Star Trek May 16, 2013, 12:41:am
So, Watched it yesterday when we got it in. I'm really happy with it. A good reboot of the series is what we needed as fans (in my opinion, I know it's what I needed) and this sequel is amazing. Very aesthetic. It wasn't as dark as I wanted it to be, but I'm still very pleased with it.

Of corse, nobody reads this shit anyway, so I'll just keep these entries as reminders.

Ante up. April 26, 2013, 02:53:am
Managing a movie theater has its perks. Aside from the teenage, high school drama shit that comes with the employees that think a hangover is a good enough excuse not to come in to do nothing and get paid for it, watching free movies is the only reason I got this job, and it remains to be the only good thing about this place besides the free popcorn. (I bought shampoo and conditioner that were "infused" with coconut oil, realized that the reason my hair smells like popcorn is because we use coconut oil to pop our kernels). Point being made is that I get to see movies when we download the keys, which is usually two or three days before their release. This means that me and my friends wait till all the movies are out on wednesday night and get a theater to ourselves. Evil Dead came out recently.. I didn't watch it for a while for almost obvious reasons. Then I learn that Sam Reimi's car is in it. I'm intrigued, so I go and I watch it the other night with my co-manager Jonathan, who has watched it 7 times now and is the one person who got me to break and sit through it.

Fuck that shit.

I'm not here to say it was a bad movie. I'm saying it was A. TERRIBLE. FUCKING. REBOOT.

No Ash. Add Diablo Cody to screenwrite. Provide us with a mediocre cast and a tree-rape scene with no credentials. (You will not argue that they did the best they could with raping someone with an inanimate object. Regan was raped by a demon living inside of herself by a FUCKING CRUCIFIX. You can always do a better job with possessed fucking trees!). Voila. Shit.

Anyhoo... I have a bit of a massive gambling problem. If my car were up and running, I would be down in Blackhawk every sunday night getting into some pretty substantial debt. So since my car is a lovely piece of shit, I succumb to scratch tickets and small bets with friends. Due to the lack of greatness this film promised to deliver then proceeded to bash me over the head with nothing close to it for a full fucking 91 minutes, I gained something in return: A win. A whole $5.50 pack of cigarettes and a $2 rockstar. It's almost like someone actually paid me $7.50 to seriously consider buying a gun.

So in the end I suppose I win. Evil Dead got nothing from me, but I got lungs full of delicious smoke, intestines filled with whatever-the-fuck is in a rockstar and a mind to never watch a reboot of a classic horror movie I love.

Ken Park and Indi films August 07, 2012, 03:08:am
Don't ever watch a movie called Ken Park. It's not a bad movie, it's just not worth watching. I'll apologize in advance for this entry being as meaningless and plotless as the movie I just watched. I'm sorry. So, the point is, independent films have gone way downhill. Coming from the director of Bully, I assumed (wrongfully) that Ken Park would be interesting, thought provoking, and more or less something that I could relate my teenage years to. I was mistaken. It's pointless, plotless, and awkward (not in a good way either). I still have yet to watch Kids, but now that I've seen this, I'm not quite sure I want to. Even though it was refreshing to watch something that didn't have that "indi-diablo-cody" feel to it, the movie still bored the death out of me. It starts with a bang, and ends with a gang bang with nothing but bangin in the middle. If I wanted to watch that much teenage sex, I'd go to Penn State. Which leaves me to do nothing but build whoever reads this far a list of Indi films I find worth watching.

10. Party Monster.
Now that Macaulay Culkin has 6 months to live (says the Enquirer [most reliable news source aside from the Onion]), might as well indulge in something that isn't all grapes or booby traps. Fun for the average druggie, club kid, or Marilyn Manson fan, it's based off a book originally called Disco Bloodbath. Seth Green plays a major role alongside Macaulay Culkin and Marilyn Manson. Oh, and any fan of DJ Keoki wont be disappointed.

9. Sherrybaby.
Girl gets out of jail for stealing to support her heroin addiction, tries to get her shit straight and eventually tries to flee the state with her daughter in her boyfriend's car. Said boyfriend is Danny Trejo and girl is played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Awkward in a good way.

8. Red State.
Horror movie by Kevin Smith. Need I say more?

7. Drugstore Cowboy.
Better than Natural Born Killers.

6. Doom Generation.
Fucked up shit happens.

5. Bully.
Fucked up shit happens.

4. Havoc.
A really good fuckin movie. You get to see Anne Hathaway beat the fuck out of some chicks and then she shows her tits. Bijou Phillips is also in it. She's also in Bully. She gets naked in both films.

3. The Runaways.
Ok, not an indi flick, but as you see, not all of the ones on here can be construed as such. BUT, Scout-Taylor Compton is in it, along with Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart (don't think Twilight, think The Messengers).

2. Brick.
Joseph Gorden-Levitt is my all time favorite actor. You all know him from 500 days of Summer, Inception, 50/50 and 3rd Rock from the Sun, but he's also in many independent films such as Brick, The Lookout, Manic, Havoc, Picking up the Pieces and don't forget that one TV show that has become immortalized (no pun intended) due to Tim Burton and Johnny Depp (we're talkin about Dark Shadows). But Brick is by far the best. You think Diablo Cody has some savvy lingo? Check this shit out motherfuckers.

1. Wristcutters, a Love Story.
Sounds gay, I know. It's not. It's based in an afterlife for those that commit suicide. And it's got Patrick Fugit in it. It's my favorite.

Ones that I should have put on the list (but I made it a top 10 like an asshole) Life as a House, Saved!, Let The Right One In, Sleepers, The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lost in Translation, Hick, Dirty Girl, Dead Awake, Disturbing Behavior, Martyrs and Killing Zoe.
