The Alley
NoWealthNoRuin
Much less intricate than the Rabbit Hole's labyrinth, just a small series of back roads behind the Shooting Star and the other businesses on the block.

Spotting the convenience store, she ducked inside, hoping that the figures hadn't seen where she had gone. Maybe if she hung out for a while, she could dodge them entirely and go home to figure out what to do with her life from here. She wouldn't have her job, she knew, but would putting out applications lead the loan sharks to her door? She couldn't afford to move out of the city, but she might not live if she stayed... Trying to clear her mind, she bought a bottle of water, leaning against the counter a little ways away from the stranger, making sure her back was to the window as she kept an eye to the door. She could do this, she told herself, trying to stop her trembling. She would be all right.

Watching hte girl, he couldn't hold back a small smirk. She was afraid..hek new that look well, he saw it in everyone that crossed his path at school. After a moment, watching her buy the water, he tilted his head. After a moment, he stirred the seasoning into his noodles before clearing his throat. "One of three scenarios. You're running from someone you owe money to, you're running from a boyfriend...or you're running from the law. Which optionis it?"

Jumping at the voice, she glanced over to the stranger out of the corner of her eye, tensing before she realized that this was neither of the men that had been looking for her. The odds had to be low that he had anything to do with the mysterious Mr. Kim and her debt. Taking a drink from the bottle in her hand, she forced her voice to be cool and disinterested. It was a skill she'd had a lot of time to build. "Or option four: nothing you need to concern yourself with."

Tilting his head, he smirked. "That may be true...but I know fear when I see it. I usually cause it. So I'm going to say....number one. I've seen enough of people that owe someone." As he took a bite of his noodles, he looked up at the girl again. "Should I go out and announce where you are? I'm sure if I step outside and yell down the street someone will come.' He stood as if to make his point.

"You cause it? Wow, you must be one hell of a charmer." The comment slipped past her lips before she could stop it, taking another drink before she found some other stupid thing to say. She didn't need any more trouble than she had. At the last, she reached out, grabbing his sleeve without thinking. "No, wait! ...Fine. You're right. But you don't even know me, in a few minutes I'll walk out of your life and you can go back to...eating ramen."

"I am." He smirked, stepping closer to her as he felt her grab his sleeve. He shifted even closer until he was leaning over her, pressing her back against the counter without actually touching her. His eyes searched hers for a long moment before he gave a small smirk. "What's your name?" This was entirely too much fun.

She backed away as he approached, feeling the counter at her back as she tried and failed to let her discomfort show on her face. Just what was he planning? Caught in his gaze, she felt much more like prey in the line of sight of a cunning predator. "Wh...what does it matter...?" She asked, voice a little weaker than before.

He smiled. "How old are you, then?" Was she older than him? A highschool student like him? She was pretty...and he was having a blast. She seemed to be afraid of him. Good...he liked when tey were afraid. He got what he wanted when people were afraid. Placing a hand on ht ecounter next to her, he watched her closely.

That couldn't be harmful to her to admit, could it? He looked like the type she used to go to school with, before life got too tough to keep from working full-time. "......Eighteen." She said at last. "I just turned eighteen. Why?"

"Eighteen and you're already running from loan-sharks? You don't go to school?" He raised a brow, eyes locked on hers. After a moment, a small smile spread over his lips. "You won't give me your name?"

"Yes, I am. And no, I don't. It's hard to go to school and pay off debts at the same time." She bristled a little under the attention. That smile was definitely not attractive, she thought absently. This seemed like a boy who got whatever he wanted, by force or by sheer privilege. "Why, so you can shout it down the street to let those trained monkeys know where I am?"

"If I wanted to let them know where you are, I would have done it by now. I'm having fun playing with just us two." After a moment, his eyes flickered to the window and he saw two men in suits peering through store window after store window. With a small smirk, he looked down at the woman. "...Don't move." His hand moved to the back of her neck, leaning close as if to kiss her. His lips stopped just short of her own, feeling his breath fan over her skin, making it appear as if they were a couple, sharing a moment in the back of the convenience store. He didn't kiss her, but those outside wouldn't know that. When he opened his eyes, he saw the two men continue down te street and his gaze moved to the girl again, smile widening. "They're gone."

Her response died on her lips as he pulled her close, hood falling away as she tensed, hands moving to his chest with the intention of pushing him away. The voices outside were what stopped her, recognizing them as her pursuers and realizing what he must be doing. Her fingers tightened in his jacket instead, trembling as she waited, sure that this stranger could feel her heart pounding from their proximity. They were so close...any movement from either of them and the distance between them would be crossed. At long last, she let out a breath he didn't realize she had been holding as he spoke, relaxing a little against the counter. She wanted to turn her head, to check the street herself, but she found she couldn't look away from him. "Why...why did you do that?"

Tilting his head slightly as she spoke, he felt a smile pull at his lips again. His eyes took her in for a long moment, nothing but silence between them. After a moment, smile widening even more, he gave a small shrug, hand still at the back of her head. "Because...I claim you. You're mine now. The only person that gets to mess with you...is me."

"You...you what?" She asked, flush darkening as she tried to make sense of what sort of situation she had gotten herself into. "You...you don't know me, you don't know my name, all you know is that I'm in trouble. And you can't just...claim a stranger like that."

He grinned a bit wider, tapping her nose. "I just did." Straightening, he stepped out of the convenience store, calling the men that were searching over. Asking for the girl's name and how much she owed, he pulled his wallet out, handing the entire amount in cash over to the men before turning back toward the girl and peering at her through the window. This was going to be fun. "Lee Mirae..."

"What? Wait, ahjussi, stop--" She froze as she saw him call the men back over, sure that he would sell her out in a heartbeat. Much to her surprise, he handed over several bills to the goons, feeling her blood run cold as he looked back to her. After several moments, she opened the door to approach him. "What did you do that for? Why did you just--am I going to have to pay you back now?" Anyone that carried that much cash on them had to have more than enough to get by. Especially to just throw it away like that. She knew people like him had no intention of doing things like this out of the kindness of their heart.

Giving a soft affirmative sound at the questoin, he nodded. At the last, he smirked. "I told you. You're my new plaything. If I don't want anyone else to mess with you, I have to make sure you don't have anyone chasing after you for a little debt...because they'd be messing with you, Lee Mirae."

"...So what, you'll beat me within an inch of my life if I don't pay you back, is that it? Do you work for the same man those thugs do, or are you someone else's lackey?" She asked without thinking, still trying to figure out just what the hell had happened. "What do you mean by messing with me? What if I decide to call the police for harassment?"

"I don't hit girls." He shook his head, giving a soft chuckle. "But I could do worse. Press charges, sue you, ruin you for any other employment opportunity in the city..." As he heard the words, the questions on her lips, he oculdn't help but feel a little insulted. She had no idea who he was or what his family did. He wasn't part of the mob... Clicking his tongue at her, he tilted his head. "Call the police if you want, it won't do any good"
