Motorcycle shtuffs.... whats your opinion?

so i got a motorcycle in the beginning of may (finally.. lol) and have my permit, but i need some incite. Do you think it would be better to just practice on my own and take the DMV roadtest OR should i pay $300 to take the safety driving classes? if i take the safety driving classes i get a discount on my insurance and i do not have to take the DMV roadtest, but it costs $300....... what do you think would be better?
