Kang Hyung Joon was a survivor in every sense of the word. From the start of his life--or rather, the start of the life he left behind--he had known nothing but pain. All he really remembered of those fourteen years was that his mother was the only one in his life...until she wasn't. His mother was the mistress of a powerful man that had died...and the elder son from a previous marriage had wanted to kill them both for the inheritance left to them. His mother was dead...and all he had to remember her by was a necklace he had been given...and a heavy limp from the day everything went wrong. But he didn't want to think about that now. He was a stronger man now. Powerful. He had made a name for himself with several careful investments and business ventures, and now, setting foot in Seoul for the first time in almost fifteen years, he was a different man entirely. His past didn't lie here anymore. And his future was nothing but bright. He smiled as he enjoyed the first warmer day of winter, walking slowly through the market set up by the river. No one really paid much attention to him as he went, dressed nicely but casually, cane in hand. He hummed a gentle tune as he walked, taking in the sights and sounds of a city he had nearly forgotten.

Lee Sooyeon had been living on her own for fourteen years. After she'd been kidnapped, tortured, raped, and left by the boy she'd fallen in love with, she had run away, lived in hiding. She never wanted to see her mother, her school, even Han Jungwoo again. But living on her own at fifteen had meant she had to survive using any means necessary. She had done all kinds of odd jobs, borrowed money, did some things that were slightly illegal... In fact, while she worked the little booth by the river, she had a bruise under her right eye, a split lip, a couple of cuts on her cheek...she hadn't paid back the money in enough time. With auburn hair curling to hide one eye, she gave her only customer of the day a small bow and a soft thanks before she looked down at the rest of her scarves and hats she was trying to sell. She wished she could design...she'd always wanted to...

At the end of the row of booths, he saw a small table filled with colorful accessories. Many were passing her by without a second glance... Pausing in front of the table to look over the scarves, he let his fingers brush over the soft fabric with a small smile. They were good quality for a place like this. And the weather would soon turn cold again... "Which do you think I should get?" He asked the woman behind the counter, lifting his eyes to see her. She was young, he saw, and startlingly pretty. But he couldn't miss the split in her lip, and the very edge of a cut on the curve of her cheek. Something about this seemed...off.

Hearing the voice, she flushed softly. Her hats and scarves were more geared toward women, why would ne want one...unless he was buying for a girlfriend? She lifted her gaze up to his and her lips parted slightly in shock at the beauty in front of her. "Ah...are you...are you sure you want one, ahjussi? I mean..there's a booth down there with more masculine designs..." It hrut to talk...everything hurt. Her whole body ached...and she still owed the damn money.

"Theirs didn't catch my eye. And the material didn't feel comfortable...I like yours more." He offered with a soft smile, seeing her hesitance in the way she spoke. "But I'm bad at finding things that are stylish...you look like you know better than I ever would." He added with a self-conscious chuckle. "Would any of these suit me?"

As she heard him insist on her design, she thought for a long moment on how to answer him. After amoment, she reached for he corner of the table, pulling out a sketchbook. Her gaze moved to his again, looking over him for a moment before sketching the outfit he wore and adding a scarf to the design that fit him more than the ones on her table. The color was a dark blue, navy to compliment the caramel of his eyes. It ws lined in simple silver pinstripes, just long enough to wrap around him twice. When she was finished, she turned the book to face him so he could see the design. "...something like this."

Unable to hide his curiosity as he watched her work, his eyes lit up as he saw the finished sketch. "You...drew that so fast..." He said at last, meeting her eyes once again. "You're really good. Would I be able to commission that from you? It's perfect; I don't care about the price."

Surprised to see what almost looked like shock, like he was impressed, she looked down at the sketch again. He wanted her to make this? He didn't care about the price...? "I'm...I could make it. It would take me a couple of hours when I get home and I'm here until sundown..." He really liked it that much? "But...really, you could go to another designer, someone well-known and request something like this just as easily. My things are...I mean...they're...I'm just an amateur." But she'd always wanted to design. As she looked up at him again, her hair shifted a little to reveal the dark bruise under her eye. "They'd be more expensive, but you'd have the brand name that comes with them."

"Amateur? I don't believe that. You put a lot of care into your work and it shows. You use good material and you make sure it's something that won't wear out in a few weeks. You care about what you do, am I right?" He raised an eyebrow at her attempts to get him to choose another designer. "I'd rather know my money was going toward someone with skill and heart in what they do. I can come by again tomorrow, will that be enough time?"

"I, yes..I care about what I do. I...when I was in school I was always designing." But when she ran away she hadnt been able to go back to school... She'd had no time but to work constantly. As a car drove by, she flinched as if expecting it to stop, to pull over before she forced herself to relax again. "It's...kind of been a dream of mine. I..I don't really know why I told you that." Her cheeks flushed softly and she gave a small laugh before wincing once again at the pain she felt at the pull in her lip. "Tomorrow will be perfect. I'll make sure it's finished for you."

"Have you considered doing this as a living? Making more than just accessories, I mean. You were able to sketch my outfit perfectly...I'm sure you've had bigger ideas than scarves." Seeing her flinch, he frowned, bending a little to speak without being heard by the next booth over. "Miss...I know this isn't my business...but do you need any help? Those bruises...and how jumpy you are...has someone hurt you?"

"I...actually really want to, to be honest. It's my goal to have my own clothing line some day. I...really want to get out there, to make clothes, to travel all over." REalizing she was talking too much again, her cheeks flushed once more. As he bent, as he spoke lower, she finally lifted her head for the first time, giving him the first clear view of her face, hair no longer hiding half of her face as it had when she was achild. She looked at him, met his gaze, heart pounding, stomach twisting. I'm...I'm fine. I don't need any help, no." why would this stranger even ask things like this? Was he from Korea? Did he understand how people treated each other, treated people like her here? "No one hurt me. I'm clumsy, that's all. don't worry, I'm alright."

"That's...pretty clumsy, miss..." His tone showed his disbelief, humming softly before brightening a little. "You know...I'm really awful at finding clothes stylish enough for my job. It's starting to turn into a real problem...maybe you could help me? I recently moved here from France and I don't know what business to shop with, what the current styles are..." He gave a soft, shy laugh, the act well-practiced. He knew he seemed every bit like the shy foreigner--even his Korean had a tinge of an accent after his years abroad.

"Clumsy..." She nodded, hoping he wouldn't keep asking questions. God, she hated people paying attention to her isntead of her work. As he brightened, she looked up at him again, hair blowing over her eyes just as it had as a child. "You seem to be doing a pretty good job of finding decent clothes to me. You're wearing all designer...." She pointed out ertain pieces of his wardrobe and named them and the collection they belonged to. As her eyes got to the cane, she raised a brow before looking up at him again. "Well...everything looks good but that cane." She was about to say something else before her brow furrowed. "France? You're from France?" That explained his actions, his words toward her.

Something about this was so familiar. The way she spoke, the way she carried herself...he'd seen it before. "This is...thanks to a woman I pestered in a shop this morning. Believe me, I'm a mess." He laughed softly, shaking his head. At the last, he raised an eyebrow. "My cane? I had to get it replaced recently; it's from the hospital. I'd like something nicer..." Then, after a moment, he smiled brightly. "I grew up there. Well, since I was pretty young. Thirteen, I think. This is my first time back in the country in longer than I can remember."

As she looked at the cane, listening to his words, she nodded. After a moment, she moved her gaze to his, almost as if she was afraid to look at him. "So why not ask that woman? Or...I could show you good places to shop, places you'll enjoy the clothes, clothes that would look good on you. Or, if money isn't an issue as you claim, you could hire a designer to design things specifically to you." Her eyes moved to the cane again. "it's...just...it doesn't work well with you. Maybe...maybe something simple, but elegant. Silver."

"Or I could hire you. Give you a chance to see what your skills can do for a hopeless case like me." He offered before hearing the last. "Silver...I've always liked silver. See, you're already helping. Oh," Remembering himself, he held a hand out to her, adding, "Forgive me, I'm being rude. I'm Harry Borrison."

A part of her wonderd if maybe he was just being kind to her, he was just being polite. But that didn't explain why he was being so insistent on thaving her design for him. "You really trust me to design a wardrobe that will look good? All you've seen are my scarves..." As he held out his hand, she eyed it for a moment, unable to hold back as mall bit of suspicion before she grasped his hand. "I'm Zoey. Zoey Lou." It was a name she'd taken on after she fled fourteen years ago. She wasn't Lee Sooyeon. Not anymore."

"I didn't expect to hear a name like yours so far from home." He pointed out, brightening a little at the familiarity. It sounded as fake as his own. Something struck him as odd about this. Still so familiar... "Do you have more designs I could see? To help me decide?"

Biting her lip, she glanced down at her sketchbook. "I mean...they aren't outfits fit to your tastes, but you can see what I've designed...for others I've seen." Flushing softly, she picked up the book and held it out to him. "This is my portfolio. There's men's designs, women's, children...accessories. I just really like designing."
