Very simply put, Green Coffee Beans are Coffee Beans that are fresh and have not been roasted; the coffee we brew has been roasted and this is why it is brown, rather than green. Coffee Beans naturally contain a compound called Chlorogenic Acid, which is the active weight loss compound in Pure Green Coffee Beans. Roasting Coffee Beans destroys the Cholorgenic Acid. Recent clinical studies and trials have shown that the specific combination of Chologenic Acid and caffeine are effective for weight loss. One particular study followed 16 people (with a body mass index between 25% and 30%) and between 22 to 46 years old. Study participants were monitored for 22 weeks and participants diets and exercise were strictly monitored throughout the study. The participants ate on average 2,400 calories a day and had a calorie expenditure of 400 calories, nowhere near the levels necessary for weight loss. After the study, participants were found to have lost an average of seventeen pounds, which broke down to a 10.5% decrease in overall body weight and a 16 percent decrease in body fat. Green Coffee Beans have been shown to inhibit fat absorption and also stimulate the activation of fat metabolism in the liver, both major supporters of weight reduction. The Chlorogenic acid found in Green Coffee Beans is a natural phytochemical that is found in a wide array of plants, with very high concentrations in Green Coffee Beans. It has been found to inhibit the release of glucose into the blood, particularly after meals, and appears to help people lose weight as a result. Chlorogenic acid may also be able to induce body fat loss by increasing body heat produced, thus promoting thermogenesis, the natural burning of fat for energy. It is also believed to reduce the generation of new fat cells due to its superior anti-oxidant effects. Chlorogenic acid does not appear to be absorbed by the small intestine and is not actually detected in plasma after ingestion. It is believed that Chlorogenic acid can bind to certain compounds and therefore hinder the absorption of dietary fat. The results are consistent with human and animal studies and suggest Green Coffee Beans are an effective tool for any weight reduction plan and may be specifically successful in reducing weight in pre-obese adults. I have spoken to a number of people who have also used this product and they say it works. Finally, a miracle weight loss product that is natural, safe, and effective.

It doesn't have to be intense exercise, at least at first. I spent my teenage years getting to double my ideal body weight, if not a bit more. The ONLY thing that got the weight off, and has kept it off for 10 years and counting is eating right and being active.
I can't find a single source of reliable information on green coffee bean extract - all I'm getting is links to sites that sell it, but don't state where and how the studies were done. Do you have a link to something with some scientific merit behind it?

I'm not sure that I'd call Dr. Oz a 'reliable source' - that site doesn't post any of the details about how the study was carried out (ie details about concurrent diet and exercise, if any, whether there was a control group, what other factors were measured...y'know...sciency stuff). It *references* an article in an actual journal, but I can't find even an abstract for that article online, which makes me skeptical.

A study with only 16 people tells you almost nothing, certainly not nearly enough to 'prove' in any way that this product is successful. I'm not saying it isn't; anecdotal evidence may suggest it could be (but also suggested that mercury and uranium had healing properties), so please don't rely on it; lifestyle changes are more likely to help.
There have been very few successful pharmaceutical interventions into weight loss due to the numerous factors involved; I'd be very surprised if a 'cure' was just around the corner. If this product did work, I'd also expect there to be far more discussion about it in scientific journals etc.

I agree that it is definitely down to the individual to make their own decision. All I'm trying to do is make you (and other potentially interested members) aware that the available data sounds very weak, nowhere near the level required to suggest this drug is successful from a medical perspective. I also have concerns regarding the study design; it appears that it could be easily subject to bias.
I won't go into the stats, but I'd want to see a randomised control trial that looked at 16,000 people rather than 16. You will never achieve 100% certainty with anything in life, but for me, I'd want to be fairly certain that a positive effect wasn't down to just chance.
Also, be aware that dietary supplements aren't subject to the same level of safety testing as pharmaceuticals; as mentioned by scarletfang, the side effects and contraindications (eg existing conditions you shouldn't take these with and negative interactions with other drugs) haven't been determined.

Yeah - I'd be more worried about the potential for negative side effects than about it just not working - if it fails, it's just a waste of money, but if there are horrible side effects, well...yeah.
I like green coffee drinks because they taste good. Whether or not they induce weight loss will likely have no baring on whether I continue to drink them or not. ^_^
I read Dr.Oz actually polled some of his facebook followers for a so called scientific study.
mm.. not so scientific me thinks.
I bought some bottles from a site called http://www.greencoffeebeansextracts.us and found no effect whatsoever after like three weeks! But somebody is making money i know!
