The Mirror - Garden
NoWealthNoRuin HK's Territory
A grand courtyard within a hotel on the inside of the border between the territories. It's been taken and retaken so many times that not even the family heads know who originally laid claim to it.

Sh looked up at him in surprise, watching the way he cooked the food before watching his face. "..you've been trying to figure out the best way? You've..honestly been considering letting me go?"

"I have. Is that such a surprise?" He asked, glancing up to her once again as he brushed his hair out of his face with the back of his hand. It stubbornly fell back into place. "I didn't intend on keeping you here forever. And we both know I'm not about to kill you."

"How can you ask me if that's a surprise. I'm a cop. You're a gangster...and you've kidnapped me and kept me here against my will for months. Of course it's a shock." She shook her head. She had honestly expected him to decide to kill her after all...and here he was talking about her freedom. After a moment, she felt her brow furrow. But why now? "...have you noticed it...?" She thought she'd been hiding it so well... Did he honestly feel concerned for her? Was that why he wanted to let her go now?

"That you're getting restless, depressed? Being here is killing you, I've known it since day one. And I've tried everything to try to help you, short of letting you go." He didn't look up this time, a concerned frown taking over his usually calm expression. "And I know the instant I do you're going to vanish. Or bring your team here to take me down in my own home, far away from my men and any help I can call."

"That I"m sick." She corrected, wondering if he'd noticed the other signs, the signs hse'd been concealing for weeks. She was starting to cough up blood again..she was feeling weaker by the day...she was caged and an animal wasn't meant to be caged. At the last, she bit her lip, thinking her words over carefully. He'd been so kind to her, aside from letting her go..and she'd known it was all due to duty..not choice... After a moment, she let her tongue flicker out to wet dry lips before she took a shaky breath. "You saved my life, Kim Himchan.." She looked down. "I will try to extend the same courtesy...my team won't know this place exists as long as I can help it. They won't know where you live..you'll be safef in your home."

"Thank you, Soondeok." he gave a small smile at that, the expression weakened by the fact that letting her leave would save her life...and he would never see or hear from her again. "Give it until the end of the week. Long enough for me to make sure that all of my men know to leave you alone when you go home. I can even have you meet with a friend of mine that can teach you how to deal with things about your lycanthropy." It was only Saturday, giving him a week to get everything in order.

"The end of the week..." She thougth his words over for a moment before noddig slowly. "I'll hold you to that, Himchan-si." She looked up at him, offering a small, weak smile. "We can even..do something as a goodbye if you'd like. Dinner or...or a movie..something together." Why was it she suddenly felt...alone, amost afraid. She needed freedom...but she didn't want so much freedom that she was kicked out for good. She'd gotten so used to having him near... to having him there to talk to. She'd never had a roommate..and she'd been on her own for so long. "You'll have your men leave me alone? Even if I'm still after you?" AT the last, she tensed, shaking her head. "I...I don't think there's anyone I'd be comfortable talking about this to...but you."

"Really?" He raised an eyebrow at the offer to spend an evening together, even as a goodbye. Brightening at the thought, he nodded, offering a small, true smile. "...I'd like that. That sounds like a great idea." He found that he would miss her, even with how little they really got along. He liked having her around, to hear her opinions without seeing fear or hesitance in her eyes as he so often did the acquaintances he made outside of his brothers. "No one will come after you. I'll make sure of it. If you're after me, you'll only deal with me. You have my word. And...if you want, I can learn everything I can from Jongup and tell you myself, if you're more comfortable with that."

"If...if you're not busy, and yours like, we could even take just...thr whole day. I mean...if we're not going to see each other anymore I could...tolerate you for that long, I think." Why did she feel...sad? She wanted to leave, didn't she? She wanted to be free.. That statement hit her and she realized it was true. She wanted to be free. Free to leave...but also free to stay. She didn't want to disappear from his life forever. She didn't want him to hate her again, to leave... she wanted to call him friend. She even found she would miss sleeping so near to him, even in his arms on the nights the nightmares got bad enough...though she hadn't been in his arms since her wound healed. At the last, she dropped her gaze, shaking her head slowly. "Honestly...I don't want to talk about it. I can...I can handle it myself." She'd survived thus long without knowing...she could survive pretending it wasn't real, too...

"That sounds like a great idea. If you can tolerate me for that long." He chuckled softly. At the last, his smile fell, concern taking its place. "Soondeok...you know that you're full werewolf. That means that someday you might trigger a change. If you're still opposed to what you are, if you're even a little bit afraid of yourself...there's no telling what the wolf in you will do. I can help you accept it, embrace it...so that you're still you after the change. There won't be a disconnect, you won't black out until the next morning."

"I've tolerated you up until now, haven't I?" She smiled before hearing the last. Looking down at the counter, unable to meet his gaze, she shook her head. "I won't trigger it. I know I won't. I..I don't want to talk about it, okay? Just drop it, oppa." She hadn't realized the word left her lips, too focused on trying to hide how uncomfortable beinga wolf made her.

Unsure if she meant to call him that, he nodded, running his teeth over his lip for a moment before giving a soft sigh. "All right...I'll drop it." He said at last, knowing that he was in the right and wishing he could insist without causing another fight. She was being civil, even friendly. He didn't want to risk messing that up.

She bit her lip, fingers tracing a spot she'd carved her initials into, wondering if he'd ever even noticed... "...I'm sorry. I just...I don't want to talk abou it, okay? That's...that's a subject that's off limits. It's..about the only one that is, but it's still off limits. Alriht?"

"I understand." He nodded, hair falling into his eyes as he worked. Wincing as his teeth hit a place in his lip that had split from the day's excitement, he finished his task, turning to wash his hands before he did any other prep work.

As she saw him wince, her eyes focused on his lips for a moment, noticing the split. With a soft sigh, she moved to the freezer, pulling out a few pieces of ice, slipping them into a bag before turning bacck to him. "Himchan.." When he turned, she reached out, hand resting on his cheek while her other hand held the bag against his lip. "You didn't tell me about your day..." For the first time, she was being sweet, she was being kind...and she was certain he could see she had no anger, no resentment toward him. She was honlestly happy...ad she couldn't hide that from the man.

Surprised that she was calling him by name so informally, he jumped a little as he felt her hands and the cool pressure of the ice pack against his skin. Brushing his hair from his eyes and revealing the shiner that was forming already, he offered a weak smile. "I didn't want to bother you with it if you didn't want to hear." He replied softly, struck by how beautiful she really was when she relaxed like this. "One of my boys...one of the ones I was helping to climb the ranks...turned out to be working against me."

She frowned at his words, seeing the bruise darkening as time passed. With a soft sigh, she moved the pack from his lip up to his eye. Eyes remaining locked on her work, she felt her heart give a jump. She was suddenly very glad he was human..he couldn't hear the way her heart was racing. How it had been racing for a week. "I asked you. You weren't bothering me. I really...want to know how it was. What happened." Her free hand brushed his cheek before sliding to the line of his jaw, then the side of his neck, unaware of how intimate, how kind the touches were, too focused on her work. "What did he do?"

Leaning into her touches for a moment, finding much more comfort in her touch than he expected, he let out a weary sigh. "He was giving information to the police. I...I should have known. But he was such a promising, intelligent kid, willing to work, giving great ideas and not afraid to give his opinion on how things can be done better. I was reminded a lot of Junhong, they had a similar energy, a similar enjoyment of life...and it was just a game to get as close to us as he could. Thought he could be a hero, get the big payoff that the city commissioner is offering for anyone that can give the right information to take me down." The more he spoke the more the day's events showed on his face, the betrayal of someone that he had considered inviting into the family itself, someone he had encouraged and trained personally when he could.

She frowned at his words, surprised tofind she felt sympathetic toward him. She almost felt...like she wanted to cheer him up. To do something to lift his spirits, to put him in a better mood. What was happening to her? As her fingers brushed the side of his neck gently, she hummed softly. "You seem...really bothered by him, by this whole thing. Are you alright?"

"I cared about him. I was really considering making a place for him with my brothers...they didn't even suspect that something might be wrong. None of us did." Looking back to her with a weak smile, he chuckled wryly. "I...I'm not sure, to be honest. It's a hell of a thing to come into my bar, the closest thing I have to a home in the city...and find twenty hired thugs waiting for me at the direction of a man I was proud to call my friend."
