The Alley
NoWealthNoRuin
Much less intricate than the Rabbit Hole's labyrinth, just a small series of back roads behind the Shooting Star and the other businesses on the block.

"Don't worry so much, friend." He laughed softly, shaking his head as his fingers tightened on her thighs. "I'm glad you're feeling better. You need to rest when we get home..."

"Rest sounds...pretty great." She nodded with a faint chuckle, too aware of the warmth of his hands. She wondered for a moment what sort of training he had gone through in order to carry her with such ease. "Did you...did you tell your mother that you were bringing a guest?"

He gave a soft hum. "...no. But she won't care, I promise." Finally reaching the front door, he knocked gently before calling softly to his girlfriend, telling her that he was home and opening the door.

Sure that there would be some sort of problem, she ducked a little to make sure she wouldn't hit the doorway, unconsciously making herself seem smaller in the face of the unknown. A sleepy mumble from behind one door made her wonder if that was the mother he spoke of, though lights were still on in the house.

With a laugh, he stepped inside, setting her on her feet. "I brought a guest, she'll be staying with us for a while." He called through the house, slpping off his shoes and into a pair of slippers before looking back at her. "Come on..they're eating."

Nodding with a weak smile, she glanced around at the details that told her of a warm, loving home. Pictures of an older woman, a girl, and the man before her littered the walls, detailing a life that was...comfortable. A life that was happy.

He looked down at the woman, flushing softly. She seemed...pleased with what she saw. 'It's not much...but it's home." His voice was soft as he watched her closely. DId she judge him...?

"It's...really nice." She smiled softly as she looked from the walls back to him. "It's comforting. Feels like a home." He seemed worried. Was he really so concerned over a stranger's opinion of his home?

Witha smile, a relaxed smile, he led her further into the house, bringing her to a table where and older woamn already sat, eating. "This is eomma...my girlfrind." he gestured to the woman. "She'll look after you when I"m not here." as he sat at the table, he gave the woman a pointed, meaningful look before smiling brightly.

"Thank you for your kindness." She bowed before taking a hesitant seat, offering the woman a nervous smile. "Officer Han...speaks very highly of you, ma'am."

The woman looked the girl over for a long moment, silent. When her eyes met the man she called her son, she couldn't hold back a samll smile. He was still trying so hard to right the wrongs from fourteen years ago. With a wide smile, she looked at the girl. "Welcome home. Im glad to hear he isn't insulting, at least."

"No, ma'am." She shook her head, allowing herself a small smile. "I promise I won't be any trouble. I'll help with whatever you want." She added, hoping that dropping in unannounced wasn't as much of an annoyance as she feared.

Waving the girl off, she stood, moving to the kitchen to prepare another plate for dinner. "Oh, hush. You're a part of this family now. No need to be so tense."

At the mention of being a part of the family, she shot a questioning look at the officer at her side before calling after the woman, "Uh...thank you, ma'am." Family...that was a pretty strong word for a woman to use to someone that she had only just met.

Grinning a little sheepishly, he looked at the girl and gave a small shrug. "It's...well...she...if you step foot into this house, you become family. It doesn't matter who you are, that's just the kind of woman she is. She...lost her daughter but she gained two more children in the same day. She's....she was born to be a mom."

"I didn't know anyone could be that kind..." She hadn't experienced such kindness in a long time, she noted before glancing back to the man at her side. "But...seeing how kind you are, it makes sense. She's been a good influence on you, hasn't she?"

"she's bewn the best. She's a big reason i haven't given up oj that friend i lost. Eomma... She wont let me. Or... She's the reason i won't let me." He smiled, looking after the woman before turning his gaze back to the girl. "So... You're a part of our crazy, messed up family now. You're stuck forever."

"I'm used to crazy and messed up, remember? This is...a much better change." She found his smile contagious. "Thank you again...I probably can't thank you enough for what you've done."

Borrowing money in Seoul was anything but a good idea, Lee Mirae knew, but when the bank denied her a loan to help pay her bills, she had been given an offer by her boss that she thought she couldn't refuse. What she didn't know was that the man she thought was the manager of a higher-end department store was actually in the pocket of one of the up-and-coming groups of the city's underground, and with the heavy cutting of her hours just after, she didn't know she was being set up for failure until it was too late. After two large, intimidating figures came into the store a week after she was unable to pay the money back, she found herself slipping out of the shop before any of her coworkers could point her out, pulling the hood of her jacket up as she made her way down the street. She had to stay calm, she thought quickly. Act as if nothing is wrong. If she could only get home, maybe she could find enough to pack up and get out of there for a while. Where she would go after that was a different story...

Choi Youngdo had been having a particularly awful day. Kim Tan was back in town, all his childhood hatred had welled up again and he had even gotten into a fist fight pretty quickly. As he sat the the convenience store, lip swollen and bleeding, stirring his ramen noodles, he watched the girl pass by, lifting her hood higher. She was in trouble...how interesting.
