FDA Approves Irradiation of Lettuce and Spinach

FDA Approves Irradiation of Lettuce and Spinach "The FDA said irradiation at the right doses isn't toxic and won't "significantly" change the nutritional value of the vegetables, though it may reduce certain vitamins. The technology has been used for years(since 1997) on ground beef, poultry, certain shellfish and spices. The agency said that while irradiation of spinach and iceberg lettuce produces furan, a cancer-causing chemical, the level isn't high enough to cause concern." Irradiated food bears the universal symbol for irradiation -- the radura, a plant in a green circle -- and a phrase such as "treated with irradiation. /br> Um, not cool.

Full Moon theory
|
August 16, 2008, 11:49:pm

|
It's a full moon tonight. The pathologists and cops at the medical examiners office always comment when there is a full moon because they tend to get busy. Of course they are just joking around about it, but I'm wondering if there might really be a pattern. The full moon has been a topic of superstition since the beginning of time. People seem to act strange and unusual things happen. I'm not a very superstitious person, but I do wonder why these things are associated with the full moon. Maybe there is actually some scientific explanation. Perhaps it has something to do with the gravitational force of the moon. After all, it affects the tides. Maybe it somehow effects the chemicals in out bodies and brains or it effects some people more than others because they have more of something. What do you think?

I got around to making some of my own skeleton flamingos. For all the flamingos you see in people's yards, it was extraordinarily difficult to actually find regular, kitchsy, pink flamingos at the store! I probably went to about 15 different places looking for them. I finally found some metal ones at a craft store, ON SALE. W00T. Here is how they came out: I wasn't really trying to make them very detailed and certainly not anatomically correct. I also made a couple cute bow barrettes: The tulle skirt is shaping up pretty good and I will hopefully get to do a photoshoot with it soon!
