I tore through Perdido Street Station a couple months ago and it became my absolute favorite book. It was so goddamn refreshing, and his metaphors just blew me away. I love everything about that book. I know hes written quite a few books actually, so I was just curious if any of you have read them and which ones you would recommend I pick up next?
I have only read the three Bas-lag novels (Perdido Street Station, The Scar and Iron Council). They're all great, but all very different to each other. The Scar is a sea-faring epic, while Iron Council is basically a Western.
The Bas-Lag trio are the best of the lot, Alex. The short story collection Looking for Jake is good too. King Rat, Un-Lun-Dun, and Kraken are okay. The City & The City and Embassytown both sucked.
Liked Kraken, like The City & The City and that's it. because his books swap between sometime vastly different settings and even the writing style changes. It's down to personal taste.

Jayne: "These are stone killers, little man. They ain't cuddly like me."
Harrow: "You didn't have to wound the man."
Mal: "Yeah, I know, it was just funny."
Personally I liked Embassytown. Took me a bit to take in the writing style (which I hated in the beginning), but after a while I got rather used to it.
