Welcome to the VF.com Message Board. If you are new here THEN WATCH THIS FIRST! or have any questions, please look over the various Q&A's listed below. We have tried to answer the most common questions, but after all... We are all human, so there is bound to be something in here that was not covered. Do not feel afraid to ask someone. We usually do not bite.
Rules apply to everyone!! Mods and admins do NOT need to explain or justify their decisions such as locking or deleting threads or individual posts.
NO PROMOTION OF PIRATED / ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADED MUSIC OR SHARING OF PIRATED MUSIC. Violators of this policy will have their posts deleted and may be banned from the messageboard without further warning as per Jet's statement of April 4, 2007.
Do not make negative or malicious threads. This includes snide joke threads, threads about how faggy Trivium is, how lame the new album from a new band is, ect.
Threads should be related to music. Do not make bitching threads.
Do not make a thread asking if anyone else likes a band. Because the band obviously does not put out albums just for you. Rephrase your question for all I care. Talk about albums, songs, concert preformences or something else. Threads should contain more than "I love this band. discuss." put some form of content. No one's saying you have to write an essay, though.
Do not hijack threads for general discussion. There is a music forum social stickied at the top of this page. That, or take it to inbox or an instant messaging program. There is such thing as private chat.
This place is meant to be fun for EVERYONE and flaming someone is obviously not fun for them. A bit of flaming is okay, but let them prove they deserve it first by being uneducated about a band/genre/etc. Learn where to draw the line. And if they fight back, then.. um... don't reply, maybe? Incase you weren't aware, flaming is harrassment. Harrassment is against the site rules. And as some of you already know, they DO suspend for harrassment. If that is ruining your fun or whatever, maybe you need to get out more.
Don't ask if anyone is going to a show. Chances are, no one here lives near you. If you want to find out, spend five dollars american and buy a premium membership for a month. then search for people in your area and ask them. Tours are acceptable. Like Warped Tour and Ozzfest and the like. Those go around a bit.
Try to make your posts and threads interesting! If you don't like a band, instead of just saying "they suck" recommend better bands, or explain why you believe that band sucks. Same goes for those who post about how great a band is, but doesn't explain why. You could possibly recommend songs or albums for downloads.
Don't post any stupid "which band is better" polls! Those get locked on sight, so don't even bother making one. Polls go in the Polls forum, not here.
There's a search engine located at the bottom of the forum. Type in a band/artist and see if the thread already exists. If it does.. use it. Do NOT make another thread about the band/artist or it'll be locked/deleted.
This forum is NOT an elitist forum. I don't care if you are kvlt, scene, or whatever, you DO NOT OWN OR RUN this forum. PERIOD! It's really annoying to see people in this forum who think they are superior. Grow up, get a life and get over it, you are NO BETTER than anyone else here. No matter who you are, if you are warned continuously and still break rules, we will not hesitate to have you banned from the forum.
If you see a thread that needs to be locked, INBOX ONE OF THE MODS, please. You may say "someone lock this thread, please." but um... sorry, stupidthreadpostkenisis wasn't in the job requirements. and if you were to say "lock this" and there were grounds to lock it, do you think any of the mods are daft enough to look at it and not lock it? uhh. nope.
Mods and admins do NOT need to explain or justify their decisions such as locking or deleting threads or individual posts.
This is not a democracy. A mod doesn't need to run it by you when they lock a thread, change something, edit a post, assign a title or delete a thread, so shut up about it.
Things to do to prevent your thread being locked/deleted
If you make a thread about a band/artist with "anyone heard of them?" "anyone else like?" "MY FAVE SONG IS HELENA WHATS URS" in the original post we will lock/delete it.
1: Post links i.e wikipedia, myspace, or whatever inside of your thread so others can gain more information about the band you're talking about. [Please note: YouTube embedding is no longer supported in the OP, but it wouldn't hurt to throw a video in a post after you've made the thread.]
Don't know how to make a link? Then look in this HTML help thread
2: Post a little info in case someone doesn't want to click your link that you spent 13 minutes working out how to do.
3: Post a pic of the band/artist maybe.
4: Talk about why you like them.
5: Oh and use the search bar (located at the bottom of the forums) to see if there is a thread already about them.
*Simply type in the band name and check*
If there is, then don't make another or it'll be locked/deleted.
6: Make sure the bands you post belong in this forum, if they don't belong here, then they will be moved to the correct forums.
