One late night in a college dorm, four socially inept geeks immerse themselves in a fantasy world of their own creation. As their characters journey through forbidden kingdoms, ancient ruins, and the forsaken wilderness, the players attempt to solve a mysterious puzzle that could ultimately mean the difference between getting a life and death. Who is The Shadow? Where is The Princess hidden? Will any of them ever find a date? And how long do they have before their annoyed neighbors call the cops?
All Lodge wants is for his gaming group to finish their adventure. Unfortunately, they’re more interested in seducing barmaids, mooning their enemies, and setting random villagers on fire. Desperate to rein in his players, Lodge injects two newbies into the distrust: a non-player character controlled by Lodge, who the power gamers immediately distrust, and the rarest gamer of all — a girl. Can the group overcome their bickering to save the kingdom, or will the evil necromancer Mort Kemnon triumph unopposed? A parody of fantasy films and the adventure gaming community, The Gamers: Dorkness Rising is a hilarious romp through the world of sword and sorcery — in this case, a world of exploding peasants, giant house cats, and undead roast turkeys. Game on!
Lodge, Joanna, and the rest of the group are back for an all-new adventure. They've reached the final showdown with their arch-nemesis, The Shadow, when the phone rings...
Since it's almost time for the push for The Gamers: Hands of Fate (Gamers3) movie to kick off, I figured it was time to resurrect my long since dead thread.
The Gamers: Hands of Fate Kickstarter
Goes Up In Less Than 2 Days!
They also have a current Kickstarter for a game module based on Dorkness Rising, called The Mask of Death.
It's already funded, but there's still about 2 days left on it if you still want to pledge.
And you can even still get the gloriously funny Mound of Dead Bards miniture!
The Quest for the Mask of Death begins in the city of Whitetower. Despite the occasional goblin incursion, the lands around Whitetower have known peace and prosperity under the reign of King Erasmus the Randomly Biased. This relative calm is shattered by the news of a powerful artifact falling into the hands of a wicked necromancer named Mort Kemnon. Kemnon has sworn to bring low the king and transform the land into a twisted reflection of his own evil god, Death himself...
About the Module
Based on cult hit The Gamers: Dorkness Rising, this new roleplaying adventure module expands on the story of the film with an expanded adventure into the world of Fartherall. Play the characters from Dorkness Rising or your own party as you face a Goblin Totem, devious Priests, a miniature Death Demon, and even the mysterious artifact known only as the Mask of Death.
Compatible with the Pathfinder roleplaying system, the print version of the 48-page module will have a color cover, black-and-white interior, and traditional saddle stitching for the classic RPG module look and feel. The PDF version will feature a color cover and color interior.
We need just a little more time to get the Gamers 3 Kickstarter ready and not miss Thursday's JourneyQuest release date.
We'll do our best to keep you entertained in the meantime, most likely with videos of Matt Vancil's Russian potato dance.
Tomorrow is your last day to pledge for the Mask of Death module. (We're reminding you about this now because tomorrow your world will be consumed by JourneyQuest!)
(Our video upload to Kickstarter has failed twice. While we try a third time, please enjoy the latest episode of JourneyQuest as an example of the quality of work we're currently doing. Official video should be live by 10 PM PST.)
About this project
In The Gamers: Hands of Fate, the cast of internationally acclaimed The Gamers: Dorkness Rising returns for another dice-hurling, waffle-devouring, GM-infuriating romp through worlds of sword, sorcery, and surrealism. In Hands of Fate, the gamers must expand their horizons past pen-and-paper RPGs to explore two whole new realms of geekdom – Collectible Card Games (CCGs) and game convention life – and face off against their arch-nemesis: The Shadow!
What is The Gamers?
From its inception in 2001 in a college dorm basement, the oft-quoted and genre-inspiring The Gamers went on to become a viral online hit in the years before YouTube and is used to this day by role-playing gamers to show why they love gaming. Still beloved after over a decade, The Gamers is considered required viewing in RPG circles worldwide. Its sequel, The Gamers: Dorkness Rising, is a feature film released in 2008 that exploded over Netflix and Amazon. It expanded the world of The Gamers, took an in-depth look at the lives and loves of gamers away from the table, and forever answered that age-old question: who would win in a fight, pirates or ninjas*? Since 2008, Gamers fans has been clamoring for another installment in the series.
What is The Gamers: Hands of Fate?
A feature film set several years after the events of Dorkness Rising, this film follows Lodge, Joanna, Cass, Gary, and Leo to Gen Con Indy, the best four days in gaming, to spend four days gaming. It’s an ambitious project that we couldn’t have made until now!
In fact, we’re shooting much of the film at Gen Con Indy in August of 2012 – while this Kickstarter campaign is running – in order to capture crucial footage we can only get at the convention itself.
Following the conclusion of the campaign, we will move into preproduction for the rest of the shoot in October and November of 2012, then spend many months in post-production for an online release and premiere at Gen Con Indy in August 2013.
Amazing first twenty-four hours, everyone! Thank you all for your early and enthusiastic support!
We still have a long way to go, but with 15% of our goal achieved in a single day, we're confident that we'll make it.
Next up we'll be updating our FAQ with answers to many of the questions you've been asking. We're also working on interviews and media to help get the word out. If there's anybody who you want to see covering this project, please let us know!
We have many more awesome things planned for the duration of this campaign, including the release of eight more JourneyQuest episodes, all of the events at Gen Con Indy, a final push at PAX Prime, and various online surprises, but for now, thanks again and we'll have more awesomesauce for you soon.
(Pro Tip: when we release new limited rewards for the Hands of Fate kickstarter, sometimes people switch to the new ones and desired sold-out rewards open up.
If you missed out on a dice bag or screen-featured CCG card, a couple are there for the grabbing.)
We're really excited about how far we've come since the days of the original Gamers film: from a one-chip miniDV camera to shooting in 1080p HD with a professional crew and gear. If you haven't yet, we'd encourage you to take a look at JourneyQuest, our current show, not just because it's awesome, but we want you to see the difference that having a budget makes. This new season is beautiful and epic and, while we can't show you Hands of Fate yet (we still have to raise the money and shoot it!), we can show you what you can expect from our incredible troupe, the cast and crew who turn Matt Vancil's words into moving pictures on the screen.
As several fans have commented, "You guys really went big this season!"
It's true—and it's because everyone's support on our JourneyQuest Kickstarter made it possible. We can't wait to do the same for Hands of Fate!
Ben here: was jotting notes on the end of the Gamers 3 script and suddenly realized that I'd diagrammed spoilers on paper for Gamers 3, Gamers 4, Hopjockey, JourneyQuest, and Demon Hunters. No, you can't see the page.

We still have a ways to go yet though.
And it's slowing down after the initial "everybody jump in" phase.
DAY 8
$111,808
We're still slowing down.
However, still accomplishing about $6k a day, which is still good.
They added another $100 reward, though it's not as good as the others.
