Hellraiser (also known as Clive Barker's Hellraiser) is a 1987 British horror film based upon the novella The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker, who also wrote the screenplay and directed the film. The film spawned a series of sequels. A remake was announced and might be presented in 3D.Hellraiser was number 19 on the cable channel Bravo's list of the 100 Scariest Movie Moments.
beautiful movie. Though the latest hellraiser that came out a year ago is fucking horrible.

Well the first is undoubtedly a classic of the genre.
In terms of sequels, Hellbound is one of my favorites. I liked how it expanded the Hellraiser mythology. I'm not particularly fond of Hell on Earth. It took the franchise into a more slasher-esque route. The 4th had a lot of scenes cut out during post-production (much to the directors dismay.) There's a fan edit of the film on youtube where all the deleted scenes are reinserted. 5,6,7,8 were not originally intended to be Hellraiser films, apparently.
Butterball and Wire Twins from Inferno are awesome looking cenobites.
4 was good too, but yeah 5-8 you should definetly avoid unless you're a completist. Haven't seen Revelations yet, but apparently Clive Barker condemned it!
I've been meaning to watch some of the sequels cuz I have a bunch on DVD, but never got around to actually figuring out the order of them, cuz they aren't usually numbered.
The thing about this series, it really was dead after the third movie. After that it just became one shit film after another that was made on constantly diminishing budget for the sake of slapping a film together to meet contractual qouta and keep the rights to the franchise. Doug Bradley himself told me that the last one they made was slapped together with a few thousand bucks over a short period of time, just so they wouldn't lose the rights to the franchise, and finally ended up turning down the role of Pinhead. The film was never supposed to see the light of day, but it was sent straight to DVD and released under the con of being some long lost Hellraiser film. That only lasted a short while before people caught on to the rather obvious bullshit.

I love the first 4 in this franchise- Sadly as someone already pointed out 5,6,7 and 8 were not written as a Hellraiser movie, as they were scripts for other projects. I got the part 9- Hellraiser Revelations about 2 weeks ago to finish my collection of them all and its just terrible...
In terms of a remake for this film, I simply don't care for it, even though I don't know how any one could fuck it up more they did with part 9 Revelations, more on that in a bit... The first was a terrific movie and still looks great today with good acting and effects.
Its just bad when a franchise starts good, then just gets worse with every flick- Take part 1 to part 9. The story has the same kinda plot with the skin Harvesting- Part 1, my favourite scene was Franks rebirth thanks to Larrys blood hitting the floor. Part 9 had the same gag but it was awful, it looked more like the character in question was hiding under a blanket and just appeared
Also Doug Bradley wasn't cast as Pinhead, I'm not sure why.Could anyone say the reason why if they know? I read on a forum on Bloodly disgusting I think, that he had a falling out with the Weinstein brothers, thats why Stephan Smith Collins was cast
He declined it because of the measly amount he was offered to reprise the role. As Firewind pointed out, it was made quickly on the cheap so they could hold the rights to the franchise.
I've 1-8 but I just can't bring myself to buy Revelations. No Doug Bradley, no dice.
Thanks for clearing that up, I knew they threw out a sequel to have the rights to go ahead with the remake though- The film had a budget of around $3million.
Yeah I was really dreading watching this flick without Doug Bradley but I was not gonna be put off if he was not in it as lets face it, the later seqeuls he was in was still terrible anyway, no fault of his own of course.
The reason why 9 was bad are simple, Terrible acting, dull characters, bad effects, complete and utter stupidity all the way through, example...One of the 2 guys that the story focus' on has sex with a girl in the toilet while his friend passes out. When the friend wakes up he finds the girl dead which terrible dialogue follows " Dude, she's dead What did you do? It was an accident " Yeah really an accident when you smash a girls head in no stop fucking
True, I hated part 6:Hellseeker but liked Doug Bradleys lines in that film.
Trust me, don't waste your money buying this shit- Its completely and utterly horrible- I could tell you more about the film but you'd properly reach for ethier a bottle of Brandy to numb yourself to it or a sick bag, thats how bad it is
BORN WITH A DARK CURSE...FORGED FROM UNDYING HATE...HE BECAME THE ULTIMATE KILLER...BUT THAT KILLER, HAS NEVER MET HIS MATCH...
there is a few in my collection i have including the latest one that are just horrible. the recent one ive seen, had hellraiser in it maybe for a split second and the rest was just shots of the humans.
Where have i been is all i can say. I have all 3 but never new there was more. Ive looked on Amazon and Ebay but mention of 4,5,6,7 or 8. Thats me on Mazon all day i keep saying to my partner, what if they remake all 3 hell raisers..wouls they ruin it or put a bit of flare andfreshen it up? Qwll theae are 1 of the horrors that scared me to death as Teen and still mmakes me gag a little lol. Can not beat the classics.
Seeing this thread really made me happy for some reason. Honestly my favorite of the series is the Fifth expansion, oddly enough. Even though I absolutely loved the original, number five didn't have the sappy happy ending.
