The Philosophical Viewpoints Of The "Gothic" Sub-Culture.

Hello All,

In a world of "Just be happy" are there certain viewpoints that many of you share? I think it's true that fashion and music play a large role overall in the scene; however it seems many of us share sharp differences intellectually with the rest of the overall population. Personally I have observed a very strong open-mindedness, a culture largely open to discussion on mental illness, a general distaste of unhealthy drug use, and dealing with societal problems internally rather then lashing out in anger. These are just my opinions. Any thoughts?

A few years on VF will change your mind on some of those.

I understand completely what you are saying. Just trying to dig a little deeper I guess.

To be fair you have to have a high IQ to get the spongebob mock meme! Otherwise the fact that I am mocking you would go completely over your head! Bow down to my superier IQ! I'm so smart cause I watch Rick and Morty!

One of the reasons I signed up for VF, some ten or so years ago, was because I was under the impression that other people in the gothic subculture would be open minded, or be substantively different from 'the mainstream'.

I determined pretty quickly that's not the case, whatsoever.

If you're looking for anything other than good fashion sense and a decent taste in music, you won't find it, within the goth community.

The goth community in LA are little more than Barbies and Ken dolls who wear black.

I've always seen Goth as a good starting point to break off from the degenerate, mainstream culture. Goth is extremely tribalistic in nature. There is an attire, an attitude, a history, and even a music genre that stands as its foundations. Therefore, Goth groups can function as mini-societies inside the larger society. What would be better though, is if Goth groups were able to make themselves more autonomous, to cut off the mainstream culture and society completely.

I feel like goth sticks to a darker beauty that utilizes history as a reference. You have Victorian, industrial, modern, midevil. We will take our taste from different eras and bring them back.

Wow. I really thought that was something about me in particular. I never bothered to see if I was the only one getting down rated. Now I feel self centered.

It's a patience thing. When he goes all Alex Jones on us and regresses back to those asinine conspiracy stories and posts them before he checks them, I can't help but poke my finger into his ribs to let him know I'm disappointed.

Yes. See, I am a father and it's my responsibility to get a child ready for the real world and adulthood, so, whenever I see other children acting dangerously or doing something that'll harm themselves or others, I feel compelled to intervene. It's parental instinct.

I am really patient with your climatology ideas, because there is some aspects of climate change that are still being debated, and I'll cut you some slack regarding it, because there is a bunch of misinformation out there, a lot based off of sound scientific study around natural cycles (that assume we don't have 200 years of human industrialisation) that seem to contradict the current consensus understanding. It can be confusing. I will gladly listen to your woes and fears about immigration, people with legitimate gripes have a right to a voice and the debate is a mixed bag, unfortunately based in emotions and unfounded fears. I accept your ideas of gun ownership and general conservative ideals, because I come from a conservative, gun owning family and I'd be lying if I said that experience doesn't influence me. But when you post the tinfoil hat shit, the Alex Jones roadkill quasi-journalistic, bottom feeding rubbish like that false flag, school shootings are hoaxes rubbish or the white nationalist, "our government brings in brown people to destroy the white majority" stupidness, I lose my patience.

You can call it attention getting, you can call it trolling or you can call eating magical rainbow farts, it don't matter, I'm going to make sure you know you didn't use that superior IQ of yours and you didn't check your facts or really any common sense that you claim you have.

You stop being dumb and ill leave you alone. If you don't like it, you know how to block people.

Everyone is different in their own way. Just because you are into a subculture it doesnt mean your a nice person. There are jerks in every place, but I've found that people are usually people everywhere with their good and bad. Some people are generally idiots overall, no matter what and you can't do anything about it.

When it comes to the goth scene my impression is both yes and no. But I can be introverted to some people. And the goth scene isnt that big over here.

Open-mindedness has to come from within. I think you find close minded people just about anywhere. A part of it is human nature, but prejudice can wither away when you talk to people.
