"Come on, my treat. I'm the one distracting you today, aren't I?" He stood once again, holding his hand out to help her to her feet. "The cold doesn't bug me. And there's not a lot of people out here; it's pretty peaceful. You, on the other hand, look like you're about to turn blue."

She eyed his hand, wondering if she should take it after all. Her heart jumped at the thought of touching him, touching anyone. After a moment, she slowly reached up, slipping her hand into his to accept his help pulling her to her feet. "I get cold really easily...I'm used to it if you'd prefer to stay here."

"And miss the opportunity to spend time with a new friend? Why would I do that?" His grin brightened as she took his hand, pulling her up before letting out a soft exclamation at the feel of her skin. "Your hands are like ice!" He added, taking her hand between both of his to try to warm it up.

"I just meant we both could stay out here. I wouldn't be leaving. I--" she cut off as he exclaimed in surprise. Her cheeks flushed when he took her hand to warm it, heart pounding in her chest as she looked up at him, meeting his gaze once again. "I..I-I'm always...a-always cold, K-Kang-si." Her flush darkened as she realized how warm he was. "I'm alright, really. You don't have to..."

"No wonder you're shivering! Here, take this," He shrugged out of his jacket, placing the bright blue-and-green garment around her shoulders. "I'm too warm from practice anyway; you need it more than me."

Her cheeks burned even darker and she looked up at the boy in shock. "YOu...you really don't have to do this. I can handle the cold. It's not that bad. I mean..." She trailed off, fingers gripping the jacket as a breeze ran over her and she shivered again. "You're...really kind."

"I'm burning up, you can use it." He assured her, feeling his face heat a little at the compliment. "I'm just happy to help out a friend. Come on, I know a place around the corner that has the best hot chocolate. I've been craving it all morning." Taking one of her hands in his, he started back down the path out of the park.

"F...friend?" She looked up at him in shock. She had never had a friend before... This was..odd. With her heart pounding, she felt him take her hand and it beat faster. She flushed darker as she stumbled after him for a moment before catching her footing and continuing down the path. "Where are we going?"

"Just a block or so over there," He gestured to the street just visible beyond the park's trees. "The students around here like the coffee place next to the school, so we shouldn't get caught skipping. The only people I see in this place are office workers." Turning back to her with another bright smile, he added, "So it makes people-watching interesting."

Seeing hte smile, her heart gave a hard bump. She felt her own lips start to pull at a small smile as she looked up athim. Her fingers slowly curled around his and she followed a little easier. "People-watching? You like to watch people."

"I love to watch people. Everyone's got their stories, their worries, their lives...it's fun to try to guess what they are. Have you ever tried it before?" He asked, checking the street carefully before crossing just a little too quickly. He couldn't really explain everything to do with his current situation, but busy crossings still made him nervous. He didn't know if he could even get hurt, but he wasn't about to tempt fate.

Shaking her head as he asked her if she hd done it, she struggled to keep up with him as they crossed the street. His legs were quite a bit longer than hers..."No, I've never really tried it. Have you ever asked someone if you're right?"

"No, not really. There's something to the mystery. If they're a regular customer, sometimes they'll prove me wrong." As he walked, he didn't notice that a car was breezing through a red light, nearly taking out two others as it sped toward them.

Chanhi was almost to the sidewalk, but with his long arms and her short ones, she was still quite a bit behind him. As the car sped toward them, she felt her breath stop. She couldn't even make a sound as she car's breaks squealed and she turned her gaze tow atch it head straight toward her. Even if she ran, she couldn't get out of the way fast enough.

Turning, he saw her freeze as the car sped toward her. With a shout, he turned back, hoping that whatever force brought him out of the hospital would give him some kind of speed as he ran, grabbing her arm and pulling her hard toward him, arms winding tightly around her as he fell back against the street and out of the way of the car. His back stung and the air was knocked from his lungs, surprising him. He had thought that while his body was somewhere else, he couldn't get hurt... Making sure she was secure and safe on his chest, he tried to catch his breath again, heart pounding in a mixture of fear and adrenaline.

Her own heart raced, her ears rang and her hand rested on his chest, feeling the way his heart matched her own in speed. What had just happened? Had she nearly died...? Had he saved her life....? Like...like a drama? What the hell was even happening...? When she was able to think about what had happened, she took a shaky breath. "Th...thank you...."

"You're...welcome..." He wheezed, a weak smile on his lips as he tried to get his thoughts in order. Cars still made him nervous, and a close call like that reminded him of moments he would rather forget. "Are you...okay?"

As she saw the smile, her body relaxed slightly. He was still...so happy. As she heard the last, she nodded slowly, shifting to roll off of him with a soft apology before looking down at him again. "I'm okay. Are you? You hit the ground so hard..."

"It hurt more than I expected." He managed with a little more strength, laughing weakly as he shakily made his way to his feet. "I...don't like cars. People that drive them are too reckless. He could have really hurt you..."

She still sat on the ground, rubbing her wrist where he'd grabbed her gently. It was already starting to purple from the force he'd used to pull her. She cleared her throat. "Do you need to go to a doctor?"
