The Brian Jonestown Massacre is an American electic musical group formed in San Francisco, CA, in 1990, led by Anton Newcombe, whose music spans multiple genres including psychedelia, electronica, folk music, blues, experimental music, shoegazing, and many others.wiki
This is what plays on the radio in Heaven I bet.
This is actually one of the bands I really got into because someone made a thread about them in this forum. So who knows maybe now that I'm remaking the thread someone who hasn't heard of them before will click on this thread and become a fan like I did!
I love them, I don't know how I went so long without even hearing of them, they have so much music out, tons of members have come and gone. They were basically the Yardbirds of the 90's, every member went on to form their own band after quitting the Brian Jonestown Massacre or being kicked out by Anton. Peter Hayes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club fame got his start here.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre were also in the 2004 documentary "DiG!", which tells the story of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols, great fucking watch.
it's good sexin music. the naked dude n chick surrrounded by the cosmos supports this theory.
edit: check out a band called "the heartless bastards", gonna drive up n catch them tomorrow in st. louis. from what i remember we like alot of the same stuff and it's worthy of checkin out.

The new record is fantastic. The Krautrock influence is totally undeniable on it (and I mean that in the possible way). I think it's safe to say that Anton is finally fully blending all of the components of his musical influence into one solid unit. I think he's mining influences from the 60s, 70s, and 80s to make something totally modern sounding
I'm still hooked on the new LP. It's a great mix of shoegaze and some cool Eastern influence (methinks Anton is a fan of Agitation Free's "Malesch" which is a very good thing). The raga influence on "Face Down On the Moon" is a real high point, and the Stones rip of a guitar lick on "Stairway to the Best Party In the Universe" is neat. Certainly one of my favorite records for the year.
On a similar tip, if anyone here has not listened to the Black Angels or Wooden Shjips please do so. I think both fit nicely in the same modern psych catagory
I bought this on eBay for like 9 bucks.
90's BJM Bomp! press photo.
I keep wondering who the women is, I'm guessing it's Mara Keagle and the photo is from 1996 Take It from the Man!/Their Satanic Majesties Second Request era, I just don't know for sure.

Isn't the story behind those videos and album that Anton went to live in Iceland and hooked up with some Icelandic artist and that's who made those videos. I'm not 100% sure but I remember Anton saying that in a interview.
Saw this recently, great full 1998 show, Strung out in Heaven Tour!
Also, sorta BJM related. I'm seeing The Warlocks next month!
I have a VHS tape that a friend of my exgirlfriend gave to me of them live in like 1996ish that's really cool
I really like the Warlocks and they put on a very cool show. They have a new record coming out soon, and I believe they will be at the Austin Psych Fest also
So I saw The Warlocks this past weekend, it was amazing.
Did some new songs, played a lot off of Phoenix, which made me happy because it's my favorite album of theirs. I almost grabbed one of the set lists off the stage too but got beaten to it, haha.
I saw today that BRMC is going to be playing here in June, I hope I get tickets to that.
And yea man, that Austin Psych Fest lineup is insane this year.
oh my god man, pete and rob are so fucking cool....got my guitar signed, got our poster signed, got some geetar pics and all that good shit. also shot a really good video, tryin to figure out how to upload it.
if it's the last thing you do in life, go see them. the most intense, tight, refined, and ecstatic experience i've ever had. that goes for the 3 times we've seen them. never a disappointment.
How did you get them to sign your stuff? You had like VIP passes or something right, you didn't just show up to the gig with your stuff hoping they will sign it did you? lol
I got a BRMC/Morning After Girls poster I would love for them to sign, but I doubt I could get to them.
haha i was actually too nervous to leave my guitar at home for a few days while out of town and stuck it in the trunk of our car (break in's ya know). after some liquor, herbal supplements, and "party favors derived from the poppy flower", i had enuff ballz to walk to the trunk and grab the guitar. we just chilled out, got some nachos from the food truck parked out front (WHAT A GODSEND), and grubbed out on the steps about 20ft from their tour bus. considering that hollys hair is bright ass red and we danced our asses off the whole 2hr set -while most the other people stood there looking too pretentious to get into the music and enjoy the show..... we were noticed, bands love it when you enjoy the show, goes with the whole energy thing.
we were determined to get the poster signed and pics with them. i never had any intention of getting my guitar signed though, but it ended up happening as if fate were on our side for once. first family heirloom.
what we've learned is: have fun, dance, move, get all the way up front, have a fucking good time and let it show. bands feed off your energy and unless they are total pricks, they won't have any problem talking to you after the show.
Oh yeah, I'm always right in front of the stage, I get to gigs super early. Only time I got away from the stage this year is when I went to see the Black Lips not that long ago, wasn't by choice though, just the crowd got nuts and I had to move, haha. Also few weeks ago I went to see Bass Drum of Death in a tiny bar in LA, it was so packed I got stuck with the side view of the stage which I'm not that big of a fan of.
I'm going to see The Black Angels on Tuesday. Then I got BRMC next week. Also The Warlocks are going to be back in LA in July, going to get tickets for that soon. It'll be the second time I catch them live this year.
