He listened, nodding slowly before tiliting his head at the last. Giving a soft hum, he pushed his hair back from his face, slicking it back with long fingers. "You really care about him, don't you?"

"I wouldn't have put myself in this kind of trouble if I didn't." She reminded him with a weak chuckle. "He's...the only family I have. Before you, he was all I really had in the world...and he only comes by when he's in trouble."

"Does it worry you that he's not here? I mean...would you like to contact him?" He watched her, wondering if her brother was someone she still wanted in her life or not. As he heard the last, he looked at her in surprise. "Before me?" Did that mean she saw him as a brother...? That thought made him sick.

"It used to...now I'm not as bothered by it. Is that cruel?" She gave a weak smile, shaking her head. "He only sees me when he needs me. Sometimes I wonder...if he cares about me at all. Or if I'm just a security net." Expression softening at the last, she ducked her head, hair falling into her eyes. "...Yeah. I'm not kidding when I say you're the best thing that ever happened to me. Before this, I just worked, came home, and killed time until I had to work again. Waiting until I was needed again. Now I'm...smiling, laughing, enjoying what I'm doing. I feel more alive than I have in years." She couldn't hide the fondness in her voice, looking back to him with a warmer smile. "I wouldn't be doing any of this without you."

Thinking over her words for a long moment, he offered a small smile. "So..is this what you wish your brother would be like? Someone that would make you smile, laugh, enjoy yourself?"

"You?" She asked, surprised by the question. Did he see her as more of a sister after all? Shaking her head, she added, "Well...yes and no. Please don't take this as an insult, but I don't think I could see you as a brother, Yongguk." There was no sense in lying, after all. He could live with that, she thought, right? There were plenty of friends in the world that didn't cross the border from the possibility of attraction to familial love.

He looked at her, feeling his worry ease a little. After a moment, he smiled. "I see. You only see me as a man." With a wink, clearly joking, he laughed, tanding to gather their dishes and bring them to the sink. "Would you like to see your brother?"

"It's hard not to, if I'm being totally honest." She admitted, hoping her light tone would keep the secret from being too awkward to disclose. Thanking him as he stood, she thought his question over. "After he almost got me killed to dodge his debts? I'd probably kill him myself if I did."

Not quite catching what she'd said about him being a man, he smiled, humming softly as he began to wash them. "You don't miss him at all? What if he came back to apologize?"

"I don't think I would believe him. Not completely. He does it every time he's in trouble. He can't pay his debts or he pisses off the wrong person and he just...comes home, cries to me, and expects me to let him stay here, live off of me until he doesn't want to be sober anymore, and he goes out into the city again." Standing as she heard the water running, she added, "I can get those, you don't have to clean."

"what if he left to repay his debts and make money to pay you back? What if he has turned around and he's a good person? Would you still not believe him?" As she stood, he picked up a spoon ad pointed it at her. "Sit down. I got this."

"I would want to believe him...but it would take time." She said after a moment. "He's my brother, my only family...but he's done this too many times for me not to be suspicious." Seeing him brandish the spoon, she held up her hands in surrender, laughing softly. "Yes, sir. But if you want help drying those dishes, I can."

"I've got it. You've been working all day." He smiled, pointing to the couch again. "Sit." As he turne his gaze back to the dishes, he smiled again. "Maybe you and your brother will work things out someday."

"Yes, sir." She repeated with a laugh, moving to resume her seat. At the last, she hummed thoughtfully. "I hope so. I know that a lot of his behavior is my fault...after Mom died, I just...started taking care of him. I wanted to make sure he had everything he needed, and I turned a blind eye when he got into the darker side of the city looking for more money. I should have stopped him when I had my first suspicions."

Smiling, he continued to wash the dishes. "You can't blame yourself for the way he turned out. You don't control his decisions." He shook his head, smiling again. "If you had stopped him, it would have just taken longer for him to end up exactly where he is now."

"Yeah, maybe..." She sighed, leaning back against the armrest. "Maybe if he'd had someone like you looking after him, he'd have his life together..." She added without thinking, too lost to her musings to realize she had spoken aloud.

"You think I have my life together? I'm a murdering, money-crazy mob-boss." He raised a brow, looking up at her curiously.

"With a good heart and enough intelligence to keep out of the trouble he got into." She pointed out, shrugging with an easygoing smile. "You don't owe anything to loan sharks--hell, you own the loan sharks. His trouble and your trouble are in two different leagues."

"I was in that trouble in the beginning. I wasn't always together and I didn't always have a good heart. I'm not entirely convinced I have a good heart now at all." He shook his head with a soft laugh, drying the dishes he'd just washed. "I don't owe anything now, but I used to. his trouble and my trouble used to be the same."

"You do. To the people that matter to you." She assured him, watching him as he worked. Seeing him like this was strangely...domestic, she found. It was comfortable in a way she didn't expect. In a way she would imagine to be more common for couples than friends. "Maybe that's what would have helped him, if he would have listened. You got out of it." After a moment, she shook her head. "But you're right...I should stop worrying about it. He'll figure out that he has to fix himself when he comes back and finds this place empty."
