The Alley
NoWealthNoRuin HK's Territory
Much less intricate than the Rabbit Hole's labyrinth, just a small series of back roads behind the Shooting Star and the other businesses on the block.

Daehyun hadn't been back in Seoul very long. He'd been enjoying the sounds of the sirens, the chatter of the people...and when he found himself walking down a busy street, he noticed a few young boys, no older than seventeen. Being out this late, seeing how they acted, how they moved through the alleyway, he knew what was happening. Initiations. He'd been through this once, as well. With a frown, he decided to follow them, wanting to help, to lead them away from harm. It was in his nature, after all.

She perked up a little as she saw a few figures make their way into the alley, adjusting the lens on her camera before quietly snapping some pictures. There were three close together, she saw, and another further behind. Wishing she could afford a camera that had better capabilities of taking pictures in low light, she zoomed in as much as she could to try to see the details of the newcomers' faces.

DAehyun approached the boys, told them to leave, to go home. When they attacked him, he looked more bored, more annoyed than anything. Disarming them easily, he used one of the boy's as a chair, sitting on his back as he sighed softly. "I"m trying to help you all, little punk."

Startled by the change in the events that she had expected to unfold, she took a few more pictures not out of a quest for a story, but to have evidence of the show. There went her breakthrough, she thought absently, but watching the stern-faced vigilante attempt to help these kids was worth the loss. She bit her lip in an attempt to stifle a giggle as she saw the man take a seat on the tallest boy, unable to keep from taking evidence of that as well.

He started ttalking, explaining to them that he'd been in their shoes, he'd been through it all. He told them that he'd had to do terrible things in his youth and that the only way he'd managed to get out was to get away. Deciding to be a mentor, he tossed a few cards onto the ground, explaining that they were his phone number if they wanted out. He wouldn't force them...but he knew what it was like.

Watching the way the story was turning out, she found herself rooting for this stranger as she shifted a little, feeling the discomfort of her position start to set in. Shifting on the rickety grating made more noise than she liked, freezing as she hoped all parties were too distracted by their heart-to-heart to notice the sound of the fire escape shifting against the brick.

Smacking them all onthe back of the head one final time, he stepped out of the alley, waiting a long moment before making his way toward the figure he'd seen on the roof. They were being watche,d he had no doubt abou it. And he intended to find out why. Stepping behind the girl in complete silence, he reached over her head to grip her camera, pulling it from her hands in one fluid movement.

She saw them leave, allowing herself to stretch with a sigh, grumbling that she'd have to find another story for her boss if she wanted to get paid this week. But it was worth the show, she thought with a smile. At the sudden intrusion, she let out a startled yelp, looking up to the figure and scrambling to her feet. "I--uh," She began, aware of just how tall this man was. "I-I know this looks bad, but--but I can explain everything."

He didn't say a word, flipping through the pictures in silence. After seeing how many she'd taken, and how many he was in, he sighed softly. Opening the camera, he removed the memory card and tucked it into his pocket before handing her the camera back and turning to walk away."

"Ah--Ahjussi!" Her eyes widened in shock as she saw him turn, running forward to stand before him once again. "I can delete the pictures, I promise. I'll even show you, but I need that card. I'm a reporter--I need to turn something into my boss or I can't get paid. I didn't mean to invade your privacy, I was just looking to help break up a deal that was supposed to be going down today. Please, ahjussi."

He froze as she moved in front of him. Watching her with a face practically made of stone, he stepped around her. "Neither those boys nor I have permission to have our pictures taken. How many others do you have on here?" He tapped the card gently. "Get a new card, this one's mine now." It had to be destroyed, he couldn't be caught on camera in his line of work. Besides even if she deleted them, as long as she still had the card she could get them back.

"Okay, I know what I did was wrong but those other pictures were taken honestly I swear, I'm three weeks behind on rent and if I don't turn something in to the editor I'm going to lose my job, please--" She spoke rapidly, jogging to catch up to the stranger's longer gait as he continued to walk. Desperation overriding logic, she bit her lip, running and jumping onto the man's back in an attempt to reach the hand that held the card. "I'm sorry!"

As he felt the girl jump on his back, he gave an undignified shout, hands moving to catch one of her legs around his waist as he stopped walking. In obvious shock, he shook his head, wondering how best to dislodge her without hurting her. AFter all, she hadn't really done anything to deserve pain. "Get off of me." HIs voice was soft, but didn't hide the danger he could provide. "I"m not giving this back. Find another way to earn your money than exposing people that don't wish to be exposed."

Not missing the muscle beneath her hands as she attempted to reach the arm that held the memory card, she heard the tone of his voice and wondered for a moment if her job was worth her safety. She had no idea who this man was, and even if he had gone out of his way to make sure those boys stayed out of trouble, he had beaten them pretty well first. "My work is more honest than that, ahjussi." She snapped, though she slid off of his back all the same. "Those guys weren't supposed to be there tonight, I was told that their bosses were going to make the drop personally. I was hoping to get enough evidence to help the police put them away." Her insistence on helping the city instead of chasing whatever headline she could was the main reason she was so behind, she knew. There was a massive difference between tabloid photographer and a real journalist...and she had to keep her work clean if she wanted to achieve that dream.

He stopped, turning hus head to look back at her. His face was expressionless, he didn't seem to care about anything at all. After a moment, he raised a brow. "And have you thought at all how trying to expose them might harm you? Harm the city or the police involved? What if the police think they have enough information, they go to trial and it's not enough? What if they walk away free again?"

"What else am I supposed to do? Go around like you and try to get them to listen to me and change their ways? We can't all be surly vigilantes like Batman." She shook her head with a deepening frown, annoyance rising at his cold attitude. "But I don't believe in standing back and letting them go on about their lives, hoping someone else will do something instead of doing what I can. If they don't cover their bases, that's not on me, but I'm sick of the people of this city walking by these problems and pretending that they aren't there."

Hearing her description of him, he tensed. Raising a brow, he looked at her for a moment before sighing softly. Shaking his head. "Get off of me. I don't want to hurt you." She seemed like a good person, a decent person. But he couldn't let her keep the card. His life would be at risk if he did. There was always a way to recover pictures after they were deleted...

With a soft agreement, Eunji dropped back to the ground, using his shoulders for balance before backing up to a more respectable distance. "I guess you're not going to give that back." She said at last, brushing her hair from her eyes. "Can you at least tell me why? Are you worried someone might figure out you're Bruce Wayne?" It was a poor attempt at a joke, she knew, but the mention of her possibly getting hurt was something she wasn't sure she wanted to test. Especially after jumping on him as she had.

"My name isn't Bruce Wayne." He smirked at the joke, turning tof ace her, showing her every bit of the soldier he was in his stance alone. "But something like that." He cleared his throat. "It's complicated. Just trust that I can't give it back...or I would." He frowned. "How much is your rent? I'll compensate you, instead."

Giving a small smile at the sight of his smirk, she felt some of her nerves ease. So he wasn't completely made of stone. That was a good sign. At the last, her eyes widened, shaking her head. "I-I can't ask that much from anyone. Especially a stranger, I've caused you enough trouble tonight. I'm pretty sure I can get at least one more day's extension, that will give me a chance to get my spare memory card and find a story to cover." She had already extended three days, and the owner of her apartment was getting testy. Hopefully she wouldn't be made into a liar, but taking money she didn't earn bothered her even more.
