We all have those games; we bought them because they looked cool but then after playing a bit we realized it wasn't what we were looking for at that time, set it aside, and never returned to it. What're some of yours?
LIMBO-I love the graphics, the ambience, the "story" but the gameplay design is bleh. You will die. A lot.
Alien Breed 2: Assault-More of a chore than anything else. Also basically one long fetchquest.
Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey-I'm just bad at platform games. That's what it all comes down to.
Infamous 1, its a shitter of a game to me, many people like it, I am at odds. I hate the gameplay and the mechanics.
God Of War 3, that Hades cunt pushes my shit in and takes me to brown town every time I have a scrap with him. I suck.
Resistance 3, I play the game for a chapter, then just stop as I get bored, the gameplay and presentation is just not compelling enough to keep me hooked.
Forza 3-4, I already have most of the cars I wanted, no point now. giving the games back soon.
Batman Arkham Asylum. I`ve already beaten up enough baddies to know what to expect further on, no memorable bossfights and the stealth is newbish as all hell. Not even my love of Batsy can make me get through that hellicopter scanning bullshit.
^^ Played most of them. Have to agree on Infamous though, it was just boring, not very compelling or immersing. The rest however (but Forza) I played through and completed, although I do agree on what you're saying, can't remember much of Asylum at all...
I think I played through most the games I get. The only only I remember that was a complete pain was Dragon Age. It was long, boring, and just felt bad. I put 30 hours into that game and died on the final boss, then didn't play it for 2 weeks. FINALLY went back to play it to complete just because I spent so fucking long on it...
DOOM III was another. As Doom 1 & 2 were just proper classics and Doom 3 just didn't have the same charm. Was just metal corridors afer more metal corridors...
Oh yeah Rage. I want to play the game more to see if it hopefully gets better with more weapons, new enemies(I already know there are almost no different enemies then the guys you first fight), maybe these new weapons cause gore and make the game more nejoyable.
I played it for about an hour. It just wasn't a very 'satisfying' game. shooting people didn't have a good feel to it, felt like shooting bricks. not as free roam as I read, thought it was gonna be like Fallout. I got the Wolfenstein cup and was all 'yeaaah!' ... but thats it
Speaking of Resistance 3, theres like one level that is just soooooooooo bltantly ripping off HL2 ravenholm. Not in a braod sense of horror, darkness, alien zombie things, its just a blatant rip off. Sadly thats one of the few memorable parts of the game so far.
I liked resistance 2 because of the grand scale of some of the battles, but this is msotly average.
The Zombie town with the crazy priest
The bit where you have to wait for the elevator and zombies attack
There's an Alien race in power, and are using a giant tower
There's a portal above the tower
There's even the goddam prison bit too
There is ALOT in that game that is taken from HL2, I still liked it better than 2 though. Wasn't just the 'regen health and carry 2 weapons' Bollox
Mass Effect. I started it multiple times and simply couldn't find myself caring past Eden Prime. The controls felt like absolute shite and the MAKO was the worst vehicle I've ever driven.
Then I played and raped the hell out of Mass Effect 2. After playing with the "better" controls, I sneer with derision at the first game.
As for RAGE, I liked it when it first came out as BORDERLANDS.

Yup, R3 just felt too derivative of everything else. The lack of regen pissed me off to be honest.
Rage was so short I finished it before I realised it was over. Didn't realise 3rd disk was going to be just for multiplayer. So that was disappointing. Best thing about Rage: the wingsticks. Love those.
Most of the newer sandbox RPGs. Play a couple of hours on the main quest, go do other stuff. Do other stuff for 4 million hours, go back to main quest. Ridiculously overpowered by then, quest rewards are pointless, forgot what the story is about. Get bored, uninstall.
actually, as I just got again for the 3rd time (but on PC now ... for 50p) Red Faction Armageddon, LOVE the destructo physics, but the story was so bland and boring ... BUT BLOWING SHIT UP WAS AWESOME!
Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands: too easy, all the enemies die right away to it offered no challenge and I got bored
Divinity 2: that damn camera!!!! after spending all that time adjusting it, the damn thing would keep popping back to its original settings
'It was fun for awhile, but I just got bored of the "Go here, go there, quest here, cast spell here" deal.'
It wasn't until I said the same to my friend he finally realised, I remember seeing the trailer and thinking AWWW YEAAAAAH! ... and for the first 30 mins it was Awesome ... but after playing it a bit, it really did just feel like Oblivion ...
Technically, it's highly possible to consider a game over-hyped and never play it. I never played Gears of War when it came out (ZOMG! Horrorz!), because the sheer amount of advertising and heaps 'o praise that was lumped on it turned me off from being interested. Call it "desensitization."
Skyrim can certainly be accused of suffering of the same thing.
Of course, he could also be a troll and utterly full of shit. Who knows, Highlander?
Skyrim lost all appeal after a week; it lacked that sense limitless options Oblivion had. You weren't just a prisoner that patrick stewart had a wetdream over and brogutht along for a laugh, you had were this stupid dovah who can rape anything by shouting and were forced into saving the god damn world. Suddenly everyone wanted you to do their errands they could have done by themselves anyway. And the dark brotherhood was shit.
