[Petition] Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group. [View & Sign]
This petition was brought on by the statement that the Westboro Baptist Church were planning to picket the funerals of the 20 elementary students in small town Connecticut, and give reasons as to why these children "deserved" to die the way they did. Thus having NO respect for the grieving parents, sisters, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and more. This is a mournful time for people around the country, hurting for what is considered the second greatest death rate in a school shooting. The first was in a college, this was in an elementary school. Please do not allow these people filled with hate to push accusations and insults at the people who lost something that day that they will never get back.
This group has been recognized as a hate group by organizations, such as The Southern Poverty Law Center, and has repeatedly displayed the actions typical of hate groups.
Their actions have been directed at many groups, including homosexuals, military, Jewish people and even other Christians. They pose a threat to the welfare and treatment of others and will not improve without some form of imposed regulation.
I got some family in The Patriot Guard I will be calling, they are a Biker group that guards funerals; usually against this nutbar hate/supremecy group from Topeka,KS.
I've thought this group was the worst bunch of bigots hiding behind a "religious" flag that I have ever heard of or seen, and I'm glad this is happening. I'm not surprised that the petition goal is already met.
WTF?!?!?! These "people" have absolutely NO RESPECT!!!! These young children lost not only their lives, but their chances of becoming something great in their futures. And all these so called "religious" pukes can say for it is that these CHILDREN deserved it?!?!?! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?!?!?!
When I die show no pity
Send my soul to juggalo city
Dig my grave six feet deep
Put two matches at my feet
Put two hatchets on my chest
And tell my homies I did my best
I didn't create the petition, and while it is not a legal term, a petition is not a legal not allowed It is just a document allowing congress to see the amount of interest in resolving an issue, this will allow for them to review and discuss, then they may request a formally written document if it will be going to the next step of review.
Typically, this will not spark the interest of the government unless it reaches millions of signatures.
I can see how the two you mentioned are connected. While we know that their statements have no merit, they are saying it to people who are mourning over children. Most of these people are parents. To lose a child is one of the hardest things any good parent could experience. These parents have lost something that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Their concentration is on their children right now so I do not think that many of these parents are going to handle such cruel words.
If my son was murdered at this shooting, and the WBC came to tell me that my child deserved to die...It would be very difficult to handle myself.
I think that if the WBC does go to picket, that there will be more violence because of how sensitive of an issue this in. Even criminals have a code of conduct. Criminals who have harmed the elderly or children are normally placed in a separate place in the prison since it frequently happens that these individuals will be harmed or killed by other inmates. This has further escalated to news that the KKK is in support against the WBC due to their announcement of picketing the funerals for the children.
I actually meant to thumbs down this.
There are ALL kinds of "hate groups." There are pro-nazi groups, there are racist, horrible people that like to congregate in the streets and be assholes. That is their right. Just as it's the right of Occupy Wallstreet, and all the pro-gay, and anti-rape, groups to do the same thing.
If they don't physically hurt anyone else, or target an individual person, they have broken no law. Why do we, and our beliefs, get to dictate what another group says? We are not a Christian nation, but does that mean Christians, including the crazy ones shouldn't be heard?
They should be allowed to have their protests, and we should be allowed to protest their protests. In democracy, people should always be able to express their opinions, because if you want free speech, it has to be free for everyone.
I find the Phelps family and the WBC morally reprehensible. I think they're awful, and if they all died, I definitely wouldn't shed a tear, but I want them, and everyone else, to have the same rights I do.
According to Immanuel Kant's Metaphysics of Morals, we should behave under the belief that anything we do becomes universal moral law. If I oppress the WBC, would I want to be equally silenced and oppressed? OF course not.
I leave you with this, they find us, and what we have to say to be just as awful as we find what they have to say. In the grander scheme of things, they're just a bunch of assholes that want to be heard, and aren't we all? If you want to be heard, you have to let other people be heard. Even if you disagree with them.
