The Alley
NoWealthNoRuin HK's Territory
Much less intricate than the Rabbit Hole's labyrinth, just a small series of back roads behind the Shooting Star and the other businesses on the block.

"I'm just doing my job." He flashed her a wink, grinning as she seemed to really enjoy him being there, the things he'd done for her. "You think I'm sweet?"

"That's a given. Most cops I've met wouldn't have done half of what you did. There's too much paperwork, red tape, a process to go through. You look like the type that asks for forgiveness more often than permission."

"I..don't really do paperwork. And I definitely don't ask for permission often. There's hardly ever time for that kind of thing." HE laughed, looking back at her. "How are you feeling?"

"So you're reckless." She teased, shaking her head with a smile. At the last, she shrugged. "Better, I think. Still lost. I'm still not sure that I'm not asleep under that fire escape and I just dreamed all of this."

"I'm definitely reckless." He grinned watching her closely. Better. She said better. HE relaxed a little at her words. "It's not a dream. You're really safe. I swear it."

"It might be a long time before I really believe that." She gave a wry chuckle, looking down to her hands in her lap, hair falling into her face. "I'm just...not sure he'll take losing that easily."

"Oh, he wont. But don't worry...I'll make sure he has no choice..or he'll end up behidn bars...and I'll personally put him there." He grinned, flashing her a wink. "I have zero tolerance for people like him. I've seen it practically all my life...and it's...partially why I became a detective."

"You dealt with people like him before?" She asked, raising an eyebrow as she looked up at him through her hair. "Before you were a cop, I mean."

"I deal with people like him all the time." As she clarified, he tensed a little. AFter a long moment, he spoke, voice soft, hardly above a whsiper. "I've dealt with people much worse than him before I was a cop."

Frowning at his reaction, she found she much preferred his smile. Reaching out, she hesitated for a moment before laying a hand on his arm. "I'm...I'm sorry."

As he felt the hand on his arm, he couldn't hold back his surprise as he glanced up at her. For a moment he didn't smile, he didn't do anything. Then, pulling himself back into the present, he put on a smile, the look much less convincing than before. "Oh, don't be sorry. It was a long time ago."

"It...looks like it still hurts." She commented without thinking, frown deepening for a moment. "I know it's not my business, but I'm sorry either way."

He offered a weak smile, nodding. "I...lost someoen that was very important to me a long time ago...because of people worse than your boyfriend."

Apologizing once again, she gave his arm a squeeze, finding that the sight of him upset bothered her much more than she expected. A part of her wanted to ask what happened, but she figured that it was a tale that hurt too much to share.

Feeling the squeeze, he looked up at her, offering a weak smile before shaking his head again. "You don't have to apologize. It was a long time ago. I beat myself up on it every day and I probably always will...but that's why I work so hard. To make sure it never happens to anyone again."

"Living with the weight of that...has to hurt." She said at last, realizing that she was touching him without permission and letting her hand fall away with another apology. "You're...a good man, officer Han. I didn't think there were any people like you in the world anymore."

He nodded at the first, sighing softly. "I wish I'd been a good man then, honestly."Shaking his head, he took a deep breath before he found it a little easier to offer a smile. "You don't have to worry about me. That...tragedy made me who I am today."

"Good people always suffer." She mumbled without thinking, shaking her head as she realized she had spoken aloud. Before she could think of anything else to say, a nurse came by, asking if Hajin needed a taxi called to take her home. She nearly waved her off before she realized that she had no home to return to. She had no idea where she would be staying from now on.

"No, she's living with me." He smiled softly, offering the nurse a wink before he asked if she was about ready to be discharged. His gaze moved back to the woman after the nurse left to get the discharge papers and he smiled. "At least..temporarily, if that's alright. I can make sure you're safe."

"I'm...you..." She tried to gather her wits, clearing her throat and nodding. "Y-yeah, that...that's all right. You don't have to do this, you know, I've caused you so much trouble already."
