MONSTERS ON TOUR, US PART 2: st. pete / tampa, FLORIDA
THIS SHOW HAPPENED ON: june 2, 2011
got up pretty early today and had a mission to complete. a very dear friend of mine who was a pretty well known tattoo artist in the tampa community, as well as by many of my better known musician peers world wide, had sadly passed away suddenly almost a year ago. his name was FRANKIE D. when i was in GENITORTURERS and lived down here, i was struggling with sobriety at the time and frankie took me under his wing and helped me keep my head straight. we became close friends while i was living down here, and visited one another as frequently as i could roll through on tour. frankie is responsible for the spider tattoo on my right hand, which is probably the tattoo that i get the most compliments on. he opened his very own tattoo shop up a couple of years ago right around the corner from janus landing, , which has been kept a float in his honor by his father, his girlfriend jana, and some really great artists from the area. i showed up around noon and had a girl named clare tattoo frankie's trademark logo and a heart right next to the spider tattoo he did on my hand, in remembrance of a great friend and all that he'd done for me. thank you jana lee, clare, and everyone at FRANKIE D tattoos in st. pete florida. go get tattooed there and tell em i sent ya and make jana or clare send me a smiley face text while your there. it'll be a greatly appreciated and unexpected reminder of my fallen homie, my brother from another mother, FRANKIE D. <3
invited everyone at the shop to the show at the state theater, and got my ass back to the venue for soundcheck. we rehearsed Sent to Destroy today. i won't hold my breathe to play the fucking song at the show or any others in the foreseeable future though. i have to hand it to andy for the level of diplomacy he runs HIS band with. keep in mind, the music is 100% him. he writes and records everything all by himself with limited input from the rest of us. he DOES however go out of his way to treat everyone as much of a member of the band as possible out on the road, and sometimes we just cannot agree on what goes into the set lists and such.... its just the way things turn out... we DO wind up playing that song every once in a while though. so if you're at a show and we rock it and you're happy about that, consider yourself one of the lucky ones....
on another note, a rather controversial survey has began to make its circle around the tour pertaining to my stage make-up. some people seem to be missing my full on black / white cookie face which i haven't done so much lately... well if you didn't already know the story about that particular make-up scheme, here it goes again..... last US tour i was in the midst of a WHITE phase. everything was white. except my eyeballs.... well one day we played in ithaca NY and while i was putting my make-up on i realized that i hadn't shaved in a while and it was past the point of being able to effectively cover my scruff up with white, and the only bathroom to use was inside the packed venue.... with 25 minutes till our show, i had to think quick. i recalled a make-up scheme that i had seen our buddy wes borland rock a couple of months earlier on LIMP BIZKIT's european run, and i just completely ripped it off for the show so i could cover up my facial hair. well not only did it work, but i got so many compliments on the make-up that the rest of the band suggested i start doing that from then on instead of the white..... well of course it rocked, wesley is the MASTER of disguises. i've become semi obsessed with his outfits as of late and had dragged so many ridiculous pictures of him dressed up as a woman or a post apocalyptic cowboy with no face onto my desktop that i had to make a goddamned WES folder to put them all in... gay, i know. but u know me, "yay 4 gay"... anyway, i let wes know i did it and wanted to continue to do it, he gave me his blessing, and i just kept doing it..... well with all due respect for everyone loving the make-up, its not mine and i just don't wanna do it anymore.... RAMBLE RAMBLE RAMBLE... so anyway i've been trying out a few different things since i've stopped, trying to ween off of it like a heroin addict does with methadone, , and it's sort of been all over the place... so everyone's decided to weigh in... feel free to do so below in comments as well.
VFIM was large and in charge today. people of the tampa area in florida, you are CRE-A-TIVE! i got alot of joey / unicorn art today! i love it all! also was blessed with some sort of limited edition things that look like i should sell on ebay, BUT I WON'T! pinkie promise.... and another mystical legend of a creature was in attendance today, known as none other than: OMEGA BLACK FACE THE DEATH DEALER!... bow to him, or he will eat your soul... and your cheerios.
after VFIM i had some time to kill and i finally got the green light on a full on unicorn rager in the front lounge. i had submitted the request on the second day of the tour to management, who had to clear things with andy and with the bus company, but it finally came to fruition TODAY! bobby hosted, and several of my dearest friends and VIP's dropped in for the festivities, including someone i grew up with and ruined and fixed my life with time and time again.... the person responsible for getting me hooked on gay 80's anthems: john motherfucking ciotti jr. also in attendance were FELIX and JOSH from my amazimg drum company DDRUM and clare and jana lee from FRANKIE D TATTOOS! what a great rager! some of my mystical and magical friends are sure to have some serious hang-overs and junk food bellies in the morning. it's okay babies... i will pamper you back to sunshine.
the show tonight was FUCKING FUN! it was one of my fav's of the whole tour. love playing on this stage, you really feel like you're in the same room as the crowd, which was PACKED! and the stage is more than big enough for us to fit on comfortably. i was extra fueled and proud about the fact that my family at DDRUM were in attendance to support the COMBI cause, and of course felt the urge to give them the best possible show that we could, and i feel that we did. mission accomplished. THANKS AGAIN FELIX, JOSH, DEAN, STEVE and EVERYONE AT www.ddrum.com for your endless support and for putting up with 6 years of destructive COMBICHRIST tours. :-D
no shower at this venue for some reason, the one downfall about it.... so just make-up wiped my gay ass and then headed out to the bus directly after the show to catch up with gen and hang with a few friends. once it was finally time to leave i was feelin saucy and i put like 16 snus pouches in my mouth and felt like i was gonna hurl so i made the driver pull over at a truck stop so i could buy some anti-hurling medicines.... playing at this SHIT BARN in the middle of nowhere in spartanburg tomorrow. i will begin the intense counseling session with my colon now so that she is 150% prepared not to poop for at least the next 32 hours.... yes that's right, my colon is a she... got a problem with that? well big bob didn't when i did my stint at NY state penitentiary a few years after vietnam.... just sayin....
ELEPHANT THONG! although im not quite sure how exactly will you fit them on your face(because the options were for your face right? ), guess i will just wait and see.
OR you could buy (or let people bring you) lots and lots of different kind of thongs, so there would be the moment of shocked surprise at the beginning of every show.
the b/w theme is good. ideas.. even if you do the eyes.. outline it in black.. finger width stripe.. or.. thong.. white face.. black thong/elephant.. OR... do the FL logo.. upside down cross.. white face.. center the cross... or do it on the side.. down the eye and half mouth black with other side going all the way to the side of your face... HAHA Bowie Bolt!! but yea.. I can keep going with ideas..
