to put it quite simply;Christianity has nothing to do with my subculture as it is a music subculture for a specific genre of music and has nothing to do Christ. So what does it matter if you're a Christian or not and participating in the same subculture you claim to be in as I?Dark has nothing to do with Goth as the culture is defined by a specific genre of music derived of post-punk and having nothing to do with any genre of metal or Teutonic tribe, architecture or otherwise. It is a form of romanticised Post-punk that utilises the metaphors and philosophies behind the literature Gothic to express a disdain of post-modernism.I do not care about your mediocre excuses for poetry and God forbid "Art" as it is not art merely shite with no meaning put to it.

Retort to GothLoner on indivduality and subcultures

Yes and everybody else is also an an individual;labelling is merely how man communicates without proper labelling the Toaster is the steak knife and the Hand gun is the anti-aircraft weapon.Nothing changes that you are (insert name here).People join subcultures to belong not to be their own person(which they always shall be) and subcultures are everywhere and everyone participates in at least one no matter if one is a fan of football or if they are a bird watcher and that still does not change that they are Joe somebody or whatever other person they can be.So no matter the the clever word-play used you are just vehemently denying what you wish to be and no matter how you try you'll still be wrong.I mean look at your sn it states what you want to be and I'm merely showing you that you are wrong in what you either deny yet claim to be with word play or plainly admit.

Do keep in mind that you are a cyber but not Goth and that your identity will always superimpose that idea no matter what thus you Are Joe Somebody the "Goth"(as you seem to believe) but will not change is that you are Joe Somebody and no one else ever.

Idiots today!Have they missed the whole point to subculture? It is common fact that the subculture you are a part of has nothing to do who you are ultimately; You are still "(whatever your real name is)" whatever you do.That will not waver whatever you do be proud of who you are but do not be so quick to deny what you enjoy doing.

Industrial and Goth?
|
May 20, 2008, 09:35:am

Cat:They do share similarities in the manner at which they satirise the same thing only utilising different means to do so.Industrial is not a genre of music it is a type of experimentalist art that satirised post-modernism by directly embracing it out of mockery if you will. Whereas Goth is a Genre of music derived of post-punk and punk respectively that expresses its disdain of post-modernism via allegory and philosophical/literary prose most reflected in the Literature Gothic thus the name Goth is deemed to it whereas industrial does not make reflectance upon said literatures philosophies thus it is not Gothic. Thus both are similar in the fact that they both satirise post-modernism in their creation but they differ in the fact that one is a Genre of music and the other is considered a form of art that expresses its disdain of high-class western society with sounds and the antithesis of music.Besides industrial has been dead since Coil and all these hardhouse/synth-pop/EBM bands started calling themselves industrial.Gone are the days now when industrial was not a synonym for the DISCO

Brief Rozz Synopsis and wy valour fails to even remotely compare

Throughout most of his music especially "Only Theatre of Pain" I've noticed(or at least from what I've Perused of the lyrics) Rozz used most often references to the occult in a metaphorical fashion to show his generalised disdain of Mans slow degradation in to the depths of post-modern thought;as if he lay in remorse of it rather than per se a hate of God or of organised doctrine. Valour has merely used imagery he has no understanding of for shock value and capitalism;he is a great guitarist but he has no understanding to the whole back-bone of the idea behind Christian death; Not only does he deny the name Christian Death being a spoonerism for the Couture "Christian Dior" clothing brand he also delves into the iconography Rozz used to satirise things in a literal sense. Furthermore, I do not see any of Rozz's material Gothic in a direct sense either not only because of how multifaceted his talent was (Ranging from folk, blues, deathrock and spoken word) but because he stated many a time in interviews and commentary alike that he never wished to to be deemed Goth but more in the likes of a Lou Reed or Bowie. His works tend to be Goth not by surface level(sound) as is the case with all the carbon-copied bands in the vein of "The Sisters of Mercy" and "The Neph" but on the lyrical level to his songs and how they represent most the ideals and philosophies reflected within Gothic literature

FG:Individuality at least your ideals on it,are quite flawed.Individuality is not dictated by music or subcultural Identity it is dictated by your philosophical predispositions that you've had since birth. People join subcultures because they share similar interests in music or the arts etc. not to be individuals. How can one claim to be of a said subculture based off of music and not enjoy said music or have a preference for it?Cybers are not Goth because they do not have a preference for Gothic music over other genres;they enjoy ebm which is not even a part of the greater post-punk subculture that birthed oh so many subcultures of today and of yesteryear. Just because you have a preference for it though does not dictate one cannot listen to at least a few other genres of music;I may be Goth but I also enjoy Nat-King Cole or even worse Manilow?Does this change anything? For something to be deemed something properly it must follow some guidelines that dictate said label;for without proper labels we as humans could not communicate whatsoever and it would leave all of man at a permanent state of aphasia.Without proper communication man would not survive due to no boundaries being se for us to commune with one another thus making the apple the same as the electrical socket and the ebm identical to Goth and yet also making your values on individuality true. So FG;be you an ape or as the rest of us in this humble cult some sort of modern man?

another intriguing bit of dialectic on the Gothic movement

Actually it is for people who participate in the Gothic sub-culture(Gothic international);I do not see where you get this misconception that the Gothic sub-culture is about acceptance. If you read Gothic literature(I am not advocating these words or such) chronic racial slurs will come about including words like nigger(Lovecraft especially who was an anglo-racist with a severe pride for new-England[though the words were accepted at the time when he used them]) and others. So obviously if this is the Gothic culture of which you speak you are wrong on every level. The Gothic sub-culture has little if anything to do with the literature movement save by namesake and philosophy alone; The actual modern sub-culture is derived of a post-punk culture that preaches of a remorse for post-modern society rather then its brother punk which preaches of a hate and misanthropy of said mdern societal values. The writers in any case with whom you deem as Goth to prove your point valid were actually just average people who had a general disdain of the current values of the time and wrote of that disdain in a fictitious format.
