I know there's no exact way to sound like someone. Though every now and then, we do sound similar or have experiences were we may sound like another singer
I'm not sure if I sound like anyone when I sing. I know there are some singers I can match better then others. Not just because of the type of songs, but mostly because of my natural register/pitch of voice.
without trying too hard I can do Avril Lavigne... which is kind of fail...but whatever.
i can also do some Mary Zimmer from Luna Mortis (when I know the words)
i strive to one day be as strong as Tarja, but that would take a few more years of practice. ^.^ maybe someday!
When I am singing in a high tenor or with a falsetto, my mates say I remind them of Freddie Mercury [LOL yeah I wish] or Bono. [lame.. x.x]
When I do more gritty vocals I get either Nic Cester or Chris Cornell dependent upon the range I sing in.
When I sing in baritone, I often get Billy Idol.
To me, that makes absolutely no sense to me though. o.o

George corpsegrinder for my american idol tryout, a raspy higher pitch using the top of my vocal chords that sounds more hardcore than anything, working toward max cavelera for years but still no luck
I don't think I sound like anyone in particular. I've never really compared myself to someone, but I've been told that I resemble Amanda Palmer in a different light. Which, I probably have done subconsciously seeing as she's a huge inspiration to me.

god is my co-pilot,
but i'm no believer.
And about sounding like Shagrath, I've been told that my blackmetal-voice sounds better/cooler than Shagrath's.
I myself do not quite concur.
(The girls in question telling me this were just trying to get in my pants. ;P )

A lot of random strangers have told me that I sounded like Kimya Dawson, or people will come up to me after a gig and say "I take it you're a juno fan' I've not seen the film now and I didnt even know who Kimya was so had to go look her up on youtube and yep people are right. I do sound like her and her and my songs are along the same wavelenth. There was me thinking I was original. Guess not
My favorite singers are Thom Yorke from Radiohead, Micheal Stipe of R.E.M, and Gibby Haines from the Butthole Surfers (not because he is a talented singer necessarily but he's weird :P)
I sang one time zombie but i can't change from stomach breathing into headbreathing its so difficult
my video in youtube is a bit older and my voice changed a bit
Bit random but I do a fairly good impression of Tarja Turunen from her Nightwish days... been told several times it's almost exact
I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.

I come damn close to David Gold from Woods of Ypres. Almost identical except for the clean vocals.
There is suffering in life, and there are defeats. No-one can avoid them; But it is better to lose some of the battles in the struggle for your dreams than to be defeated without ever knowing what you're fighting for.
