“I linger yet with Nature, for the night hath been to me a more familiar face than that of man; and in her starry shade of dim and solitary loveliness, I learn’d the language of another world.”
Some of my favorites are Hate Forest, Emperor, Svarttjern, Siebenburgen, Gris, Austere, Shining, Burzum, Nokturnal Mortum, Gorgoroth, Nachtmystium, Naglfar, Summoning, Immortal, Drudkh, Klabautamann, Borknagar, Rauhnacht....
I'm a fan of black metal, and whole-heartedly concur with the assertion that black metal fans, by and large, tend to be gay. You forgot narrow-minded, joyless, musically fascist, and unintentionally hilarious.
I like a lot of non-black metal that has been influenced by black metal. The thing is, musical genres are "alive," in the sense that they morph, change, and mature with time. What was once a bunch of teenagers and 20 somethings painting their faces and screeching about horrible, Satanic things to raw, dissonant music has branched into many, many other genres and sub-genres. Some of the classics are still great, and there are a select few bands who more or less "stay true" to the "traditional" style, but let's face it, some of the best bands have branched out and the "black metal" umbrella has become very wide.
What gets me are the fucking elitists. Seriously, if I want to take Graveland out of my player and listen to Motown, Dimmu Borgir, Tori Amos or the Doors, eat shit if you have a problem with it. I can count the number of metal fans I consider friends on one hand.
