I actually found out the reason for this a while ago. Animals like crocodiles have the ability to grow new teeth because they already have tiny ones underneath waiting for the other one to leave so it can grow. Once that tiny tooth grows and comes up to fill the slot, another one starts growing to repeat the process. The only reason people can't do this, is because those animals have stem cells that chill out there until they need to make a new tooth, and people don't get that because our bodies have become too specialized; it is something that's being looked into though
