'Spoiled' brand nail polish April 15, 2012, 11:33:am
So, in a recent twist of events, I got curious about painting my nails again. I've been doing this for only a few months now, and it's the first time in over 5 years I have. Over the past few months, I've purchased a good 10 or so bottles of nail polish, of various brands.

War Paint cosmetics from Hot Topic, a few 'Confetti' brand from CVS (drug store here in the US, for anyone over the big pond), and a couple random ones. One brand that I'm now favouring is 'Spoiled' also from CVS.

The biggest difference between Spoiled and all the other brands is the brush itself. It's wider. When you go to apply a coat, the brush spread wide and in one stroke, you can easily cover your entire nail. At least I can, but I have small hands anyway. Coat 1 dries very quick so applying the second coat (you'll need it, read further) you wont have to wait long to do.

You do need at least 2 coats on each nails because one coat will have this look of 'dirty, stained nails'. You can see small areas that got more nail polish than others and the first coat appears thin that it makes your fingernail look like it has a dark stain on it. This same 'issue' rings true for 'Confetti' brand as well, but Confetti sometimes requires 3 coats. The few uses I've gotten out of Spoiled, 2 coats are more than enough.

The two shades I've got of Spoiled, one is a faded teal-and-green hue called "Good Karma". Dont wear this shade with red, it'll remind you instantly of Yule/Christmas. The other shade I recently bought is called "The Parking Meteor Expired" (yes, meteor). I LOVE this shade, as hunter green is one of my favourite colours, only this time it's shimmery. It reminds me of, and almost matches, a dress my mom made for me for Sophomore year homecoming. It's a dark, royal and shimmery shade that's an instant winner with my personal taste.

So, 'Spoiled' brand is a good one to consider if you want cheap, but decent, nail polish. It runs for $1.99 and doesnt chip easily. It tends to go at least two days before the tips of my nails start losing the nail polish and even then, you have to look real close. And if you dont pick at your nails (that's very hit or miss with me, as I fidget insanely), the colour will last close to a week, if not longer if you use a top coat (I dont).

As for colour choices, you've got a ton. Pale colours, glittery shades, darks and blinding neons. Everything from pastel blue and pink to black, silver, dark purple and beyond. And the colours will definitely grab you and so will some of the catchy colour names.

Proud Slut March 10, 2012, 03:22:pm
So according to Rush Limbaugh, women who practice birth control are sluts.

If that’s the case, then I’m proud of being a slut.

I’m proud of being a slut who, if she ever had a child, would love to raise it in the financial situation I’d feel would be ideal for me raising a kid.

I make 8.60 an hour. I’m not a mother so 8.60 permits me the ability to afford all my bills and still have money left to go grocery shopping and keep gas in my tank. Throw a baby into the mix and suddenly 8.60 requires my need for state-funded assistance via food stamps and medicaid. Maybe even HIDA.

If I had a child, in the most ideal situation possible, they would never have to wait for mommy’s bridge card to get refilled. They would never go hungry, albeit they might fuss over what mommy made for dinner.

If I had a child, I’d have my own insurance, that I pay into every month. The insurance that covers my child isnt funded by the state and I wouldnt have to worry about whether or not they got denied medical insurance, or if and when it’ll run out.

If I had a child, I could afford to buy them new clothes and school supplies. Without the state’s help.

If I had a child, it would be because I chose to have one. If I had a child, it would be at a time in my life where I could comfortably raise one. I dont feel comfortable bringing a child into this world where it would need to rely on state programs for it’s food, clothing and medical care because mommy cant afford to buy them after bills are paid.

So I’m a slut because I’m on a pill that enables me to decide when I have a child. Sure, I love sex, but I’m a slut because I’m preventing pregnancy by taking a daily pill and using condoms? Condoms are birth control too, so a woman is a slut for wanting to protect herself from STDs as well?

Makes no sense to me.

Yes, I’m a proud slut. I’m proud of the fact that I want to raise a child in a good, financially stable, environment, and not by state funded programs. I’m a slut because I dont want to rely on the state to provide care for my potential child.

I would rather have a kid when I know I could properly raise it, the way I want to, than turn my kid into another file at the Department of Human Services.

I'm still alive March 01, 2012, 08:39:pm
Hey there folks. I know I'm long overdue for a rant or two (or ten) but I wanted to let those curious know that I'm still alive and kicking.

Life's been busy!

For those who dont know, I found full-time work working at a day-program centre for mentally disabled adults. I get overtime every week because they've made me a van driver so my day starts at 8am and goes til 5pm every day. Loving the job and the financial stability is given me. It feels good to finally pay my bills, on time, and be able to feed myself on top of that. Keeping gas in my tank and still being able to treat myself.

Remember, I dont have any little ones so 8.60 an hour seems to go far for me. o.0

In other news, I had a health issue that reared it's potentially ugly head. Warning, TMI abounds.... I had to get a part of my cervix removed due to pre-cancerous cells appearing on said cervix. Last I heard, and it was from the hospital, was that they got everything and I should be worry-free. I wont know for sure until August, when I go in for a follow-up pap smear but from the looks of it, I'm problem free.

Life's taken a drastic change since late December til now but I'm feeling pretty damn good. My biggest concerns right now are ensuring my car remains drivable so I have to hold onto some money so I can afford a transmission fluid change on my car and a tie rod replacement. All in all... about 350 dollars worth, depending. So that's a few paychecks away but alas, quite doable.

I just dont want to sound like I'm taking this all for granted. I love this job and it's making me feel useful on a daily basis. I work with great people and it's FULL TIME! *dance*

Currently enjoying my single life as well. Doing my own thing with very few fucks given, if any.

My obession with the number 13 January 22, 2012, 08:04:pm
Is apparently well-founded:

Good ol' Wikipedia

I may need to design a tattoo that depicts "13" but it needs to be a bit abstract. =3

The Devil Inside [review] January 16, 2012, 06:17:pm
I'd been wanting to see this movie since I saw the preview and thanks to a friend, I finally have.

Now you're probably going to think "Great, another demonic possession movie. NEXT!" but allow me to elaborate on a few things that make this movie a bit different (and better) than what's been thrown in our faces as of late.

My first demonic possession flick (besides both versions of the Omen, but hey, that's the Antichrist) was the Exorcism of Emily Rose. I never saw "The Exorcist" so bear with my naivete. I found this to be a new delving into horror and the occult, without the stereotypical propaganda of Satanic cults and sacrifices. This was a movie about a girl whom doctors insisted she had epilepsy and psychosis. Yet, her body is contorting in ways a body shouldnt, she speaking foreign languages fluently, multiple voices... since when does someone having a seizure do that?

The special effects in Emily Rose werent over the top, but some effects were a bit emphasized for shock value. Regardless, I left that movie feeling pleased with what I saw.

Not so much for "The Last Exorcism". If you dont go into a serious situation taking it seriously, shit's going to happen. And sadly, that priest and his crew learned that lesson too late. My biggest gripe was the lack of research put into some of the flick. Watching the scene where they find 'cryptic occult images' on the walls, and seeing a Tiquetra painted there, irked me a little. For the record, that symbol was a representation of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Moving onward.... the effects at the end looked like they were half-assing what could've potentially been a good movie. And the ending itself was too abrupt. The twist at the end somewhat made up for that, but alas, I still find myself less than impressed.

And now, finally, The Devil Inside hits theatres. The background story is a woman, during an exorcism, murders three clergymen and calls 911 to turn herself in. That's where the movie starts.... a rather disturbing 911 recording that begins with "Three people...."

This movie takes little time sucking you in and it wont let go until the flick is over.

The movie revolves are Maria Rossi's daughter, Isabella, who hasnt seen her mother in years. After the murders, authorities carted her off to Italy to be left highly medicated in an asylum near the Vatican. Isabella, at one point in the movie, asked why they carted her to the Vatican if she was just mentally disturbed? They often hint in the movie that something's awry with the church's mannerisms.

While looking into her mother's health and history, Isabella tries to do some research while sitting in a class at the School of Exorcism and befriends two priests, one ordained in exorcisms and the other a pastor. Isabella visits her mother at the asylum and is left with little answers. Chilled and shaken from the encounter, she goes to the two priests for help. They explain to her that she'll never understand exorcisms unless she sits in on one and they take her to a house of a girl who's exorcism was denied by the Vatican. (Since when was Spiritual Salvation like applying for a home loan?)

Things start spiraling downwards for Isabella after witnessing the exorcism and it involves transference, which was a topic of discussion amongst the priests. The idea of an evil entity jumping from body to body was something they were debating they were dealing with.

Long story short, yes, they were dealing with transference and the movie ends rather abruptly but in a good way.

The events that lead up to the bone-chilling ending, you find yourself saying "Holy shit" over and over again. I personally couldnt take my eyes of the movie screen. The special effects werent over the top and there was no computer generated imagery for the actors depicting possession. I will say kudos to the director for emphasizing on contorted limbs with one Demoniac, as they make it a point to show (complete with sound effects) of a girl's shoulder popping out of socket, then back in.

There's not much in the way of blood, save for during the witnessed exorcism, the girl starts menstruating. Also, as the demon jumps from body to body, a hospital patient gets their throat ripped out while the Demoniac has a fit. Aside from that, there's no blood. There's no guts, no real gore.

The movie itself wasnt hard to sit through or watch but pay attention. Certain things happening in the background are more important than the conversation in the foreground and there's plenty of foreshadowing that occurs in conversation earlier in the movie. Things come together well and while the ending happens to suddenly, you're not left disappointed when you realize the pace of events had picked up and, quite nicely, lead up to the tail ending.

No movie gets a perfect 10 but I'm throwing a 9 at this flick. I wasnt disappointed, I found myself getting chills numerous times throughout the movie and hell, my enjoyment of the occult aside, they delved into concepts I hadnt seen in possession movies. So, definitely worth the watch.
