I'm curious about attempting to install Mac OS X on a PC laptop. I have a degree in computer science, so I don't need basic descriptions of how to do it, I just want to know what potential pitfalls or problems I could encounter with it. I'm currently running Linux on my laptop and Windows 7 on my desktop, but I'm going to be starting music school and my school teaches music technologies in a Mac environment, so I would like to familiarize myself with it without having to purchase a new computer.
Has anybody ever installed Mac OS X on a PC personally (I've seen the Youtube videos and read the tutorials, but I want to know if any of you have ever successfully done it)? What potential problems could I face? Can I use a retail copy of Mac OS for the install or do I need a special hack version or hacked software to accomplish this?
I had to use OS X installed in a VM to accomplish it because at that time many of the tools required were Mac only. Thought that was retarded, things may have changed.
It worked well enough, but there's definitely quirks and at that time the hardware support wasn't complete. Ended up scrapping it.
