Daddy and Natily

Her feet bounced over the soft dirt, her arms moving with the wind under her thin sleeves, face up turned to the bright sun. Her giggles filling the air as her father watched her from the porch. His eyes following her, a smile on his face. His features darken, but the same small smile lingers on his lips as the surrounding changes, her giggles echoing back into the recesses of his memory. Tears welled up in his eyes as he opens his mouth to speak. "Natily, my little girl. I can still see her running amoung the flowers in the meadow by our house. I remember how she would gather them up and give them to her mother when she was sick. She was such a kind, wonderful child." He ran his fingers over his mouth, looking out at his auidence which watched him with emotion felt eyes. "She was so strong when her mother, Geni, died... I think that's how she was near the end." His voice cracked with that sentence and tears flowed down his face. A few soft sobs accompany his before he clears his throat and continues. "She may of only been eight, but she was one of the most determined and brave people I had ever met. I know that she will have found her way to where she belongs now. I know at least now, she's safe. No one will hurt her again." He swallowed the tears and looked down at all of the people, watching the flickering candles held within hands. She would of loved to see it. He moved away from the podium to stand by his sister who squeezed his hand and looked at him with moist reassuring eyes. He held her hand and watched as the priest spoke, then as her casket was lowered into the ground. Sterling white against the dark depths. He felt suddenly weak, irrational thoughts hitting him. 'No! They are putting my little girl down there! She's not dead! Don't bury her! No!' He nearly crumpled under the weight of the pain. It took all he had not to fall to his knees and sob. "Goodbye Natily." He whispered and a sudden, soft breeze blew, sweeping around him. He looked up at the darkening sky and could see her again. He could see Natily smiling at him and running through the flowers. He watched her as tears ran freely, the sun shinging bright behind her. She stopped and faced him, raising her hand to wave at him. "Bye bye, daddy. Remember, daddy, bread and butter." She beamed at him and ran off towards the light of the sun. It's rays wrapping around her, turning her into a dark dot until she disappeared. The same thing he'd seen that night after she'd died. "We'll be apart only a little while." He mummered, his sister looking up at him. "What did you say, Robert?" She asked. He looked down at her with a smile, but all he saw was the light of the sun growing larger. It's warmth holding him tight. He closed his eyes and let out his breath, falling to the ground. When he opened his eyes again, he was with them. He was with Geni and Natily. Finally they were all together again. And this time it would have no painful ends. They had finally gotten their happy ending.
