- Is one month enough? Is it racist?
- Should there ever be a White or Chinese History Month?
- What black history means to you, and how much impact it has on your lives
and more!
"Im not American but I think it's good that there's such a thing as a black history month, considering the US' incredibly disgusting history of slavery (and modern slavery concerning people of color)"
1807 was the end to slave trading in Britain and we formally abolished slavery in 1883. Even though the British anti slavery movement is almost as old as America itself.
The Spanish, Portuguese, French...etc and the current slave trade in central, west Africa and many other regions around the world....Slave trade is not exclusive to the US and US history....
Which bit of "abolished" don't you understand? If it was abolished then it had to exist and be condemned. Europe has had a long history of slavery, tyranny and nicking everything that wasn't nailed down.
But the way some Americans speak.. and I'll say "enough Americans" It's like bloody Alf Garnett- who was a 60's parody of a racist moron.
That if someone mentions that it was abolished... that means that it used to be considered legal.
You might want to look at the healthy skinhead movement in England
I would not say healthy. And seriously, nothing like America.
The EDL are actually quite minor and the worst of it is the Daily Mail which is low-grade bigotry from a paper that supported the Nazis during the second world war. They're no more than redneck hicks.
....By the way you speak you are a reactionary that has nothing better to do, than to put down people on the net.....
Nope. I think you're an idiot. But I try to explain why I think that in every new thread.
"what do you mean? I was reinforcing my original point to chi" - chi_bloodlollie ....I took the necessary step to make it obvious I wasn't talking to you....But you still had to peddle your ignorance...
Being a black american, I can say that black history month is mostly for our own self esteem as people. It has little to do with white americans in general, mostly because its about celebrating our history. Blacks in america don't have a culture like our african counter parts, so we had to create one, our origional cultures having been lost. I wouldn't say we needed one, but if you don't want to take part in it, no ones asking you to, just ignore it.
