The Quarry
NoWealthNoRuin HK's Territory
Once used for mining limestone in days long past, it's now a place frequented by Hakyeon's rougher "brothers" for interrogation purposes.

"You're...kinder than I thought you would be." She commented without thinking, brushing her bangs out of her eyes. After a moment, she let out a slow breath, nodding. "Um...yeah. Sure, I would appreciate that."

"YOu thought I'd be cruel?" It made sense, he supposed. But that didn't bother him any less. As she nodded, he pulled out his wallet, flipping through several cards and pulling three out. One was a doctor he'd seen after he'd made his first kill, one was a doctor he'd seen when he'd taken over and started runnign more of the city. The last was one of his men, not a professional doctor, but with a degree, someone who had helped him more than anyone else had. "Here. All three of them are trustworthy..and they'll help. The last...he's one of mine, so if you don't want anything to do with my men, you might not want to see him. There's a chance you may run into me at his office."

"Your first impression didn't help any." She was teasing now, a small smirk on her lips as she looked the names over, lingering on the last. "Maybe seeing one of your men might be a good idea..." She mumbled, unaware that she was speaking aloud. "Understanding more about what happened, how things work...might help me accept it more easily."

As he heard the first, he looked at her, shocked that she'd teased him at all. Was she...serious? Unable to hold back a very small smile, her aised a brow. He was aobut to speak, to comment on the joke before he heard the last. Eyes meeting hers, brow furrowing, he gave a soft hum. ">..I thought you'd avoid him like the plague."

"People are the most afraid of things they don't understand." She shrugged lightly, knowing her logic must sound insane to most rational minds. He must think that she was nuts. "I'm in the business of information...seeing how things are on your side should help me see why things happened the way that they did. Putting enough logic in front of the fear has stopped any other nightmare I've had...why should this be any different?"

As he listened, taking in her words, her logic, he nodded slowly. After a long moment, thinking her words over, he cleared his throat. "I don't...offer this to anyone. In fact I've...I've neveroffered this to anyone...but if it's information you need, if it's understanding and learning why...you can call the number on the first card I gave you. It's my cell-phone number. We can meet up somewhere else, somwhere public...and I'll answer any questinos you may have."

The offer left her speechless for a moment, fumbling for something to say. He was offering to help her? What was the catch? Why would he care about someone so inconsequential? "That's...you don't...you don't have to go to so much trouble, Mr. Cha." She managed at last. Though the thought of getting the best point of view she could was more fascinating than she wanted to admit. "I've already caused you a lot of trouble."

"It's not a trouble." He frowned slightly, still certian she'd deny him, she'd run to the furthest person she could find from him and his work. After a moment, he cleared his throat. "I have someone I'm meeting for lunch...but if you decide you've changed your mind, that you want to meet me, you know how to find me."

"Right." She had taken up more time than she had expected, surprised that he had spoken to her for so long. "Um...thank you, Mr. Cha. For this and...what you did before." He had saved her life, after all.

He had been about to turn away, to go meet his lunch meeting before he heard the last, he froze. His eyesmoved back to the girl again, confusion clear in his face as he tilted his head. "For..what I did before? I haven't done anything to thank me for."

"You scared the shit out of me, but if it weren't for you, those guys probably would have killed me." He had no reason to lie about that, after all. "It wasn't the best first impression, but...at least I lived for a second one, right?" She gave a weak smile, trying to see the bright side now that she knew both halves of the situation.

He frowned, thinking her words over for a long moment before clearing his throat. "So...you...you're thanking me for saving your life, even though I scared you half to death? You're thanking me...for giving you a second impression of me?"

"I try to look on the bright side." She shrugged lightly, brushing her hair out of her face. "I mean...I'd rather be uncomfortable than dead. You did a lot for me, all things considered."

"And thanking the man that traumatized you is the bright side?" He gave a small smile, shaking his head in obvious surprise and disbelief.

"Better than being killed and left in a ditch." She shrugged once again, giving a soft nervous laugh. "I know it...probably doesn't make sense."

"I...suppose that's true." He nodded, still watching the girl in obvious surprise. "You...are not what I expected."

"What did you expect?" She tilted her head, wondering if she caught him off-guard after all. Was it really so unusual to be grateful for something like this?

"Something....more afraid, something more...angry." He shrugged slightly, looking up at the girl for a moment before giving a soft hum. "You're just...different than I expected."

"I've got no misconception about how dangerous you are." She assured him, shaking her head. "And this politeness could turn nasty at the push of a button if I'm not careful. But I'm not going to let my opinion of what happened cloud the fact that what you did was good for me, in a way. The truth is my line of work...all sides of it."

"No misconception. That's a good thing." He nodded slightly. After a moment, he turned to face er a little more fully. "So what you're saying is...thank you for not killing you?"
