The Quarry
NoWealthNoRuin
Once used for mining limestone in days long past, it's now a place frequented by Hakyeon's rougher "brothers" for interrogation purposes.

Kang Nari shifted a little in the cool night, wishing that the marks she was waiting for would show up already so that she could go home. Being a journalist in Seoul meant there was no shortage of fuel for a good story, but hopefully this would be the scoop that took her from tabloid rumors to a real news team--the job of her dreams. If only the people she had been told of would show up to the remote quarry, far from the lights of the city, to negotiate for what could be the biggest drug deal of the year. She shifted on the dark outcrop over the bottom of the ravine where they were to meet, camera hanging around her neck as she pulled her jacket closer around her. A few more hours, she told herself firmly. Just a few more hours and she could go home and rest.

Hakyeon had been told about a drug ring, an unapproved drug ring in his district...and he was tired of the boys already. Sending his two right hands in to track them down, they were brought to the quarry. And as his two men threw the drug dealers to the ground, Hakyeon stepped out of the shadows, hand in his pocket, suit finely tailored and hair slicked back. HIs eyes fell on the men on the ground as he frowned. After a few hushed statements, he watched as his two removed their guns from their holsters and aimed at the back of each of the other men's heads.

As the car pulled up, she readied her camera, quietly snapping pictures of what she assumed would be the drug exchange. As the men in suits threw the shabbier-looking dealers to the ground, beating them before drawing their guns, her blood ran cold, freezing as she realized that this was very far from what she was expecting. The light from her phone would give her away, she thought, and attempting to run would bring attention to her as she would need to stand from her laying position on the ridge to clamber back toward her car hidden on one of the back roads into the quarry. As she weighed her options, the camera slipped from her trembling fingers, clattering against the rock before she caught it again, praying that they were too far away to hear the noise. If blood was going to spill tonight, she needed to live to tell the tale.

As Hakyeon continued to speak ina quiet voice, he heart the soft sound of the camera clatter. One of his men was already on their way to find the rat he'd known was hiding out here. Once the journalist was found, they could continue on with their night. All he had to do was wait.

It didn't take long for Changbin to find the girl, especially after he heard the camera fall. As he approached in near-perfect silence, he reached out, gripping the back of her shirt and pulling her to her feet, hands catching her wrists before she could walk and tying them tightly together. "Boss wants to see you. I suggest you be extra nice..." As he brought her back down to where the meeting was taking place, he tossed the girl onto the ground before Hakyeon as well, cocking his own gun and leaving the barrel against the back of her skull.

She shouted, swore, fought, struggled as hard as she could as she felt her attacker move her toward the bottom of the quarry. As she hit the ground, she tried to get up, struggling to right herself without the aid of her hands. As she felt the cold metal press against her head, she froze, realizing just how much trouble she had gotten into. "P...please..." She managed at last. "I'm...I'm sorry, I wasn't...I didn't mean to do anything wrong..."

Hakyeon waited for the girl to quiet down before he saw the gun. Riasiing a brow, wondering if the gun was necessary to threaten the girl, he cocked his head to the side slightly, watching her like a snake watched a mouse. His eyes narrowed slightly. "...Where's your camera?"

Managing to sit up at last, she looked up to the man and wondered just what the hell she had gotten into. At the question, spoken with a voice much softer and smoother than she expected, she pulled the camera from around her neck, offering it to him. "I'm...I'm a j-journalist." She tried, voice shaking. "I was...was just s-supposed to watch the drug deal...I didn't...I didn't mean any t-trouble..."

TAking the camera from her hands, he flipped through a couple of the pictures, pictures that had his face...With a small frown, he passed the camera back to one of his bodyguards before turning his attention back to the girl. "You really shouldn't involve yourself in things like this, journalist or not. It'll get you killed." He heard the cock of the gun at her head and raised a brow. He hadn't been threatening her..why was his men so trigger happy?

She jumped at the sound, shaking doubling as she tried to speak through her tremors. "Y-yes, sir...I'll be more careful...I won't say a word to anyone, I promise. I swear." Would they kill her after all? She had done all that they asked. The man before her seemed calm, though she couldn't read his face. Was he upset enough to kill her? Bored enough? No one would find her, she was sure, in such a remote place. It seemed they were no strangers to work like this...

He looked up at him, cocking his head slightly, still giving off a very snake-like impression before he spoke again. "I am assuming you're intent to join her if you pull that trigger before I give the order." Watching his man's face pale over, he heard the click as the hammer was released again. He looked back at the girl. She was afraid...but not afraid enough. She needed to understand how dangerous these situations were. Looking back at the other two, he nodded at his men, hearing the gunshot echo, blood splattering on the ground as two bodies slumped to the ground. Cold eyes turning back to the woman, he raised a brow. "I suggest you forget this..."

She nearly relaxed, letting out a slow sigh as she heard the hammer of the gun behind her, before the man gave the order to kill the others. She paled as she saw the figures fall to the ground, the blood from the man nearest to her splattering over her clothes. Sure that her heart would pound through her chest, she looked from the corpse at her side to the man that had given the order, unsure of what to think, what to say. At last, she nodded dumbly, hair falling into her eyes. "Y-ye....yes, sir..."

Waving his hand, slender fingers gesturing to the girl, giving a silent order to let her go, he watched his guard behind him set the camera on the ground and blow three holes into it with his own gun. When het urned back to the girl, he reached out, gripping her arm with gentle fingers and pulling her to her feet, sure her knees must be trembling. "...Forget my face, forget all of this...or rest assured that I will find you."

Jumping once again at the sound of gunfire, she looked to the remains of her camera--her only one, her mind offered uselessly--and mumbled something about how she could have given him the SD card instead before shaking her head. Her life was worth more than her job. Nodding at his demands, she swallowed hard as her throat ran dry, struggling to remain standing. She would be lucky to get back to her car, much less drive home. "I'll...I'll say that...that the deal never happened. That they were t-tipped off or...or something..."

Tiliting his head, he smirked. "You think I'm not aware that journalists back up their images almost immediately? Im' sure ou have them elsewhere, too." Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his wallet, thumbing through several bills, enough to buy her a camera twice as good as the other and at least two cab rides as he was sure she wouldn't be walking this night and she'd need to get her car in the morning. Reaching down to take her hand and put the money inside, folding her fingers over the money and a business card, he looked down at her. "...call this number..if you feel the need to see a psychiatrist as well, the funds will be taken care of." With that, he relased her hand and gestured to his men to begin clean up before making his way back toward his car.

"I work for a tabloid, I couldn't--" She broke off as she watched him move, eyes widening at the amount of money he had given her. Looking down at the bills, eyes moving over the business card as the men around her moved to silently clean the mess they had made, she managed at last. "I...what...who the hell are you?"

With a smirk, he gave a small wave, knowin she'd recognize the name on the card as soon as she saw it. Climbing into the back of his car, he waited for his men to finish, for his driver to return, fingers tapping out a soft beat on the side of his seat.

Nearly a week had passed since that night, and Nari had tried her hardest to forget all about it as she had been told. But seeing the faces of the men killed in front of her every night as she slept made it an impossible feat. She was losing sleep, getting sloppy in her work, and decided that the best thing to do would be to take the cut in pay and take a few days off to gather her wits. Going to the library was her favorite way to get away from the world, wandering through the quiet shelves and looking over titles both familiar and new. Lost in the fiction section, she felt her frayed nerves start to ease, pulling a half-interesting title free from the rest to read the summary.

Hakyeon had been in the Library, reading quietly, enjoying his time off from the pressures of running the city, glad for the casual sweater and glasses perched on his nose. He had been in the process of standing, moving to find a new book as he finished his own when he saw a much smaller woman drop a book onto the ground. Approaching her, he stooped low, head bowed to let slender fingers wrap around the book. "You dropped this, miss."

Hearing the soft, faintly familiar voice speak to her, she smiled, turning to take the book from the stranger before realizing that she knew this face. The man that had threatened her a week before, the man that had the entirety of the city's criminals in his thrall. She had researched as much as she could that night, going off of the name she had seen on the business card...what the hell was he doing here? "I...it...it's you."

He tilted his head, brow furrowing for a moment before he realized who the girl was. He wondered often over the last week if she'd slept well, if she'd told anyone what she'd seen that night, if she'd gone to see a shrink after the events. After a moment, hearing her words, he gave a small smirk. "...I told you to forget my face."
