Our cat had kittens about 2 weeks ago. This is her second litter the first was only 3 kitten and none survived passed 2 days because the mom cat didn't take care of them. This time there are 4 or 5 kittens now 2 weeks old they have their eyes open and seem healthy. The major problem is she had the kittens behind a desk in another room so we can't really see them and make sure she's taking care of them. My boyfriend says we shouldn't try moving the desk or touch the kittens because she'll try moving them or even disown them. She's actually somewhat protective of this litter and we are hoping they survive so I would really like some advice from other cat owners or breeders like, when can we start handling the kittens and checking up on them without the Momma disowning them? When do we start feeding them kitten food? Any other advice would be awesome. I tried to google search but like I said this cat is weird :-/

If they've made it this far, chances are she's caring for them. And all cats are different. At this point, if she does disown them, they should survive just fine if you feed them the kitten milk for a while before giving them kibble. But see if she won't let you just pet them where they are. Your scent is not going to deter her from caring for them, but she might be way over protective of you holding them so she might get pissed at you and move them somewhere else.

Pretty much what Lyss said. And you should be feeding the momma cat kitten food already. Go for the canned stuff, and they'll start investigating it on their own. Typically they'll start at around 4-5 weeks, as mom starts producing less milk/tolerating them nursing less.
