What does death feel like?

So I'm reading a book called Zodiac and it had me wondering, what does death feel like? Is a quick death as painful as a slow death? When you die in your sleep, do you feel it at all? If you get shot in the temple do you feel the bullet pierce your body? What are your thoughts on the subject?

Death is like the feel of a stockinged thigh brushing against your old fella

From this living belt were suspended phials full of deadly liquid, knives, and surgical instruments. His right hand held a phial, filled with a luminous red liquid, and which bore these strange words: “Drink, this my blood, the perfect cordial.”

the initial sensation differs by method, but the inevitable conclusion is non-sensation; going from dying to being dead implies the cessation of the mind as associated with the corresponding body, therefore, the part which observes feeling, being no longer in existence, no longer observes feeling and thus no longer is.

As for the bullet, a .22 (which is pretty small) enters the skull at a faster rate than nerve impulses travel, so a bullet to the brain will not be felt.

wow! you just found a purpose for life! what are you gonna do next? EPIC FAIL!!!
Michio Kaku is f*cking awesome!
*btw, though I challenge your beliefs, I mean not to offend, but rather to stimulate thought.

A simple answer to a simple question, it just "depends" on "how" you "die"

Scientifically proven death is an extreme overwhelming sensation of ecstasy and happiness. All of the chemicals in your brain release into your blood stream upon dieing, most people who claim to have seen a bright light before death is all of those chemicals reacting together causing your neurons, all of those electrical signals that fire off in your brain to spark. Its really fascinating.

Live life and Live long. Keep who you are.

Yes I suppose that is true too. It could cause swelling of the brain and possible ventricles to explode.

Many things in my life have really left me stumped or should i say intrigued to the point where i lose countless hours thinking about the subject. None of these topics i have discussed more have been anymore stumping then Death and the view on afterlife. Well i have many thoughts and feelings about the afterlife and death that well i think the whole world should think about and really try to understand where i am coming from.

Now we all know that the only thing that is certain in this world is death. Why do we do and what happens after death is something that has plagued human minds since the beginning of intelligent life. We all know that the reason why we die is because like all things living there comes a point where they can no longer sustain life and slowly fade away into nothingness. What we also know is right before death a chemical called DMT(Dimethyltryptamine) is produced in insane amount just moments before death. Now, no one knows why we produce DMT. all we know about DMT is that it is the most powerful psychedelic known to man and that when produced in the brain is gives us what we know as Dreams. No one truly knows why we dream but we do know that we dream during R.E.M.( rapid eye movement) Now this chemical called DMT is produced by a gland called the pineal glad which is located in the center of our brain. pretty much take your finger and put it in the center of your forehead and there it is( plus a couple inches) now for some this location is important because it is the location of the mystical Third Eye. many religions and many faith practitioners believe that the Third eye is the mystical tie to the subconscious mind.

Now the location of this gland and the thought of the third eye truly amaze me. Why did these ancient religions and long before recorded scientific studies believe that the location of the third eye is there. How could this be a mere coincidence? Coming from someonewho doesn’t believe in coincidences this is my view on it. I believe that DMT(believe me i will have another post dedicated to DMT) is the chemical that brings you to your afterlife. You see our minds and our conscious thoughts are so powerful that in death they cannot end. You see we humans produce Energy. With energy you cannot create, destroy, or dissipate energy. Alll energy used and ever will be used has been created from the Big bang( another post as well) Since the same energy has been used and the same energy will be continued to be used it is safe to say that if we humans produce energy then somewhere in the past the energy that we are producing now has been used before. This leads me to believe that there is a form of reincarnation. Now i am not saying that we will remember or can be directly tied to a person in the past. What i am saying is the energy that we do use has been used by someone or hell even ourselves in the past. This may seem like nothing right now but i will go further into detail in a little bit. I want to move onto perception and the perception of death.

Now with some religions there are talks and even scriptures that talk about the afterlife. If one was to look in a catholic or christian bible the afterlife composes of Heaven and Hell. To believe in christ and accept him as your savior leads you to heaven. To not believe leads you into eternal damnation. I find this thought to be horrible. How can someone past judgment on another human being? How does one deciede if a person lived a good or evil life? You have to understand that we all have different views on good or bad. For some people what there good is could be others bad and vice verse. So if this is the case then who decides what is right or wrong? Does the divine power of “God” decide? and even if he does how will he decide? on what terms or what grounds will he judge us? Or is the fact of the matter that judgment comes to those who believe in judgment. Could it be that since life is all about perception that the afterlife would be about perception as well? Could it be that when you die whatever you believe the afterlife to be it will be so? I personally believe that whatever you decide is your afterlife, May it be you believe in judgment, reincarnation, or no afterlife at all, that due to the power of your perception you are destined to that afterlife. You see for most people they have not experienced death and lived to tell the tale. I on the other hand have felt the warm embrace of death and i will share my story.

I experienced death first hand. I actually died for about 45 seconds to 55 seconds. Now i do not remember most of that night due to the insane about of drugs that pumped through my system. Seeing as i pretty much went on a 8 hour blackout it would be safe to assume what happened to me towards the end during the time when doctors were trying to revive me to be a death experience. I am not talking near death where i flirted with death, i mean my heart stopped and i was no longer living. Now during this time i remember some things but real vague sort of like a dream( this goes back to the DMT thing i discussed a little before and will discuss in a future post) I remember being in a white room. Not like any room i have ever been before. This room had no beginning middle or end. This room had nothing in it other then myself and what seemed to be thousands upon thousands of other people. I remembered them because i can hear all of them talking. I can see them but i could not see them. they were kind of like transparent. As i stood in this room i was looking around looking for answers. asking myself if i was dead or simply if i was dreaming. I looked around and asked people over and over if i was dead. no answer. I started to scream for everyone to shut up and everyone to tell me what the fuck was going on. To much screamin and avail no one even seemed to notice me. They carried on talking louder and louder and louder. I covered my ears to try to block all the sound. i then remember i heard one voice in particular that i knew and since this voice left this planet.( it was the voice of someone very dear to me and close to me who passed away) as i heard this voice i knew at that second that i was no longer on planet earth and that i have died. I started to run towards the voice. Yet, i never got closer. The voice always seemed to be rather distant. I ran for what seemed like hours until finally something appeared before me as i ran into it. I fell down and looked up. It was a pedestal. but this was not some ordinary pedestal. as i looked up it seemed like it went on forever and ever and ever. Further then i could even tilt my head back. As i looked to the top another voice boomed out from the sky and asked me how i believed i would be judged. I to my surprise said without thought that i do not believe in judgement and that judgment only comes to those who wished to be judged. With that said there was a great tremble and the voice said it is not your time…i started to be sucked back into existence and as i entered my body and laid there i suddenly woke up in a Hostipal. i was told by nurses rather quickly that i died for 45 seconds to 55 seconds and that i should be happy i am alive.

After that experience i made it a point to dissect this experience and try my best to desern what it meant. After weeks of much thought i came to believe that since reality is perception so should the afterlife. You see because someone believes in Jesus, Jesus therefore comes into existence and existence in their reality. In their little world or their own perception of their existence Jesus exist. Same with Buddhist,Jews,Muslims, wycans, etc etc. You see the people who follow these religions or philosophies believe that the said Afterlife is what the afterlife will be. Therefore in their minds and their existence it is so.

So i say this to my readers…Think long and hard about what you want for the afterlife. Think long and hard until you are certain that what you believe is what you will believe until the day you finally leave this planet. Until then fear not death fear not life. Death regardless of what you try to do to stop it will come knocking on our door one day. Now you can chose to run and hide or open the door allow death in and ask him if he would like a cup of tea( see mighty boosh series for rest of funny scene.) Until next time my faithful readers…expand your mind

I disagree with you on "what you believe in will be your after life" the reason being is that in the book, Zodiac, the killer believed that when he died all of those people he killed will be his slaves in the afterlife. But what about his murder victims? Wouldn't their beliefs contradict in what the killer's beliefs were?

You ever get that feeling like the world is falling apart or that you're not sure how you're gonna pull through something?

At death, you're actually right.

In all seriousness, though, I think it is a useless question. No one can tell a person what it feels like. Chemicals rushing through your brain doesn't mean a whole lot because an oft quoted line from those with a neuroscience bent is that "A transmitter is only as good as a receptor". Sure, dopamine gets a great rep for being a neurotransmitter that brings pleasure, and it is when it hits certain receptors (D1, for instance). However, if it hits D2, it sends a signal to inhibit the pleasurable response. (Doesn't lessen it, the signal just doesn't get passed from then on). Suppose then that, if you're particularly unlucky, that gluco-corticoids have a huge release and they hit the right receptors, then it will be the most stressful feeling you've ever felt. If, by some chance, you're next to a big magnet, all bets are off.

Don't worry too much about what death feels like. It will be here soon enough and there's not a whole lot anyone can do about it.

this is what death would be like: your cold and your heart is rotting within your chest, you cant breathe cause your lungs dont work anymore, you cant eat cause you have no use for a stoumach, you lay there without a brain, you dont do anything, feel anything, nothing what so ever, its like sleeping almost actually, cause when you sleep, you cant do anything, see anything, nothing! the only thing you do is breathe, and dream sometimes.. so imagine yourself sleeping without breathing and without dreaming and youll never wake up. and basically your dead..... It's easy to say what death will feel like. Have you ever went unconscious? Hit your head too hard, hell, fell asleep even? Without consciousness, you are not aware of anything nor able to have any cognitive understanding of any feeling. Furthermore, in death you cannot feel anything. This property of death, the unfeeling quality, makes this question in essence paradoxical for in death there is no feeling. The process of dying would feel the same as any other experience of the consciousness shutting down, any other pain or injury is purely circumstantial and does not reflect the death experience but the pre-death experience. When I am in pain, falling asleep or passing out seems to dull the stimulation from my nervous system. If you ever have fainted or lost consciousness, there is a numb feeling that emerges along with disorientation. Death is simply a loss of consciousness that is not woken from. It's probably quite peaceful and generally you don't really know you're not going to wake up when you pass out. Say you're shot in the head, it would just knock you out as if you hit your head really hard if indeed your brain takes the impact. As much pain as there may be right before death, the dying part will be peaceful. The experience of being dead is none, there is no afterlife that can be proven or understood. The probability of an afterlife where you can see, hear, and remember things, is very very close to 0. The experience of being dead is the exact experience of what it was like before you were born, no different.

Spiritual death is the worst.
when you die physically you may have hopes of a better after, but when you die spiritually there is no hope and you soul feels it.

People that die spiritual deaths are more likely messing with the occult and then physical death is less scary since their perceptions are higher about reality.

actually, its gonna be like dreaming. as dreaming is in the moment BEFORE you get waked up by something, and your brain creates a mixture of anything in your brain, than it shows it. Well... death is gonna be the same, only your brain will show everything it stored. But what comes after that...

"You told me to love you and I did -- Tied my soul into a knot and got me to submit -- So when I got away I only kept my scars -- The other me is gone now -- I don't know where I belong"

...casual down to basics on soil as if you were in your teens in a general sense of feeling, if you're good = good standing in sex internally in a general sense - never screwed harshly, else, if you did and it's centered deep = you're generally like a bum on earth back in time!... When you age naturally = simply being on your reawaken feet clearly on the new soil there and for a WHILE = feeling like in a sea of milk, this is temp till you're back to naturalness there. If this sea of milk gets prolonged somehow, a mental hospital like place is what you get, why? Seek and you shall find!

If you've ever blacked out, and noted how you didn't even know it had happened until you came back to... I think that's probably a good idea of what some of the quicker forms of death would come on like.
