Theres just too many bands and albums comming out. Get's kind of hard to keep track of. You want to listen to bands and albums you already like but also want to hear new music.
Been listening to a lot of prog black metal and ambient black metal recently, mostly A Forest of Stars, Ihsahn, Solefald, Petrychor, Wodensthrone, Oskoreien, Vintersorg, and Solstafír (gotta have that post black metal going too lol)
Don't get me wrong I like a lot of 'post' black metal but I'm starting to dislike it when people only think of these bands when someone mentions black metal instead of the actual bm bands
that's why there are subgenres lol, that way you can nitpick. the bands I mentioned are all black metal, but are faaaaar from the traditional black metal sound.
I agree, if you say "black metal" then you should hear "Emperor" or "Immortal" in your head... if you say "progressive black metal" then you should hear some "Mirrorthrone" or new "Enslaved"
Thing is, Vintersorg never was black metal. Sure, it the some harsh vocals and tremmelo picking, but it ain't more lack than lets say...Alcest! By the way, I would never use Immortal as I prime example of black metal.
I've been going through my Drudkh records recently, if they count; getting back in the mood to listen to it. I've seen Teitanblood's name thrown about on occasion, though, are they good?
And now, here they are, out among the stars, waiting to begin a new life.
Ready to outsit eternity. They're indomitable.
Borac's definitly right! There's so much stuff coming out nowadays... hard to get and overview and well not everything that pops up is that good, sadly.

We're all heading towards the end
There's an Australian bm band that did like this rock side project, not too many years ago I think. Be fucked if I can remember the name of either of them. Might have started with A, might not have.
