Screamo is a genre of music which predominantly evolved from hardcore punk, among other genres, in the early 1990s. The term "screamo" was initially applied to a more aggressive offshoot of emo that developed in San Diego in 1991, which used short, chaotically executed songs which grafted "spastic intensity to willfully experimental dissonance and dynamics," often with a political message.

Is it just me, or are all Screamo band pictures taken from the same angle?
Anyway, Lion of the North: yay or nay? In I Am Orion you can hear the faint sound of someone singing in the backround. It's kinda strange but also enticing.
I like Portraits of Past.. That's about it. I also like Alexisonfire on the not-screamo list.
It'a an okay genre. 99% of non-screamo screaming bands just suck ass though. All and all, I'd rather listen to something else.
They (Alexisonfire) really can't count as screamo anyway. They haven't screamed since after the second album. I like their newer stuff but I have to say - their older work is 10x better.

Screamo is amazing, no matter what you say you cant change my mind AND THANK YOU FOR ClAIRFYING WHAT REAL SCREAMO IS i love alot of those examples too, but it gets annoying when people think theyre screamo. i <3 cancer bats, as i lay dying, circle takes the square.

Now the ones u said arent, I like, most anyway, especially Alesana. I always knew they were "post-agressive hardcore" or whatever... but I would choose awesome screaming/growling with singing over... "straight 'screamo'" tht u just listed... yepp.

Did you even listen to the bands that you didn't know, or are you just purposely avoiding them because you like the other stuff better?
There's no such thing as "post-aggressive-hardcore". You're thinking of post-hardcore. Also, I like a fair few of the bands under the not-screamo list, but yeah.

Okay so I was about to start throwing cuss words around because I read "Not fucking screamo" as "fucking screamo". Anyways, glad i'm wrong, here's my contribution.
i enjoy listening to screamo. im surprised people consider hawthorne heights screamo. that made me laugh. i personally think they're pop-punk. they have a poppy sound with guitars,etc. i dunno...i could be wrong but oh well. even though atreyu isnt consider screamo i still enjoy them. they were awesome when i saw them last month. but that list was a real eye opener and nice to know i learned something new at 5am.
