The Alley
NoWealthNoRuin
Much less intricate than the Rabbit Hole's labyrinth, just a small series of back roads behind the Shooting Star and the other businesses on the block.

Hajin cursed softly as she sat beneath a fire escape in the labyrinth of alleyways, knees pulled to her chest to seem as small as possible. A darkening bruise on her cheek was starting to sting, as well as a few on her ribs and stomach. Thankfully her pursuer wouldn't be able to find her here. Her phone was silenced, ringing nearly constantly as she cursed her awful luck. All she had to do was wait until her boyfriend was sober, she told herself firmly. Or at least until he drank himself into going to sleep. Then his anger would dissipate, as it always did. Hopefully he was so far gone that he wouldn't remember that she left the house at all... Drawing further into herself, she took a deep breath to steady her nerves, wiping her face of the tears she had shed before she left the apartment.

Jungwoo had been working. Chsing a killer, hunting another rapist. He had his plate full and he'd been in the middle of a stake-out when he saw it. A man, stumbling into an alley, insulting whoever he was pursuing. He could see the rage, the murder in the man's eyes. With a soft curse, he climbed out of his car, leaving his partner to stake-out while he followed the figure into the alley. Seeing the man go one way, he glanced down, noticing a smaller footprint leading the opposite way. When he was sure the man was gone, he followed the foot-print, voice soft. "Hello...? Is there..is there anyone out here?

She had heard the cursing, drawing further into herself and holding her breath in an attempt to stay hidden. Damn it, she had hoped it would be too cold for him to bother. Shivering, she listened to the voice of her pursuer grow more faint before the new voice made her jump. It didn't sound like any of Chan's friends... "Is he gone?" She ventured, knowing that he wouldn't call anyone in to help. It was easier to go home and wait for her to return, as she always did.

Nodding, then realizing she couldn't see, he cleared his throat. "He is. You're safe...You can come out now." What was the story..? Who was she...?

For a moment she considered staying in her hiding spot, but without shoes or a jacket, she knew she couldn't do this for much longer without getting sick or worse... Slowly she uncurled herself, moving from underneath the fire escape and into the open. Trying to stand as calmly as she could, she met the stranger's eyes, sizing him up. He didn't seem malicious...yet. "Who are you?" She asked after a moment, rubbing one bare foot against her other leg in an attempt to get the blood flowing.

"I'm a police officer." HE showed her his badge from her spot under the fireescape. As he aw her emerge, he felt rage flash through him at whatever creature had done this to her. For a moment, for only a moment, he saw Lee Sooyeon in her.. "You must be freezing." Taking a slow step forward, he held his hands up to hsow her he wouldn't hurt her. "Will you let me help you?"

Distrust flashed across her face as he moved closer, debating on whether or not she should find another place to wait out Chan's anger. But a police officer shouldn't start any trouble, she thought...right? "I...couldn't stop to get a jacket." She offered weakly, hair falling into her face. "Help me how?" She added at the last. If he went after Chan, it wouldn't end well for her...

"I...just want to give you my jacket. And..and some shoes." He slowly moved to slip his own jacket off and he held it out to her, still moving slowly forward. "My name is Han Jungwoo." He tossed the jacket to her, not wanting to get too close. "Please, put it on."

Surprised by the shift, she caught the jacket, thanking him quietly as she slipped it on. It still held his body heat, she found, shivering a little as she pulled the heavy fabric around her. "...I'm Yoo Hajin." She said at last. "You...don't have to worry about me, officer. When he's sober...I can go home again."

"When he's..." He trailed off, realizing what must have been happening. He reached down, pulling his shoes off of his feet and tossing them over as well. "When he's sober. Is this something that happens often, Ms. Yoo?"

"You don't have to do that, officer, it's freezing out, you need those." She shook her head quickly as she saw him removing his shoes. At the last, she chewed on her lip for a moment. It had been getting to be a more and more frequent occasion, but this was the third time that words had come to blows. "He doesn't usually...hurt me. Not like this."

Frowning, he gestured to the shoes. "Put them on. Please." Smiling weakly, he stood straighter. "Can I...Can I walk a little closer..?" He didn't usually hurt her... usually was enough. One time was enough. He was furious...and he knew the man's profile. He would hunt him down if it was the last thing he did. He had zero tolerance for abusers...Images of Sooyeon flashed through his mind again, the abuse shed taken, the kidnapping, the rape...all of it. His stomach twisted. "Please..."

Studying him for a long moment before deciding that he genuinely wanted to help, she nodded, bending to slip her bare feet into the shoes. Not surprisingly, they were much larger than her own. "You...you can." the sleeves of the jacket covered her hands completely, only her fingers visible as she brushed her hair away from her bruising eye.

He approached her, so slow, careful. His fingers moved up into styled hair and he stood just in front of her. Looking over the bruises, wondering how much worse it might be, he spoke, voice soft. "Can i..take you to a doctor...?"

She thought the question over before pulling the jacket just a little closer against the chill. Was he worried, or was this just what a cop did when he came across someone hiding in an alleyway? "...They'll want to call him. He's my emergency contact. I should let him cool down before going home." She said at last.

"I won't let them call him. I'll put myself down as your contact and I'll be sure to make sure you and I are the only ones that ever know you were there." He leaned a little closer to her, wanting to get a better view of her wounds. "Please. Let me help you, miss."

He really seemed worried, she thought, studying him as he studied her. "...Okay, Officer Han." She said at last, hair falling into her eyes as the wind picked up around them. "I'll go. You do have another pair of shoes, right? I'd...feel bad for using yours if you have to walk too far." It was a weak joke, trying in vain to make the situation seem less dire. She didn't need him worrying about her, after all. This was something that she could still manage. She had done pretty well so far.

"You use them." He shook his head, visibly relaxig when she agreed to come. With a small smile, he moved his hand, holding it out to her in gesture of peace, of offering. "Come on. I'll help you walk." As his eyes glanced down to her feet, he frowned slightly. "...here." Shifting, he knelt down in front of her. "Get on my back."

"I'm using your jacket and your shoes...and you want to carry me?" She asked, raising an eyebrow as he moved. "I...I can walk, Officer Han. You don't have to go to all of that trouble."

"I'll take my shoes and you can take my back. How's that?" He glanced over his shoulder at her, smiling softly. It was a smile that always wore down every woman he used it on. "Come on. I won't take no for an answer."
