I've always felt that as a feminist girly things repulse me. Like girly things are a result of what men would like women to be. However, I was at a dinner party with four other girlfriends the other night. One of the girls was mentioning this shit date she had where the gent was driving her around the area showing her all his old flats and hang out places. We were all like "what the fuck?" and then she said "well he was driving us around in his BMW", and I'm not fucking kidding, all of us went "ahhhh, right" at the same time. We all understood that it was more him wanting to show off his boring car that made him take her on that awful "date".

In a society where certain people think that "men should be men and women should be women" - despite the fact that men get to do fun stuff like run countries and have adventures and women have to do shit stuff like haves kids and clean- I think there is a camaraderie in being girly. I don't believe that all 'feminine' qualities are a result of men wanting us to be a certain way. I think equality in the sexes is very one sided, but being a girly girl is not all patriarchal bullshit.

You get bands like Motley Crue and the Rolling Stones who do the whole 'let's gender bend' thing but still thrash women for liking frivolous things like clothes or, god forbid, make up.... but at the very end we have that whole side down, and will understand on it so many more levels that they never will. And I mean beyond face value stuff.

I am drunk and must sleep.
