Passion
Who will Die
Will I Die
Will you Die
Will We die?
You seemed to try my patience wearing thin
I know you think that I will give
confronted by our greed
Love is long gone now that is reality
a final chapter coming clear
a fatal passion
our fatal passion
your fatal passion
Who will Die
Will I Die
Will you Die
Will We die?
We become a moral tale
we have suffered long enough together now
it all seems to be so clear
life is one big tragedy that is reality
we lost our trust and now we are done
one fatal passion
our fatal passion
your fatal passion
Who will Die
Will I Die
Will you Die
Will We die?
well one last thing in my mind
why can't things work out so well
there is no way to prepare for this
life is one travesty that is reality
one fatal passion
our fatal passion passion
your fatal passion
my fatal passion
Who will Die
Will I Die
Will you Die
Will We die?

An industrial gig right here in Tampere? Hell, yes!! Some of you may not be aware of this but industrial gigs are a rarity in Finland. The scene is small and, unlike the metal one which attracts a much bigger audience resulting in lots of gigs and festivals held each year, most industrial bands don't tour Finland. Sure there's a handful of small caliber events such as the gothic industrial Lumous festival (see journal entry about this here: http://vampirefreaks.com/journal/forestspirit99?pg=2)
but even these are rare and the chances of seeing any major industrial artists in these are remote.
So imagine my joy when I found out that Aesthetic Perfection were coming to town. I've seen them live once before when they supported Combichrist. That was a few years ago back when I was living as a student in the U.K. Anyway, that's another story all together which I'm not going to go into now...
For those that don't know, my husband is a die-hard metalhead who doesn't like industrial at all. Needless to say he wasn't interested in the gig, so we had a little deal: he went to an ice-hockey match with his friends whilst I'm at the gig. Win-win!
I got to meet the singer Daniel Graves before the show and he signed my copy of their debut album.
Old School Union
There was supposed to be a different band supporting Aesthetic Perfection. According to my ticket they are called Machine Park but they had to cancel for some reason so these guys played instead. It was an interesting performance. Their music was a weird mix of EBM with punk style vocals. It took me a while to get my head round their stuff, but I enjoyed it towards the end. Their last song 'Perkele' was funny. With lyrics like “Sauna, vittu/sisu, perkele!” for those who know Finnish it's easy to see why the crowd liked it.
Aesthetic Perfection
There was a longish interval before these guys came on. During that time the DJs played some industrial and gothic tunes that woke up the dance-floor. By the time these guys came on, Laterna, a small restaurant venue, was packed to the extent that it was difficult to even see the artists on the stage. Daniel Graves and co. put on a great show. They played all the hits including: 'The Great Depression', 'Inhuman', 'Spit Out', 'The Devil's In The Details' and 'The Ones'. They even came back for an encore and played two more tracks.
The rest of the night I spent dancing along to some of my favorite industrial songs. I can't thank the Synapsi DJs (Hilarion and Snowdrop) enough for playing Combichrist, Grendel and Suicide Commando. I haven't danced this much since Infest back in the summer! It was a really good night and I'm so happy that there is an industrial scene here in Finland. Hopefully there will be more shows like this in the future.

I only found out about this gig a few days ago. Basically my husband discovered that there was a metal gig featuring some local bands playing a mix of thrash and death metal. For once the gig was on a Friday which is a plus since this way there's the rest of the weekend to recover. So we decided to check it out.
Decibel Hammer
This thrash metal trio was a replacement for a band called Hateform who had to cancel due to sickness. I don't know much about them and at this stage of the night there wasn't too many people around. Their performance was decent, not bad as far as thrash metal goes. The only thing is that I couldn't take them seriously due to the main guitar player's ridiculous outfit. White shorts aren't normally something you would normally associate with metal gigs...
Axegressor
By the time these guys came on stage, the crowds had started to gather. These guys really knew how to agitate a mosh-pit. Their performance was energetic and fun to watch. I even started head-banging along towards the end.
Torture Killer
This was my favorite performance of the night. There's something special about this type of death metal. Torture Killer have this groove metal element to their sound which reminds me a little of Cannibal Corpse. This band really got my attention and I don't think I was the only one who enjoyed their set. It was difficult to stay out of the mosh-pit which had by then encompassed most of the audience.
All and all it was a good night. I didn't know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the performances. It just shows how good the metal scene is here in Finland that even a handful of local bands can create something memorable.
