In my years here I've either been a victim of, or have witnessed juvenile insults. What I mean by that is, there are some "bullies" out there that have absolutely no skills when it comes to flaming someone. The following is a list of crap that myself, or others have endured whilst on this site.
1. Music: This is probably the most common thing to get picked on for. I recently got ridiculed for the music in the music player on my profile. It is just beyond stupid to attack someone for liking music. I do not take it as a personal attack, I do find it to be very immature. I listen to all sorts of metal. I also like rap/hip-hop, classic rock, pop rock, etc. I listen to Prince, Michael Jackson, Motley Crue, Metallica, ICP, Twiztid, Oasis, Pink Floyd, Rammstein, Cannibal Corpse, Faith No More, Tech N9ne...the list goes on.
I am not about to apologise to ANYONE for what I listen to. If you don't like a band that I do, piss off because I really don't give a fuck about what you do or do not like. And to anyone that takes it as a personal attack when someone disses a band you like, grow a pair and get over it.
2. Clothing/appearance: On Vampirefreaks, there are a few personal styles that stand out. Whether it be synthetic dreads/hair falls, Tripp pants, cyber goggles, clown makeup, corpse paint, spikes and leather, they're all apparently up for ridicule. I've seen insults towards those who wear synth dreads and accessories being called "tube heads". Then there are those Juggalo/Juggalettes that get shit on for wearing clown make-up and just liking ICP in general. Emos/scene kids probably get the worst of it. "Get off of VF you preppy fuck" is something I've read numerous times on VF.
There are also purists on here, that believe VF should only be for goths/rivetheads only. If Vampirefreaks only had those types, it would not be the site it is today. It would be extremely boring.
I personally haven't really had problems with insults about what I wear since I was in high school.
3. Age: On more than one occasion on VF, I've been told I'm too old to be on here. Maybe we should just let 14 year olds become admins on here and we'll all be better off right? Vampirefreaks is for anyone 13 and older. Don't like seeing 30 year olds on here?
Then maybe Jet should delete himself since he is older than I am. 
4. Ratings: I've got a journal entry on this. If you give someone less than a 10 on here, expect to get berated with all sorts of childish crap.
5. Being an admin: Speaking from obvious personal experience, being an admin makes me a target for some really fucked up attacks. I've had people go as far as making insults about my wife (Mahl). When deleting/suspending, or even asking someone to provide a salute I open myself up for potential attacks from butthurt losers. You people know nothing about me or my personal life so its quite futile to take personal shots at me.
My top 5 may differ from another person's list, but I'm sure many would agree with any one of those things. Feel free to express your opinions. I'd love to read about what others have been attacked for on here

I just love the hypocrites personally. I think everyone who has ever tried to attack me always ends up doing this on some level.
I really liked that one line on that guys profile last night something like "I report people to the vf Admin a lot, so if you don't follow the rules expect to get reported" and he's sitting there making multiples because you deleted his shared account with his friend who made a fake profile of himself who ended up being a fake and making signs about how you "like cock." Ugh..it just makes you wanna smack your head on the wall and laugh at the same time.

That's so stupid. OMG, there is some guy in my year st school who is obsessed with all this Apple or MAC products, he buys broken ones, and fixes them, then sells them for like double/triple the price. Today marks 2 years of marital bliss for me and Mahl. The first year we were apart for about 8 months, due to living in different countries. Currently Mahl has been in Canada just over a year, and she will be stuck here with me forever.
I say, the only reasons to endure the frigid Canadian winters is either because you were born here, or you love someone.

Ratings. A joke to many, serious business to others. I started my VF e-life like most people, with my ratings on. I never whored myself out for them, as it was more of a fad than anything to me. After several weeks of being mildly active, I made it into the top of Top Rated boys. OMG right? A minute later someone gave me a 1 and knocked me down a few pages. I was more annoyed with the fact that the person didn't have the guts to tell me that they did it. I had no premium, so it was expected. After spending like 30 seconds feeling slightly annoyed, I laughed it off and just shut off my rates completely. Had I been premium, I really don't know how I'd react. Maybe I'd have just given a 1 in return.
Fast forward to today. Lots of things have happened in the VF world since. Negative rates being the most recent. From an admin standpoint...sigh.
On any given day in "complaint central" we're likely to find at least one report about someone being downrated. Some even come with screenshots which are absolutely pointless for us since we can see everything anyways
What amuses me and baffles me more than anything about rates is, how people react to them. I get downrated often, most often by people who are trying to get my attention and flexing their e-cocks trying to bully a site admin. People like this usually are creating problems for others and they get deleted/suspended. I'm no fun to downrate, because you won't really get a reaction out of me.
I can think of several premiums that react like its the end of the fucking world when they get anything less than a 10. Some even reset their rates. Others will send out broadcasts like, "this bitch downrated me, give them a 1 for me". Why the hell do people treat ratings like an extension of themself? If its not a perfect 10, oh noes the sky will fall and the world will just crumble and die.
Even more amusing are those who will give a 1 -3 rate back, for anything less than 10. Yes, that is correct. A 9 rate was given and a -3 returned...oh yeah, add on a powerbomb. Maybe a few other powerbombs and low rates from friends of that person whose feelings were so butthurt over that 9 rating (or lower).
Why do premiums bother to report being downrated when they can already do more damage by giving -3s and powerbombs? Oh, thats right, they want said "downrater" deleted so it removes the less than perfect rate, leaving a much better rate average. I cannot count the number of times I've flat out told people that I don't really care about what they got rated. People just need to learn to deal with it. When you get off your ass and step away from your computer, what good are those rates? Can you do your holiday shopping with them? No. Will people look at you like a hideous freak if your rate average on VF is 9.93? Most likely not. Hell, most people won't know what the fuck that means anyways.
Why are people on here so pissy and sensitive about the ratings? When Jet reduced ALL rates by 75%, I was not the slightest bit surprised that several of most rated guys/girls were angry with it. Even though some of them got VIP premium in lieu of the rates, they still complained. If I wasn't an admin, but was most rated and got VIP premium because of it, I'd be happier than a pig in shit. But hey, thats just me.
I know many people will agree with this journal. Other will think I'm specifically targetting them. Believe me, no one is special enough for me to target them anywhere. This is just a generic rant from an admin perpective. If you feel that I'm targetting you, feel free to say so. I could use a laugh.

well said Matt, well said. I used to give a shit about my rates simply for my own amusement on seeing how long I can stay on top rated boys, but after a while it got pretty old and boring. It just wasn't fun anymore once you've beaten the system! Taking a short leave from VF and now being back; it's not a day until I log into check my rates and see that I've been down rated by numerous people who shall remain nameless. What's funny is that these people I know for a fact only care about their rates and popularity on here and although they have absolutely NO problem handing out -3s and 1's like it's going out of style they decide to block their page from the person/persons that down rate so they can't be rated back! I have always been one to rate back what I've been rated. I mean why play the "I'm better than you" game? There is no point. Anyway, I couldn't agree more with what you said and way to stick it to em'! Peace Brother!I love you. You're my only reason to stay alive... if that's what I am.

Drama. Life on Vampirefreaks just doesn’t seem complete without it. What do I know of drama? Well being a site admin I get to deal with all sorts of shit. Over the years, I’ve learned how to diffuse situations. I have also learned how to make an e-bully legitimately angry. Does that make me a bully? That is up to interpretation I suppose.
Almost everyday, I see a report like, “Can you please help me? This person is calling me names and its pissing me off.” Hell, I even more frequently I see, “This person down rated me without giving me a reason as to why.” These people come to site admins, because they don’t know how else to deal with their problems.
“Add them to your blocked list.” I find myself saying quite often. Seems the people reporting can actually be just as big of an asshole as the person they are reporting. I’m sorry, but if you don’t have the common sense to cease commenting someone that harasses you, you deserve the barrage of insults thrown at you. Sounds brash, sure but why should I help someone that cannot help themselves?
Then you have those premiums. Be careful, they can see you view them and they know what you rate them. Give them anything less than a 10, and you can be sure of one or two things. Either they’ll give you a 1 back and bitch you out for sullying their oh so important rate average, or, they’ll piss and moan to admins to have the person deleted so they can have that stain removed from their list of perfect 10s. Admittedly, many times I have told people, “oh well” or, “deal with it.” I truly have more important things to deal with on VF. If, however you feel that someone is down rating multiple members then mention that so I or other admins may investigate. By the way, no I cannot remove a bad rate from your ratings. You’ll just have to cope with it or reset your ratings completely.
More recently Jet implemented picture and journal props. Add on the ability for premiums to give ratings and props lower than 1. Oh the drama. Jet, you’re an asshole but I really admire that about you. You would not believe the number of premiums I’ve found giving out -3 rates to pretty much any free account they come in contact with.
Now, people like me, my wife Mahl, and Jet actually find the drama amusing. Hell, Jet wouldn’t introduce negative rates and props if he didn’t. Others out there on VF like to create their own drama for various reasons. Some do it for the lulz. Others do it because in real life, they haven’t got the balls to do so. Then I’m sure some members do it because they are assholes in general. Most I would call e-bullies.
These e-bullies seem to be selective of who they attack. Some people are easy targets. I’ve started shit with people before, who state they are anti-Goth or hate Vampirefreaks for whatever reason. I’m not Goth, but I don’t think you should trash them if you’re on a site with “gothic” in its sub title.
Enough talk about my drama starting ways. For this article, I’m more interested in the behaviour of those who seem to prey on the weak minded, or those who do not have the vocabulary or an excellent command of the English language to defend themselves. Some even stoop so low as to make fun of a person’s general appearance or musical preference.
To someone like me, such insults and attacks don’t bother me on a personal level, not even in the slightest. I’ve had my name dragged through the dirt many times, and I’ve also had my musical interests and physical appearance mocked. I’m a 30 year old man, so school yard bullshit doesn’t work on me. You want to have an e-war of words with me, I’m game.
But how does the timid, weak minded member defend them self? Often they report to us, and actually block the person harassing them. Others will make a futile attempt to defend themselves and in the process, getting hurt more. Many times I have seen this, and it really irritates me that there are members out there who find it necessary to do this to others. Does it help inflate your egos to berate 13 year old girls with weight issues? What about making fun of someone who is albino perhaps? What do these e-bullies get out of treating people like shit? You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve come across a person calling someone else fat, when they are fat themselves.
My advice to anyone online that is dealing with such childishness is to ignore the person(s) harassing you. Block them, and report them. If you decide to continuously comment your bullies, it just adds fuel to the fire. Bullies thrive off of your responses, so I kindly suggest you shut the fuck up and not converse with these people. Also, some people think that if you block them or shit list them, that they’ve “won”. It seems to feed their egos more for some reason. It’s really sick and pathetic, but it’s true. Ignoring them is the best defense I assure you. Give them nothing to use against you and hopefully, they’ll leave you alone.
If you are having issues like this in a cult, and have multiple people harassing you, just leave the cult. If you own or moderate the cult, ban those who are bothering you. If you think someone is making bogus accounts to enter your cult, report them to admins.
I do hope this journal was informative and helpful. It may not be helpful at the moment, but you could use these tips down the road when you encounter problems. Just remember, there is always help available when you need it, so don’t be afraid to ask.
I would also like to thank those who had so many kind words to say in my last journal. I feel bad that I cannot get back to everyone. I have read everything, I just can’t respond to everyone with all the admin stuff that occupies my time.

I have heard talk of the old days when people actually rated how they felt and averages were around 8ish. I wish people would do that now, I want to be rated as to how they seem to like what I have to say or my likes or something rather than oh your premium I must rate 10 if rate at all. So when the time came to renew my premium I didn't I don't care what you rate, and now I can't even see how you rate.
There are always ways around situations, for christs sake its the internet, you don't like being bullied take the measures in place or, and this is a thought, log off? If one must base their life on internet exchanges (especially positive reactions) the life is not one worth living.

“I’d love to be a site admin,” I once said to an administrator on Vampirefreaks, some 3 or 4 years ago. Not long after, I was asked by the big man himself if I would be interested in helping out. “It’s on a volunteer basis, so there is no pay” I was told. I didn’t care, I wanted this nifty title and I wouldn’t let a minor thing like no money stop me from taking this opportunity. Besides, I know Jet was a small business owner and most of the money he earned pretty much went towards maintaining the site and supporting his family. I respected that.
That was back in April 2006. I had been a member nearly 2 years by that point. What was I getting myself into? Keep reading.
Imagine logging into Vampirefreaks. You notice you have inbox messages. You click on that link and you see a message from a friend. Perhaps you see a message from a Turkish perv saying, “I have wepcam bby show me boobs”. That is for the average VF user. For an admin, our inbox is full of…well it’s pretty much a mixed bag of things.
I woke up this morning to an inbox message saying, “UR A FUCKING PUSSY.” Oh, whatever did the big bad admin do to deserve this? A few days prior, I warned a member that he had 5 minutes to remove a background from his profile, or I’d do it myself. I got sidetracked, and it was 15 minutes later that I checked back to see the same nasty background with two naked lesbians smoking weed on his profile. I removed the image and gave a minor suspension. The first thing he did when he got back from suspension was sending me that message, and sent out a bulletin stating the same sentiment.
Most often, I just like to deal with problems quietly. I should have just removed that image myself, and gave the suspension. But no, I thought I’d be polite, and it backfired as usual. Why do I bother?
This is just a tiny example of what I go through on an almost daily basis on this site.
When I first got the admin title, I was just given a few messages about administrator controls, and how to use them. I was also told about the Admin inbox which is basically complaint central for VF. I could tell when I came in as site staff, that Jet was in dire need of extra help. I checked this admin inbox to find about 5 pages of reports. I was never popular enough before to even know what 5 pages of messages looked like so I was mildly overwhelmed. Reports ranging from “dude has a pic of his dick on his pro” to “zomg I got downrated by so and so, delete them.” Seeing this downrate being a 9, I knew this admin thing was going to really test my sanity.
My first day as admin was done, and I made sure that admin box was nice and clear before going to bed. A pat on the shoulder or a thank you would have been nice, but no such luck. Next day comes; I log into VF and check that admin inbox. Eight pages? What? This cannot be right. After an hour or so, I cleared all these messages. Hurray for redundant messages. Just when I think I can take a break, more shit comes in. It really never ends. An empty inbox for an hour or so is like the calm before the storm.
Why was I putting myself through all this with no money involved? Basically, at the time I was a stay at home father with really nothing else to do. I was unemployed, and had just finished college. I had way too much time on my hands so why not use it to help this relatively small website?
Day in, day out, without fail I’d log in and do more than my fair share to help deal with complaints, and general questions about how the site is run. You would not believe how often I see the message, “How do I delete my profile?” Fucking seriously? You can find that option in 2 places on Vampirefreaks. I never respond in such a way, I am more polite than that, even if they don’t like VF enough to stay.
I cannot leave out the ass kissers and enemies that I’ve encountered since day 1. There are some people out there, who watch the page of active admins religiously to see if there is any fresh meat on there. As soon as I got onto that page, I started getting viewed more. I noticed some of VF’s biggest drama starters and wannabe admins in my views. It made me a bit nervous, thinking I was being watched. But whatever, I moved on and did my job.
Additionally, at that time anyone that was a site admin was an automatic enemy to the message boards. I had almost never gone there, so I wasn’t too bothered by this fact. I mean, they are people I don’t know. Why should I care? All the attention kind of inflated my ego to be honest. Never before have I been treated this way before. I liked it.
I got constant friend adds, rates, and people bugging me for my messenger IDs. I felt like a celebrity in the social networking scene. I did not let this get in the way of doing what I was asked to do though, so I continued to tackle those complaints/questions for the most part, on my own.
It kind of seems like I was a one man wrecking crew, and that no other admins did anything at all. This was not the case. I found that for the most part, I was dealing with reports before the others could see them. I got annoyed when another admin would deal with something that I was about to do. Hell, I still sometimes get annoyed with that.
When the admin inbox is empty, what is left to do on VF for an admin? For me I usually look for things to deal with. View newest pics, I see big hairy balls…DELETE. Check newest guys and see an account “adminsucksdick”…DELETE. If that is a total bust though, I go through pending bands. Everyone knows about band profiles on Vampirefreaks, but not many know that each band profile has to be individually approved by a site admin. Of the current band profiles you see on here, I’ve probably approved 75% of them. It could be more though, I don’t have exact numbers. I have rejected thousands of band profiles also. Accounts that have no music uploaded after 7 days get rejected. Anyone that uploads songs that are not their own also gets rejected. If your music sucks, well, I approve it. I am not a music critic so getting an approval on here doesn’t mean you’re awesome. Getting approved simply means, you had enough brain cells to figure out how to upload a working MP3. I joke, of course. I’m not that much of an asshole.
With all the drama, and all the constant abuse I endure, why do I continue to be consistent with my work as an admin? I love the punishment.
In all seriousness, what keeps me going is the occasional, “thank you” or “omg you’re awesome” comments I get from people who are grateful for me taking the time to help them.
I do also enjoy the verbal abuse I get on here though, as it provides much lulz for me. I take no offence, to anything said to me. Someone once told me they fucked my mom. She had been dead over a year, so I called him a necrophiliac. I loved my mom, but even she would laugh at that.
Being an admin, you have to have a sense of humour or you will not last. Add in responsibility and self-control, and you could be a great admin. There is nothing worse than a power tripping person with a vendetta. I never let any drama I have with others affect my judgment. People have feared arguing with me because they did not want to be deleted or suspended. I am on speaking terms with some of VF’s biggest assholes and misfits. Many of which I’ve deleted/suspended in the past, but they still come to me for help. I’d like to think people view me as fair and unbiased but fact is people who think that are part of a small minority.
All the time I’ve put into this site, and I still got pissed on for being a featured member recently. According to that person, admins do nothing. Others think the same way I’m sure. If they only knew what I’ve gone through to get where I am, they would change their opinions I’m sure. Maybe this article will change opinions. Maybe it was a complete and utter waste of my time. Maybe it was a waste of your time reading it.

So for sometime now, I get complimented as being, "one of the few admins that actually takes the time to help" or "...that does anything". Mahl gets noted for being helpful as well.
