The Mirror - Garden
NoWealthNoRuin
A grand courtyard within a hotel on the inside of the border between the territories. It's been taken and retaken so many times that not even the family heads know who originally laid claim to it.

"You're probably lucky you don't. I own the Hana Financial Group. The bank that owns...just about everything." He laughed softly, shaking his head. "This party's price tag is taken care of by me." And likely her payroll, her job, her boss' boss' job...

"Hana Financ-" she cut off, realizing this was the man that had paid for her flight there, her moving expenses...this was the man that had made sure she could come here in the first place. Her heart jumped, her stomach twisted nervously. Shit...and he had no clue who she was, did he? She cleared her throat. "Oh...so you...really mean you won. You're some big...business man. How boring."

"What isn't boring is the fact that ten years ago, I was a homeless son of a prostitute living twelve blocks away from here." He shrugged lightly, taking another drag on his cigarette. "Success is a carrot dangled in front of us to keep us from offing ourselves too early. All I had to do was figure out how to trick the hand into letting it go."

Cheeks flushing as she realized how insulting her words could have been, she looked up at him again. God, he really was attractive. Her brow rose slightly. "You tricked the hand into letting go? So what hand was it? how did you trick it?" He really had no clue who she was. After a moment, she looked up at him again and offered a weak smile. "...and I suppose...if you're the owner of Hana Group...I should thank you, shouldn't I?"

"Made the right friends, played the right games...made sure the right people knew my name. And soon enough I owned them all." He shrugged once again, knowing that was only a vague account of what had happened. A lot of sweat, tears, and blood had gone into his climb to power. Especially blood. And very little of it was his own. "Thank me?" He asked at the last. "What for?"

She smiled slightly. "I'm the new school teacher you hired. The one you paid every expense for. The one that was brought here to take care of...who was it, your nephew? Friend's son? Something like that? A kid you know, from what I was told." She shrugged, looking up at him. "I'm Lyric." Smiling slightly, she raised a brow. "If it wasn't for you, I'd be broke and stuck in my hometown."

"Yeon Yun. He's my best friend's son." He nodded, realization dawning in his eyes as she explained her role. "Lyric...it's a pleasure to meet you personally. Seunghyun speaks pretty highly of you." He added with a smile.

"Call me Lee, it's easier to say with the accent." She laughed weakly, seeing him recognize her finally. with a small nod, she moved to a nearby bench and took a seat. "It's a pleasure ot meet you, too, I suppose." Seunghyun spoke highly of her...? "I wonder why he'd do that."

"He thinks that kid hung the moon in the sky, and you're helping him have fun with lessons that he absolutely despised with the last four teachers we found. If Yeon Yun says you're his favorite teacher, that means you've managed a miracle." He shook his head with a softer, fond smile at the thought of the child. "He hasn't tried to run you out of the country yet. You're doing great."

"I've only been here a month, Kwon-si." She laughed softly, shaking her head. "He hasn't had time to try to run me out of the country yet. Does he really not like teachers? He's always in such a good mood in my class and he's always so sweet. He told me he's in love with me yesterday." She laughed softly, looking up at the man again. If her work really was so impressive, maybe she could reject what was ordered of her without fear of being fired after all. "I'm his favorite..? Really?"

"You've lasted three weeks longer than the other four teachers." He pointed out with a soft laugh of his own. At the last, he couldn't hide a grin. "That means you're really in his favor. He hates everyone but Seunghyun and me. You're either really great or really lucky...and I think it might be both."

"Or maybe I'm secretly an evil businessman. That seems to be his type." She laughed softly, tucking her messy hair behind her ear. For a while she'd forgotten she was out there hiding. That was, until a sharp voice at the door ordered her back inside with slurred words and not-so-hidden suggestions. She tensed. Right...that's why she was there in the first place.

"You're the prettiest evil businessman I've ever seen, if that's the case." He laughed once again, shaking his head. Hearing the sound of her drunken date, he frowned, shooting the man a glare. "Mr. Jung. Lovely to see you here, making an ass out of yourself once again. Nice to see that the wine hasn't done anything to dampen that vile personality of yours." His eyes were sharp, betraying the edge behind his falsely friendly tone.

The man was in the process of using informal speech and plenty of curses toward the woman before he heard Jiyong speak. Frowning, he looked at the other man. "Mr. Kwon, I didn't realize you were out here. You'll have to excuse my date. She's a bit of a slut to anyone with a nice suit. I hope she's not bothering you. She's quite the gold-digger, isn't she?"

The woman looked at the drunk, eyes flashing at his words. How could he be so crude when he'd barely spoken more than five words to her that night? Besides...he'd been the one being so damn crude.

"The only one that you need to apologize for is yourself. Apologize to me for your hideous speech, and then apologize to miss Lyric for your horrible treatment of her. She won't be going anywhere with you tonight, or any night. And you'll be lucky to have a job when you sober up, you fat pig." All trace of a smile was gone from his face, drawing to his full height before glaring coldly at the man before him. "She's my date now. Go home before you make a mistake you can't pay for."

The rage passed before the drunk man's face, but he knew better than to argue with the leader of Hana Financial. Shooting a final insult toward the woman, he stalked into the hotel.

Lyric watched the exchange, startled that her new acquaintance had stood up for her, she couldn't hold back a small smile as her "date" spluttered, got angrier, and then left. When she heard the man say she was his date now, she turned her attention back to Kwon Jiyong. "I'm your date now? You...do realize that I'm human and I can make those decisions myself, don't you?"

"Would you rather be called names by a spineless bastard for the rest of the night? Calling you my date means he won't dare say anything against you...to you, me, or your boss." He shot her a wink, relaxing as the man walked away. Smart move. Though he wasn't entirely convinced that he shouldn't make the man disappear... "Where you go from here is still your choice, but I like talking to you."

"Ahjussi..I didn't ask to be saved." She laughed softly, shaking her head. "I could have handled him myself." AS he said the last, he watched him for a moment before smiling again. "You like talking to me? You're not bored with the school teacher just yet? You don't think what he was saying is true? That I'm after you because of the fancy suit?"

"You didn't. And you could have. But I wanted to, anyway." He shrugged lightly. At the last, he laughed, shaking his head. "No, you're not after me. Believe me, I've dealt with enough simpering, painted, fake women that wanted nothing more than the money and power that came from being with me. They stare at me like I'm a piece of meat in a room full of hyenas every time I walk into a room. You're nothing like them...and maybe that's why I like talking to you so much. You're the first real thing I've seen in years."

"It's the shitty dress style, isn't it?" She laughed softly, looking up at him. "I don't think you're a piece of meat. I think you're full of yourself and I think you're stubborn and you're...arrogant, but I don't think of you as a piece of meat, no." After another moment, she smiled softly. "I'm real?" The music from inside started to drift into the gardens, providing a soft, romantic tune.
