Currently a hot topic across "Top pics" and "Top journals" (even if the more entertaining ones have been deleted). The general thrust of the argument appears to be this-
1- Girls are posting pictures of themselves in underwear.
2- This is "skanky".
3- However, if the girl in question is "truly beautiful", and the photograph is technically proficient/photoshopped, it becomes "not skanky".
Now, personally speaking I think that argument has a huge bullseye painted all over it, but it's one worth discussing. What is "skanky" to you?
Is 'skanky'/'skank' related to prostitutes in some way? For some reason the back of my mind is telling me it is.
Otherwise, I guess people mostly just use it to say mean things about people they don't like. Kind of how we know that people enjoy sex, and having sex with others (obviously) but if it's somebody you don't like that's having the sex they're a slut (or a man-whore i guess??) There's a meaning to the word, but it's mostly just used to elicit a negative emotional response from the person.
I reserve the word for use when someone is being an asshole as well, say they screw another man in the bed they share with their boyfriend or something like that. In that situation I might say her actions were 'skanky', or at least nod in agreement if someone else did. I actually dislike the word, would rarely use it. I don't like how it sounds.
Cold sores on the lips and a clapped out vagina like a half-gutted fish. To me, skanky = repulsive slut. Not be confused with your garden variety slut, who is sluttish, but not necessarily 'skanky'.

You can have revealing and even nude pictures without it being slutty or skanky. I doubt many people would consider nude women in Renaissance art to be slutty, also photography can have nude subjects and still be very artistic and tastefully done. If you remember that picture of Miley Cyrus a few years ago with her naked but covered in a sheet. I do not consider Miley Cyrus an attractive girl/woman (she's far too young for my tastes) but that picture was absolutely beautiful.
But at any rate, if you've got a pic of yourself with titties half popped out our in bra and panties, it may make you more popular but it definitely does make you at least look sluttier and/or skankier.

Pretty much that. I do not care how beautiful or ugly they are, they are still trying to do the same thing and want attention. They are taking "skanky" pictures of themselves showing off their cleavage because at times it seems it is all that they have to offer.
But that is my biased opinion on it. Though good looking people get off the hook easier because generally good looking people get treated better.
I'm going to agree with -SKOLL-'s definition of "I'm so jealous of how physically attractive you are".
For some people it also means that in addition to this: "I feel threatened because I am deeply insecure about my own body so I'll insult you and shame you in a bid to make myself feel at least somewhat superior".

Ive been called skanky cause i don't always shower. But i don't think thats personally the best definition of what skanky is To me its more of a sexual term.

To me skanky is about being dirty, unwashed, unkempt.. not about someone posting pics in bikini's or underwear.

Skanky, to me, denotes the actual meaning of "slut" but sort of minus the explicitly sexual connotations it has these days. Like, you can be skanky and not necessarily be sexually provocative. Just... nasty. Dirty. Perhaps revolting.
"Skanky" is applied to chicks who are showing skin for the sake of trying to get hit on by guys and nothing more. They're straight dirty and will screw almost anyone.
Most of the models are more in it for the art form than the sex appeal. I wouldn't consider it "classy" but it's not whorish either because usually, they're not looking to get dicked in the ass.
I think it really just boils down to their intention.
I don't use this word a lot actually. But then opportunities to do so rarely present themselves, at least for me. But my definition, I feel, is a little more classic. A shank is a person who has sex with multiple partners in the same day and doesn't bother showering between each encounter. Can be either guy or a girl.
Skanky is a term used for promiscuous females and likely derives from prostitution. As such this term provides no evidence that exposed women are indeed skanks. Despite the fantasy's (or disgust) of on lookers for this terminology to be factual there would have to be an action involved.
No matter the art from the image is still in essence partial nudity, the same as every other picture involving individuals who drift towards sparse clothing.
Personally the human body is common place to me and the fact that people still make a fuss remains dumbfounding. It is a wondrous thing, yes but nothing that has not been seen before.
So when skank is pinned upon an image of someone i must object since there remains no proof of promiscuity.
Well, basically a "skank" is someone that looks enourmously fake and either reveals a lot of her chest or holds herself in a slutty/suggesite manner.
They also wear foot thick makeup and have bleached hair with ratty extensions :/
I think it depends on how you carry yourself. If You're wearing a ridiculously short skirt, at least sit with your legs closed, speak nicely, and just be polite. I'm not saying girls have to be angels, but we should act like we've been raised well.
Women are seen as sluts, because society has conditioned to think that men are allowed to be jerks because they're bread winners, where as women have been seen as only good for their maternal instincts and should therefore be gentile and nice.
Why it's not slutty with professional photographs is a good question. It's possible that the image is under such an unnatural setting with good lighting, decent camera, well chosen clothes, Photoshopping that the quality makes it easier to see the picture as just an image than as a picture of a person. Or maybe, because of all these factors and we associate quality with expensive advertisements of a media driven culture that we don't see these images of women, but what they're trying to sell us, from shoes and corsets to sexual excitement.
Skanky is to me, more or less a slutty disposition, possibly a large margin of attention seeking in their behaviour, not to mention, the fact it quite possibly has something to with their choice of atire, their bearing, how they hold themselves, how they proposition someone for coupling, how frequent they partake of the carnal activities with different partners, how easy it is infact to partake of "skanky" women`s naked company etc etc. Also it is worth noting that a once of, or perhaps infrequent showing of skanky behaviour is not a justifiable way in which to pidgeonhole a women as being a slut in the entirety of her time. Sometimes it can simply be dismissed as a mere passing phase.
Now that I have digressed what I consider skanky, let it be said, that I actually respect a women that uses sex as a bargaining chip, something to get what she wants out of life. A smart slut/skank is a women to be respected, much like when you spot a sucessfull gold digger, you cannot help but admire her, thinking to yourself "Aye, she plays the game well". An ambitious skank is a women deserved of respect. Some women make a whole career out of presenting their assets so that men can desire them, these are sex bombs, they ignite a man`s wanton lust glands, they tease and tantalise for favour, or advantage. Some are known to make a great deal of money on their sex appeal and even have much influence. Some women even put hell to leather and fuck their way to the top, choosing in whom they fornicate with in order to rise and be elevated in their chosen career paths. Some of these women go on to inherit great sums of money through various means. In some cases, women become celebrated and even household names for the sheer deliberation and intensity of the presentation of their sex appeal. These are the "Go-getters" in the sisterhood. Sex is a weapon for some, a women who is desired, already has a major advantage over those whom are not and will often do better in life, exept in certain circuimstances.
On the other hand, sluts that dont infact get any benefits from their slutty disposition and demeaner, their revealing clothing choices, flaunting of raw sex appeal, the promise of a biological imperative, via coupling. The slutty, skanky, easy women who lack ambition and finesse....those that simply imply that they are easy-to-bed skanks, or sluts without vision, they cannot play the game...and are in my opinion, not deserved of respect.
But even the slutty, skanky women who lack ambition, style and lofty career goals, those who fail to use their sex appeal to gather what they desire with materialism...they are perhaps still of use to society at large, for what man high on life, alchohol, testosterone and a need to satisfy his thirst for all things carnal in nature, can forsake the convienent application of a skank`s need to seek attention, often in the arms...and later bed, of a stranger ? What I mean to say is, even the non sucessfull, unambitious, untalented skanks have their place. When a man needs a quick fix, a slut is a good woman to find. Let us not be hypocrites, I`m sure every man has at least once in his life been very fortuitous to chance upon the attention of a slutty lass. When in need, never forsake a skank, advantageous seeking can provide a man with the differing factor in a good night...or a disapointing, lonely one.

In my mind a person is down right "skanky" if they:
- Have bad hygiene
- Have any STD's
- Present themselves poorly
- Frequent sexual partners
- Live in the slums
- Dress in low grade, cheap, ugly clothing
- Reveal more flesh than is necissary*
* This one is subject to great debate. Not all people who reveal "to much" flesh are skanks.
If I had an STD then your dam right and by all means I'd deserve it! Luckily I don't have to worry about that. Besides my post clearly states how I see it in my mind, your welcome to your own beliefs and customs.
