The Alley
NoWealthNoRuin
Much less intricate than the Rabbit Hole's labyrinth, just a small series of back roads behind the Shooting Star and the other businesses on the block.

As he stared out at the ocean, he felt his worries start to ease, his anger, his tension. He wasn't sure how long they stood there. One minute, five, an hour...he had no idea..but finally, his trance was broken as he heard the splash of another dolphin and he glanced around. The sun was starting to set...Glancing back at the girl, he wondered what she thought of this place, if maybe he shouldn't ahve brother her here. "...Let's go back."

Listening to the ocean, watching the snowflakes fall around them, feeling like nothing and no one else existed in the world, she felt her worries ease. The pounding in her head stopped, and she felt a little lighter, a little freer than she had before. She had no idea how much time had passed, snapping back to the moment as he spoke once again. Nodding at the decision, she found herself reluctant to leave this peaceful place behind to return to the chaos of their lives. "Could you...I mean, if it's not too much trouble, could you give me directions to get here sometime? I'd...I'd like to come back." She was sure he wouldn't want to drag her out here more than this once, though she still had no clue why he'd taken her here in the first place. Did he really want to do something helpful...?

He tensed at her words, thinking them over for a long moment. The road to get there was dangerous if you didn't know it well..there were cliffs, falling rocks, steep hills..something he wasn't entirely comfortable telling her how to get to without someone there to make sure she was safe. For a long moment, he was silent, he was contemplating, wondering how he could keep this toy--this woman safe...without showing her he was concerned for her safety. Deciding there wasn't really a way to do that, he cleared his throat. "Let me know when you want to come...I'll bring you. Whenever you want."

For a moment she was tempted to ask what price she would have to pay before she saw the serious look on his face. He wasn't playing around, she noted. In fact, he almost seemed concerned. What was going on...? "...Thank you, Youngdo-ssi." She said at last, unable to find anything that could really encompass what was on her mind. This day was getting weirder by the moment, but at least it wasn't all bad.

Frowning, realizing she'd never called him by his first name, he gave a small shrug, turning toward the bike. "You don't have to thank me, I just don't want you getting killed because you can't handle a couple directions." He started to walk away from the shore, a snowflake falling on his cheek. Next time he'd ahve to be sure she had a heavier coat...

And there was the mask again, she thought, though it was a little less annoying than it had been before. Maybe they had more connecting them than her debt. Remembering that she still had his jacket, she added, "Don't you need this back? You block the wind when I'm sitting behind you; you'll need it more than me."

As she mentioned his jacket, he turned to face her, looking at it for a moment. She'd have to wrap her arms around him to keep from falling off..and if she did that, she couldn't keep her hands warm. "Yeah, give it back...and put your hands in my pockets again. Just like on the way here. It'll be colder now. The snow's falling."

Nodding, she shrugged the jacket off of her shoulders, passing it back to him with a soft thanks. He was so concerned about her keeping her hands warm, she thought in passing. What was on his mind?

As he climbed back into the bike, he handed her the spare helmet before glancing back at her. "Tell me where you live. I'll take you home."

Putting the helmet on, she told him the address and neighborhood before climbing on the back of the bike as well, still half-convinced that there was going to be some punchline to this oddly kind behavior. After all, he had no reason to do this for her...what was he doing?

With a sigh, he reached back, taking both of her hands and putting them into his pockets before he started the bike again. Nodding at the neighborhood, he started down the road again, not wanting to talk. Whatever had gotten into him, whatever made him show her his place, his secret.... He was sure he'd come to regret it...

Startled by the sudden contact, she shifted a little closer to him as he headed back toward the road. He was a man of few words, she thought, compared to how talkative he had been the day before. Was this what sat beneath the confident, cocky presentation he gave to everyone else?

As they sped off, she tried to ignore the feeling of...comfort that he got from her arms around him. He tried to ignore the warmth of her against his back...he tried to ignore the way his heart gave a bump every time he thought about the smile he'd put on her face by bringing her here... The drive seemed longer than the first one, perhaps he was going slower to make the time last...but soon enough, too soon for his taste, he approached her house, pulling over and stopping the bike. He didn't move, he didn't speak, wondering in the back of his mind if perhaps this trip had affected her as it had him.

Lost to her thoughts and the sights that passed them, she found that the drive seemed a little too short as he stopped in front of her house. Removing the helmet and handing it to him, she paused for a moment before finding the words she needed. "Thank you, Youngdo-ssi. That really helped."

He frowned at her thanks, knowing that if anyone saw him here, if anyone saw them together, he'd have to play it off. "Don't mention it..."

"I, uh...I guess I'll see you tomorrow." She said at length. Her first official day of school. She would still need to find a job if she wanted to repay her debt, as well, but no place that she had applied to would get back to her.

He reached out before he could stop himself, gripping her wrist to keep her from walking away. His eyes met hers and he was silent for a long moment before he found his words again. 'I mean it... Don't mention it. To anyone."

Jumping at his touch, she met his eyes, nodding at the demand. "O-of course. It's between rs. I promise."

As he watched her, searching, seeming to try to convince himself that she asn't lying, he held her wrist tightly. After a moment, seeming to be pleased with what he saw, he released her. "..get some sleep. Tomorrow...won't be easy."

"I'm sure." She mumbled without thinking, thoroughly confused by the difference between the man she met and the man she was seeing now. Which side of this man was the real one? "I'll see you tomorrow, Youngdo-ssi."
