seriously alot of good bands came of grunge i mean come on nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden, alice in chains seriously why hasnt anyone tried to bring it back???
Because the type of people who idolise and immitate Kurt Cobain and I knew quite a few back in the day are hopeless, useless cunts, typically potheads, how are your average Kurt Cobain, op shop shopping, pothead, waestrals going to net the necessary contacts to make it big in the music industry.
Oh wow!....bar chords, feedback overload and vocal styles that imitate the mentally challenged with added speaking impediments.
The other so called grunge bands you mention are simply 70s rock with modern studio recordings.
Grunge fucking sucks. Most of the girls in highschool who liked Grunge bands, only got into it because Nirvana and Silverchair were mentioned heaps in the assorted teen magazines like Girlfriend the Australian publication.
Horay for postpunk garageband sounding barchords, shitty beats, speech impediment vocal styles and legions of op shop clothing shopping, potheads and general waestrals with low self esteem and social awkwardness.
It was a facet of a scene (EG rock-big blanket I know) and the people who it touched and had a voice with grew up and sobered up... some even becoming responsible parents and the like...
So yeah, had it's day - stuff has moved on.
Same as Punk, New Romantics and other facets of the alternative scene.
i disagree that punk has moved on because punks still around you just gotta look for and punx dont so the punx who are parents are either suburban slums who deny there past or there raising a little mini punk rock hellraiser of there own
I am deeply offended, profoundly offended actually...to find a rock&roll thread in the industrial forum.
This is almost as much of an outrage as when the girls keeped posting Britney Spears and Lady Gag Reflex threads.
I`ll put in my 2 cents once more, Grunge was shit even in its hayday, only so much you can do with bar chords, really simple string arrangements, muddy beats and garage band style production. It most likely appealed to youths with shit heel futures, shitty taste in clothes, a penchant for mixed tapes, a hard on for shitty fender guitars with little practive amps, loser kids with low self esteem, little aspirations for life other then smoking a bong in their mate`s garage while the parents were out could probably identify with the whole dead beat, shit heel vibe with grunge. Fuck grunge.
And for the record, most so called grunge bands were just pedaling 70s rock with modern(for the time) production and mastering.
Grunge was ok when it came out, problem is with so many new "fans" of bands, there'd be some person saying that "Grunge is da best eva11!", which is annoying
I like Grunge music. To me, I felt like it had this raw, carnage sound. Sometimes it would tone down the raw and it still showed this pure emotion. I feel awkward about calling it Grunge after watching a documentary about it and how the name's be marred (or that's how I feel about it). Is it weird to call it just Alternative music?
its purely the people hat changed. Therefor, changing the music scene. I am a fan of grunge and always will be. Nirvana is still one of my favorite bands, no matter what snarky-ass, "intelligent", profound head-up-the-ass people say. Is part of our culture. And its not dead like many assume. It just lives through another sub-cultural scene. It won;t be the same, but it made its impact.
I think there are bands who continue to make music in the Grunge style, but the styles of music that are popular change. Therefore, any new bands that do Grunge may not be on tv or radio, but if you search online you may find some bands trying to bring it back.
Grunge somewhat survived. Every now and then I'll hear a super grungey riff or some weird guitar effect that sounds like it belongs in a Nirvana or Stone Temple Pilots song. The influence is still there. And of course you have your raspy voiced Kurt Cobain wannabes that pollute the airwaves for their respective 15 minutes of fame. Its never coming back as a movement or a scene, but its definitely had an impact on a lot of musicians and you can hear that influence today.
nobody tries to bring back grunge because you simply cannot compare. there are alot of fans and some try to mix it up and give it new sounds. grunge is simply lengendary that apparently has a tragedy entangled. People have too much respect to try ad bring it back. It is beautiful where it lies
If someone can correctly pull of something like the first Mudhoney LP, the first couple Dinosaur Jr records, or the Meat Puppets "II" then it'll be cool, otherwise fuck this genre
Alice in chains and Nervana are my favorite bands.
I think after Kurt shot himself if went downhill from there...
Alice in chains album, Dirt, was pretty much the best they had. After that they slipped through the cracks.
Anyways, they should bring back Grunge because that was the real stuff.
