Screamo is a genre of music which predominantly evolved from hardcore punk, among other genres, in the early 1990s. The term "screamo" was initially applied to a more aggressive offshoot of emo that developed in San Diego in 1991, which used short, chaotically executed songs which grafted "spastic intensity to willfully experimental dissonance and dynamics," often with a political message.

But seriously though, my scope of screamo is pretty limited. I'm a huge hardcore and powerviolence fan, and I do dig some emo bands, but the thing about most screamo groups I've come across that really puts me off are the high-pitched, whiny vocals. I can tolerate City of Caterpillar and pg.99 in small doses, but shit like Antioch Arrow and Heroin and Circle Takes the Square just annoy the living shit out of me.
So, in the interest of being open minded, recommend me good screamo bands so I can get a better taste for this genre.
